Book Preventing the Heartaches

Download or read book Preventing the Heartaches written by Shirley Ward and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2013-08-16 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where do you go from here? -In a difficult situation with a person of the opposite sex? - Do the doctors say you and your husband will never be able to have a child of your own? - About to have your first baby? How will you raise your child, and what morals will you pass along to the next generation? -Is your child out of control? Everyone from their childhood years through their matured years has relationships with parents, siblings, peers, friends, spouses, employers, or co-workers. In her book, Shirley Ward has pulled together the main concepts from several Christian authors (as well as her own), and put them all together under one title to answer your relationship questions. You will want to keep "Preventing the Heartaches" to use when your relationships change. As your children become mature enough to date and begin living on their own, you will want to pass it on to them. Because all of life's questions are answered by the author of life (God), in His guide (the Bible), the answers to the issues discussed in "Preventing the Heartaches" are of a Christian nature. Even so, non-Christians are able to use the help offered in Mrs. Ward's book.

Book Topologies of Power

Download or read book Topologies of Power written by John Allen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-01-13 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Topologies of Power amounts to a radical departure in the way that power and space have been understood. It calls into question the very idea that power is simply extended across a given territory or network, and argues that power today has a new found ‘reach’. Topological shifts have subtly altered the reach of power, enabling governments, corporations and NGOs alike to register their presence through quieter, less brash forms of power than domination or overt control. In a world in which proximity and distance increasingly play across one another, topology offers an insight into how power remains continuous under transformation: the same but different in its ability to shape peoples’ lives. Drawing upon a range of political, economic and cultural illustrations, the book sets out a clear and accessible account of the topological workings of power in the contemporary moment. It will be invaluable for both students and academics in human geography, politics, sociology, and cultural studies.

Book The Medicine Wheel for Step Parents

Download or read book The Medicine Wheel for Step Parents written by Mary Jane Grange R.N. and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-02-14 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With The Medicine Wheel for Stepparents, I hope to give some understanding and relief to blended families. Stepfamilies have common threads of dysfunction. There are many issues that form these common threads. These issues occur between stepparent and stepchild and biological parent, biological child, and extended family in blended families. I have listed the issues and have offered affordable solutions that are within our grasp. These common threads reappear in every aspect of family life, including financial matters such as your childs Social Security checks, child-support checks, medical bills, and the parents will. These issues occur when the power structure changes in a home after a divorce or death in a family. Everyone is left in a gigantic power struggle, which retires parents prematurely. Stepparents and stepchildren feel that they must protect their territory, ego, and family with secrets, isolation, intimidation, manipulation, and stonewalling behavior. When stepfamilies are choking, parents, stepparents, and stepchildren do not have to be severely depressed, take multiple medications for depression and energy, get a divorce, or attempt suicide for relief. Biological parents and stepparents do not have to be retired prematurely. There are better ways to keep everyone functioning in blended families. My book will not take away all the opposition you experience in blended families. We learn by overcoming opposition, not creating opposition. This book helps you analyze and carry the opposition to your efforts for your blended family.

Book Of Blood and Sweat

Download or read book Of Blood and Sweat written by Clyde W. Ford and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2022-04-05 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Ford’s overlap of past and present, narrative and commentary is masterful, and makes this volume all the more valuable to those readers wise enough to allow the past to inform the future. Of Blood and Sweat is a myth-busting work of genius that will stand as the last word on this vital subject for a long time to come.”—Elizabeth Dowling Taylor, New York Times bestselling author of A Slave in the White House and The Original Black Elite In this, provocative, timely, and painstakingly researched book, the award-winning author of Think Black tells the story of how Black labor helped to create and sustain the wealth of the white one percent throughout American history. Clyde W. Ford uses the lives of individual Black men and women as a lens to explore the role they have played in creating American institutions of power and wealth—in agriculture, politics, jurisprudence, law enforcement, culture, medicine, financial services, and many other fields—while not being allowed to fully participate or share in the rewards. Today, activists have taken the struggle for racial equity and justice to the streets. Of Blood and Sweat goes back through time to excavate the roots of this struggle, from pre-colonial Africa through post-Civil War America. As Ford reveals, in tracing the history of almost any major American institution of power and wealth you’ll find it was created by Black Americans, or created to control them. Painstakingly researched and documented, Of Blood and Sweat is a compelling look at the past that holds broad implications for present-day calls for racial equity, racial justice, and the abolishment of systemic racism, and offers invaluable insight into our understanding of Black history and the story of America.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second novel of the acclaimed Sun Sword series returns to a war-torn world of noble houses divided and demon lords unleashed... The King’s Challenge—it was a proving ground for warriors in the Essalieyan Empire, the hallowed contest that made legends of men. And for Valedan, last survivor of the ruling family of the Dominion, it was a declaration of his right to claim the throne stolen from the Leonne clan by treachery and assassination. Failure to earn the title of King’s Champion would not deprive Valedan of either his Dominion or Essalieyan allies, but winning would announce to the world that he was no callow boy, no mere pawn in the games of power. And the games of power were indeed being played—not only in the Empire and Dominion, but in the far more dangerous realm of the Lord of Night. As the time of the Challenge neared, Valedan and all those who guarded him would be hard-pressed to survive long enough for him to enter the competition. For the demon kin had been set to hunt him down and destroy him. They had failed before though many innocents had paid for the price. They must not fail again, for slaying Valedan was but the opening gambit in a war that would free the Lord of Night to reign over all the mortal world....

Book No Sweat

  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2004-02
  • ISBN : 9781410766212
  • Pages : 364 pages

Download or read book No Sweat written by Frank Farrell and published by . This book was released on 2004-02 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each year, over one million mothers and fathers divorce. Approximately one million children are involved. Before and during separation and after the divorce, many parents expose their children to massive doses of anger and conflict. This causes children great pain. In 1981, the California State Legislature had the foresight and wisdom to enact a bill that requires mediation prior to trial for all parents who are litigating child custody and/or visitation matters. This intervention minimizes the hurt to children and families going through a divorce by giving parents a chance to settle their differences with the help of a third neutral party. Child Custody Mediation describes the mediation process in action and detail, from the moment of intake and through the preliminary conference, parental interviews, child(ren)’s interviews, family conference, concluding parental conference, negotiating an agreement and wrap-up conference. Five vivid case studies highlight the amazing power and transformation possible during the mediation process even in extremely difficult cases. The late Dr. Carl Whitaker, Professor of Psychiatry, University of Wisconsin, stated in his foreword, “Florence Bienenfeld has done the world of divorce court proceedings an unusual favor. Her book is both good reading and an aid to wise decision-making. Dr. Bienenfeld proves herself a capable therapist and excellent writer, and a wise human being.”

Book Brown Bodies White Babies

Download or read book Brown Bodies White Babies written by Laura Harrison and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2016-09-20 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brown Bodies, White Babies focuses on the practice of cross-racial gestational surrogacy, in which a woman - through in-vitro fertilization using the sperm and egg of intended parents or donors - carries a pregnancy for intended parents of a different race. Focusing on the racial differences between parents and surrogates, this book is interested in how reproductive technologies intersect with race, particularly when brown bodies produce white babies. While the potential of reproductive technologies is far from pre-determined, the ways in which these technologies are currently deployed often serve the interests of dominant groups, through the creation of white, middle-class, heteronormative families. Laura Harrison, providing an important understanding of the work of women of color as surrogates, connects this labor to the history of racialized reproduction in the United States. Cross-racial surrogacy is one end of a continuum in which dominant groups rely on the reproductive potential of nonwhite women, whose own reproductive desires have been historically thwarted and even demonized. Brown Bodies, White Babies provides am interdisciplinary analysis that includes legal cases of contested surrogacy, historical examples of surrogacy as a form of racialized reproductive labor, the role of genetics in the assisted reproduction industry, and the recent turn toward reproductive tourism. Joining the ongoing feminist debates surrounding reproduction, motherhood, race, and the body, Brown Bodies, White Babies ultimately critiques the new potentials for parenthood that put the very contours of kinship into question.
