Book excerpt: Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this multi-million-copy New York Times bestseller is the definitive manual for anyone interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control – from the author of The Laws of Human Nature. In the book that People magazine proclaimed “beguiling” and “fascinating,” Robert Greene and Joost Elffers have distilled three thousand years of the history of power into 48 essential laws by drawing from the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, and Carl Von Clausewitz and also from the lives of figures ranging from Henry Kissinger to P.T. Barnum. Some laws teach the need for prudence (“Law 1: Never Outshine the Master”), others teach the value of confidence (“Law 28: Enter Action with Boldness”), and many recommend absolute self-preservation (“Law 15: Crush Your Enemy Totally”). Every law, though, has one thing in common: an interest in total domination. In a bold and arresting two-color package, The 48 Laws of Power is ideal whether your aim is conquest, self-defense, or simply to understand the rules of the game.

Download or read book No One Can Escape the 4 Laws written by Eloy Colombo and published by . This book was released on 2017-07-10 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I believe you have already asked yourself why some people manage to climb their way out of poverty into wealth, while so many others only know poverty throughout their lives. How is it possible that entire nations manage to get rich, while others remain in destitution? What do you need to know and do in order to become rich? Take away the wealth of someone else who has it? But what about that someone; how did they acquire their wealth?I have two very good news for you:* These questions have been asked by many people before you* And they all have been answered over 150 years ago!I have asked myself these same questions for a long time. And I have always searched for these answers. I always had in mind that there should be rules and coherence in the economical and financial phenomena which are part of our lives. For example, when you look at the S&P500, what makes it reach a limit, either at its highest or lowest? Would it be possible to manipulate stock prices? When it comes to work, why doesn't the government raise everyone's wages so that all people become rich? See what has been discovered about the way economy works:* The Laws of Finance have already been known for over 2000 years.* The Laws of Accounting have been known since the year 1500.* The Laws of Economics are known since 1860.The Laws of Economics were the last ones to be discovered because it was actually pretty hard to understand them! Many famous names tried to discover these Laws, some of the most prominent being:* Adam Smith* John Stuart Mill* Jean-Baptiste Say* Carl Menger* Hermann-Henri Gossen* Willian Stanley JevonsBut the genius who actually managed to understand and describe the Laws of Economics wasLon WalrasObviously, he found inspiration in all the knowledge produced by the scholars searching for the Laws of Economics who came before him. But he was the one who finally made it.If you're already familiar with Walras' work, I must warn you before we proceed. Don't confuse the Laws of Economics I'll show you in the next pages with the so-called Walras' Laws. What I call Laws of Economics, Walras named as fundamental principles of economics, which, the way I see it, was a mistake he has made. I believe Walras himself didn't realize the grandiosity of his discovery!Walras, as most economists of his time, was concerned with reaching an economic policy capable of leading a nation to prosperity - he wasn't worried about teaching people the path to prosperity. However, if we sit and wait for a healthy economic policy in order to be able to prosper in life, we'll be waiting until we die. And, despite economic policies being usually disastrous, there are countless examples of successful people. What is the "recipe" for wealth, after all? In order to answer that, I have researched Walras' extensive body of work, as well as finances and history, to find the answers we all look for.The results are so surprising I couldn't help but share with everyone. I have written this book because I believe that all people should be aware of how the Laws of Economics have the power to guide us towards prosperity by teaching us what to generate maximum wealth. In this book, I demonstrate that the economy and the financial market have laws, as well as the laws of physics, chemistry and mathematics. The economy and the financial market, which seem chaotic, speculative and manipulated, are actually ruled by inescapable laws, such as the law of gravity.I hope this book brings wealth your way.Eloy Rodrigo Colombo, 2017.

Book Individual Criminal Responsibility in International Law

Download or read book Individual Criminal Responsibility in International Law written by Elies van Sliedregt and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2012-03-01 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the concept of individual criminal responsibility for serious violations of international law, i.e. aggression, genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. Such crimes are rarely committed by single individuals. Rather, international crimes generally connote a plurality of offenders, particularly in the execution of the crimes, which are often orchestrated and masterminded by individuals behind the scene of the crimes who can be termed 'intellectual perpetrators'. For a determination of individual guilt and responsibility, a fair assessment of the mutual relationships between those persons is indispensable. By setting out how to understand and apply concepts such as joint criminal enterprise, superior responsibility, duress, and the defence of superior orders, this work provides a framework for that assessment. It does so by bringing to light the roots of these concepts, which lie not merely in earlier phases of development of international criminal law but also in domestic law and legal doctrine. The book also critically reflects on how criminal responsibility has been developed in the case law of international criminal tribunals and courts. It thus illuminates and analyses the rules on individual responsibility in international law.

Book Transforming the Hong Kong Legal Machine

Download or read book Transforming the Hong Kong Legal Machine written by Man-Chung Chiu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-06 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the law in relation to how it has responded to sexual and gender issues in the context of Hong Kong, and addresses the implications of those responses for the global context. It aims to develop a localized theory of justice which enables the analysis of multiple socio-legal issues arising in Hong Kong, a predominantly Han-Chinese society in Greater China, while also offering formulations for corresponding solutions. Unlike other books on Hong Kong jurisprudence and socio-legal studies, this book not only compares and contrasts different theories of justice, but also attempts to generate a philosophical perspective which can synchronize and re-organize a range of theoretical components via the lens of localization. The author investigates theories of justice developed, respectively, by Rawls, Deleuze, Lacan, Žižek and from the perspective of Mahāyāna Buddhism, as well as (Orthodox) Han-Chinese Confucianism and Daoism. The book applies these theoretical perspectives in analyzing different socio-legal issues in post-97 Hong Kong, including transgender rights to marriage, domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse and race. The book concludes by proposing singular possible strategies, which include Degenderization, Desexualization, De-ageing, by which justice(s) can hopefully be re-manufactured and challenged. This book is relevant to researchers and students of law, philosophy, sociology, gender studies and cultural studies.
