If a person begins to produce less urine or in the urine, the concentration of calcium, oxalate, cystine and uric acid increases crystals begin to form. They will linger in the kidneys and, gradually increasing in size, form stones.Where do these stones come from? There are many conditions that increase the risk of developing urolithiasis, from frequent urinary tract infections and obesity to gout and various diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Also at risk are people who drink little fluid, and those who have already experienced urolithiasis, the likelihood of relapse is quite high. Download or read book Treatment of Urolithiasis written by M. Akimoto and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Urolithiasis is not only one of the most frequently encountered diseases at uro logical clinics; it is also the disorder whose treatment has shown the most rapid progress in the past decade. In that period, medicine has experienced a real revolution, characterized by minimally invasive treatments, improvement of the quality of life, and cost-effectiveness in treatment outcomes. In urology, the revolution started with the development of endoscopic retrograde treatment of urolithiasis in the upper urinary tract, which led to development of the percuta neous antegrade maneuver in the latter half of the 1970s. The most remarkable event occurred in 1982, when clinical use of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy was introduced by the Munich group, represented by Dr. Christian Chaussy, at the 18th Congress of the International Society of Urology in San Francisco. With the advent of these new strategies, open surgery for urolithiasis has all but dis appeared. Today, with the availability of new technology and equipment, guide lines for the treatment of urolithiasis have changed in all developed countries. It is quite timely that the Meeting of International Consultation on Urolithiasis will be held in Paris in June 2001 to establish international guidelines for urolithiasis. Looking through this textbook for urolithiasis, I was greatly impressed to learn that we have already drawn up some guidelines. The book includes all the updated advances of urolithiasis presented by the most prominent and experi enced urologists from all around the world.

Book Kidney Stone Guide with Treatment and Prevention Tips

Download or read book Kidney Stone Guide with Treatment and Prevention Tips written by Kathy Thompson and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-01-16 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you have ever suffered from the pain of kidney stones and you want more information about exactly what is causing it ... and more importantly, how to get rid of them and help prevent it from happening again... ...or even just what your different treatment options are... ...then this book was written just for you. Here's the story: Totally and unexpectedly, I started getting horrible pains in my stomach. You know the feeling...the burning, the involuntary bending over. It's ten times worse than any stomach ache. The pain gets so bad you know that you got some serious issues going on... I tried aspirin, lying down, and cold ice packs. But Nothing Seemed To Help It got so bad I had to see a doctor. He told me I had kidney stones and they were still small and could be treated with prescription drugs. But I'm weary of prescription medications side effects and decided to hold off before I read more about the different medications. As it turns out, I found out that there were a lot of other options I could try first before using the prescription meds... most of them work to treat the symptoms (not the actual cause of your kidney stones) Plus, there can be side effects. All I am saying is... How I became a kidney stone expert Ok, I'm not really an expert-but I've done WAY more research on kidney stones than the average person. I started my research on the internet...And I spent a lot of time in the library looking through health books, magazines and articles... Not only did I discover a ton of information about how the body works and what causes kidney stones I also found out about all the different options to treat or prevent kidney stones. After pouring over hundreds of articles... reading tons of web sites... and flipping through a truck load of books I finally discovered a natural remedy that worked for me! Relief with this natural remedy was safe and extremely easy, and it's so SIMPLE that most people completely overlook it. After just a few weeks I was starting to feel relief... a few more and there was no pain at all... and in just months I visited my doctor again to hear the kidney stones had completely dissolved. After everything was better again, I realized something else. I had learned a LOT of information that could help other people who were suffering like me. So I compiled all my research and created the straight-to-the-point, simple guide I wish I could have found when I was looking for a solution to my kidney stone problems.

Book The Role of Protein and Amino Acids in Sustaining and Enhancing Performance

Download or read book The Role of Protein and Amino Acids in Sustaining and Enhancing Performance written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1999-09-15 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a commonly held belief that athletes, particularly body builders, have greater requirements for dietary protein than sedentary individuals. However, the evidence in support of this contention is controversial. This book is the latest in a series of publications designed to inform both civilian and military scientists and personnel about issues related to nutrition and military service. Among the many other stressors they experience, soldiers face unique nutritional demands during combat. Of particular concern is the role that dietary protein might play in controlling muscle mass and strength, response to injury and infection, and cognitive performance. The first part of the book contains the committee's summary of the workshop, responses to the Army's questions, conclusions, and recommendations. The remainder of the book contains papers contributed by speakers at the workshop on such topics as, the effects of aging and hormones on regulation of muscle mass and function, alterations in protein metabolism due to the stress of injury or infection, the role of individual amino acids, the components of proteins, as neurotransmitters, hormones, and modulators of various physiological processes, and the efficacy and safety considerations associated with dietary supplements aimed at enhancing performance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kidney stones mostly consist of a compound known as calcium oxalate. Kidney stones arise due to the accumulation of soluble minerals salts on the inner wall of the kidneys. These mineral deposits grow to big size like a golf ball and maintain a crystalline structure. Sometimes these kidney stones are small and may be passed out through the urinary tract unnoticed. However, they may also be accompanied by extreme pain while exiting. Yes, the pain can be that excruciating that most would rather they have an operation than be subjected to such harrowing experience. Nevertheless, the kidney stones that remain in the body unattended to may cause health conditions such as severe pain and ureter blockage that blocks the path used by urine in leaving the body. In fact, such Kidney stones have also been found to have a significant influence in the development of chronic kidney diseases. Anyway, below are the causes of kidney stones. Lack of sufficient water in the body is the most prominent cause of kidney stones. Research has shown that people who drink water less than the recommended amount mostly suffer from kidney stones. When there is no adequate water for dilution of the uric acid, the level of pH in the kidneys decreases hence becoming more acidic. This acidic environment offers a suitable environment for the formation of kidney stones. Some health conditions have a significant influence in the development of kidney stones. These health conditions include urinary tract infections, hyperparathyroidism, renal tubular acidosis, Crown's disease and Dents disease. Medical analysts have also recently said that water fluoridation might be responsible for some situations of kidney stones. However, they are yet to prove this. Now, for more on the "ins" and "outs" of how to avoid this painful experience... (well, that is if you know what I mean) get this book today. Trust me, you will be glad you did.

Book The Low Oxalate Anti Inflammatory Cookbook

Download or read book The Low Oxalate Anti Inflammatory Cookbook written by Cindy Bokma and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2018-11-27 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this cookbook, food blogger Cindy Bokma takes familiar recipes and re-creates them for anyone dealing with a limited diet that can become extremely overwhelming. Health is like a line of dominos and once one falls, others soon follow. Most people have more than one issue that can be addressed by diet. But when gluten-free options lead you to almond flour and milk, for example, and almonds are rich in oxalates, you may then be put in the path of an illness or issue related to high oxalates. While much is known about gluten-free, low-carb, soy-free, nut-free, and low-sugar diets, this collection highlights oxalates, a naturally occurring but potentially inflammatory substance found in a wide variety of healthy plant foods, such as almonds, rhubarb, spinach, and more. These are, unfortunately, prominent in popular diets such as paleo and ketogenic. With Bokma’s guidance, you’ll learn how oxalates affect your body, in which foods they may be found, and how to adjust your diet so they don’t cause you inflammation or other issues. Recipes such as Chicken with Garlic and Tomato, Cheeseburger Burritos, and Easy Bake Apples are simple, familiar, and stress-free and will allow you to eat your favorite foods without worry.
