Book Daring to Trust

Download or read book Daring to Trust written by David Richo and published by Shambhala Publications. This book was released on 2011-07-26 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The best-selling author of How to Be an Adult in Relationships explains how to build trust—the essential ingredient in successful relationships—in spite of fear or past betrayals Most relationship problems are essentially trust issues, explains psychotherapist David Richo. Whether it’s fear of commitment, insecurity, jealousy, or a tendency to be controlling, the real obstacle is a fundamental lack of trust—both in ourselves and in our partner. Daring to Trust explores the importance of trust throughout our emotional lives: how it develops in childhood and how it becomes an essential ingredient in healthy adult relationships. It offers key insights and practical exercises for exploring and addressing our trust issues in relationships. Topics include: • How we learn early in life to trust others (or not to trust them) • Why we fear trusting • Developing greater trust in ourselves as the basis for trusting others • How to know if someone is trustworthy • Naïve trust vs. healthy, adult trust • What to do when trust is broken Ultimately, Richo explains, we must develop trust in four directions: toward ourselves, toward others, toward life as it is, and toward a higher power or spiritual path. These four types of trust are not only the basis of healthy relationships, they are also the foundation of emotional well-being and freedom from fear.

Download or read book Love written by I. Dilman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-13 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is concerned with questions about love: questions about its many forms, strands and aspects, and the relation in which they stand to each other. It is concerned with the way different aspects of sexual love conflict with each other, with the way self-regard and self-interest can corrupt love, and with spiritual love and its difficulties. It seeks the views of some writers who have suggested some distinctive solutions to the existential problems that love poses in the face of its obstacles: Plato, Proust, Sartre, Freud, D.H. Lawrence, Erich Fromm, C.S. Lewis, Kierkegaard, Simone Weil and Kahlil Gibran.

Book Trust No Aunty

Download or read book Trust No Aunty written by Maria Qamar and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-08 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on her popular Instagram @Hatecopy and her experience in a South Asian immigrant family, artist Maria Qamar has created a humorous, illustrated “survival guide” to deal with overbearing “Aunties,” whether they’re family members, annoying neighbors, or just some random ladies throwing black magic your way. We’ve all experienced interference from our Aunties—they are at family parties and friendly get-togethers, finding ways to make your life difficult, trying to get you to marry their sons, and telling you to lose weight while simultaneously feeding you a second dinner—and it has stunted our social growth and embarrassed us in front of our friends and cool cousins for years. This tongue-in-cheek guide is full of advice designed to help you manage Aunty meddling and encourages you to pursue your passions—from someone who has been through it all. Qamar confesses to throwing sweatshirts over crop-tops to get out of the house without being questioned, hiding her boyfriend in a closet, and enduring overbearing parents endless pressuring her to become a doctor, lawyer, or engineer. Holding onto your cultural identity is tough. Always interfering Aunties make it even harder. But ultimately, Aunties keep our lives interesting. As an Aunty-survivor and a woman who has lived the cross-cultural experience, Qamar defied the advice of her aunties almost every step of the way, and she is here to remind you: Trust No Aunty.

Book excerpt: This book is about life and the experiences in life. Though no two lives are the same I believe that for the most part we share the same basic experiences. There are eight parts of this book. It starts with thought provoking and feel good poems and then progresses to the deeper and darker poems. Part four is about a lost youth which should shed some light on some of the other poems. Life is a full range of feelings and emotions. I hope this book expresses them all. The good, bad, and ugly.

Book Loving Justice Living Shakespeare

Download or read book Loving Justice Living Shakespeare written by Regina Mara Schwartz and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-11-17 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In thinking about Justice, we ignore Love to our peril. Loving Justice, Living Shakespeare asks why love is considered a 'soft' subject, fit for the arts and religion perhaps, but unfit for boardrooms, parliamentary and congressional debates, law schools and courtrooms, all of whom are engaged in the 'serious' discourse of justice, including questions of distribution, questions of contract, and questions of retribution. Love is separate, out of order in the decidedly rational public sphere of justice. But for all of this separation of love and justice, it turns out that in the biblical tradition, no such distinction is even imaginable. The biblical law is summed up as loving the neighbour—this is further elaborated as loving the stranger, loving the widow, the orphan, and the poor—those who lack a protecting community. Analysis of these foundational 'love commands' shows that in them, love means care, that is, apprehending and responding to the needs of others. This is both love and justice. Prevailing political concepts of justice are incomplete for they are premised on a belief in scarcity: limited supply (of goods, opportunities, even forgiveness) suggests they must be meted out in fair measure. To the contrary, with love, the good sought is not in scarce supply. Its distribution is not a problem for the more of it you give, the more it is replenished. So with love, the emphasis is not on how to apportion fairly—how much love do I give each of my children!—but how to understand and respond to need. This understanding of justice as including mutual care has a rich history in religious thought as constituting social glue. The revival of the Bible during the Reformation and the ubiquitous allusions to neighbor love in the Book of Common Prayer made it ever-present in Renaissance discourse, and Shakespeare brought this ethos to audiences in many of his plays. Part of the reason Shakespeare endures is that this ethic resonates for audiences today: we abhor the evil of Iago, the greed of Macbeth, the narcissism of Lear, and to even begin to understand how the sacrifices of Romeo and Juliet could heal ancient social conflict, we must assent to the power of love to create justice.

Book Brezhnev

    Book Details:
  • Author : Susanne Schattenberg

  • ISBN : 0755642112

Download or read book Brezhnev written by Susanne Schattenberg and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-11-04 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Schattenberg has done a service in rescuing the Brezhnev period from obscurity." The Morning Star "[Offers an] unparalleled examination of the Brezhnev papers." Literary Review Leonid Brezhnev was leader of the Soviet Union for eighteen years, a term of leadership second only in length to that of Stalin. He presided over the Brezhnev Doctrine, which accelerated the Cold War, and led the Soviet Union through catastrophic foreign policy decisions such as the invasion of Afghanistan. To many in the West, he is responsible for the stagnation (and to some even collapse) of the Soviet Union. But much of this history has been based on the only two English-language biographies (both published before Brezhnev's death and without access to archival sources) and Brezhnev's own astonishingly untrue memoirs – written for propaganda purposes. Newly translated from German, Schattenberg's magisterial book systematically dismantles the stereotypical and one-dimensional view of Brezhnev as the stagnating Stalinist by drawing on a wealth of archival research and documents not previously studied in English. The Brezhnev that emerges is a complex one, from his early apolitical years, when he dreamed of becoming an actor, through his swift and surprising rise through the Party ranks. From his hitherto misunderstood role in Khrushchev's ousting and appointment as his successor, to his somewhat pro-Western foreign policy aims, deft consolidation and management of power, and ultimate descent into addiction and untimely death. For Schattenberg, this is the story of a flawed and ineffectual idealist - for the West, this biography makes a convincing case that Brezhnev should be reappraised as one of the most interesting and important political figures of the twentieth century.

Book The Lord Christ Jesus Was a Vegan

Download or read book The Lord Christ Jesus Was a Vegan written by Saba and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2005-12-16 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book raises many interrelated important issues in life and tries to clarify the spiritual facts and to tie the loose ends, according to the wisdom of Divine Love. The good news about Lord Christ Jesus being a vegan (a strict vegetarian), for Biblical reasons is expounded in this book so all nations can immediately convert to the Christian vegan religion of heaven; for the sake of God's Justice that must be served on earth. The book indeed is a must read for all people because the entire creation including mankind has only one Savior to understand, obey, learn from and follow in order to do God's will, to be justified of sins and to see the Kingdom of God in righteousness. Since science also belongs to Christianity and this true faith is about universal redemption, the pages of this book discuss in detail the interests, the well-beings and the freedom of all creatures. The main points discussed in here, from the Christian vegan perspectives are: why mankind should live to honor God, about the universally abiding laws given us by the supreme Creator, the Christian justice, the importance of Church unity, nutrition, balanced diet and related issues. The pages loudly echo the spirituality of animals and the normal feelings of all that live; encouraging mankind to choose environmentally friendly products and services instead of animal products or animal services. Every violent sport and entertainment that involves animals is denounced together with the modern day idolatry and animal slavery; urging God fearing people to actively love and defend all animals and the universe in the Holy Name of Christ Jesus now and always. The goal of the book is to help the entire human race grasp the urgency of the animal right issue so all can repent together, start to pray unceasingly, watch and work in order to heal the damaged environments spiritually also work to restore world peace, order, equality among the earthly dwellers and lasting harmony. This book is indispensable for Bible scholars also for all God fearing people; it is animal friendly and can easily be used as a reference book or to instruct kids and adults in the non-violence principles of Christianity.
