Book excerpt: Investigation Discovery (ID) TV aired an episode loosely adapted as a partially fictionalized version of this book. Now read the REAL story. "BLOOD RELATIVES" proves that truth is stranger than fiction. This is a "who done it" with twists and turns and multiple murders you won't see coming. The characters and events are REAL - including "the mother who legalized abortion in America," and her children who are caught up in complex family relationships resulting from adoption, abortion, incest, greed, corruption and murders. Just as one may hand down a family recipe, this story, which takes the reader from the 1960s to the present, the story provides an intriguing mix of Southern pride and prejudice, mystery, motives and murders. Turn up the heat, stir in the action, add a pinch of reasonable doubt, allow to simmer, and feed your craving for a bloody tale.

Book The Essential Guide to Family Medical Leave

Download or read book The Essential Guide to Family Medical Leave written by Lisa Guerin and published by Nolo. This book was released on 2024 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What employers must know about FMLA leave for both on-site and remote workers The federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) helps workers balance the demands of work, family, and personal care. But for employers, knowing how to apply this law fairly and legally can be difficult--especially when it comes to tracking intermittent leave, completing the proper paperwork, and determining eligibility for different types of leave. What's more, related and sometimes overlapping workers' compensation statutes and state leave laws add complexity, such that any misstep can create frustration for both managers and employees. This book provides answers--in plain English--to every employer's tough questions about the FMLA. It provides detailed information, sample forms, and checklists and other tools to help company managers and human resources personnel figure out: * who is eligible for leave * what types of leave are covered * how much leave individual employees may take, and * how to comply with notice and other paperwork requirements. This indispensable guide, from experienced employment law attorneys, has already helped thousands of companies learn how to respect employees' rights while simultaneously protecting their business interests. The 7th edition includes changes to state family and medical leave laws and new material on handling leave requests by remote workers.

Book excerpt: From the pen of one of Hong Kong's leading writers, Xi Xi (1938 - ), Flying Carpet mirrors the past and present of Fertillia, an island city situated on the south-eastern coast of the huge country of Dragonland. Fertillia is of course Hong Kong, and the novel is part history and part imagination, a rich tapestry of the local material culture and a vivid portrayal of sensitive Chinese minds, a saga of the Fa family who has lived through Fertillia's development from a small village to a cosmopolitan metropolis. On top of the personal drama involving three generations of people, the author casts her narrative net over many walks of life in the city and suggests the uniqueness of Fertillia's existence within a cosmic order of rare elegance and harmony.

Book The Elements of Advanced Mathematics

Download or read book The Elements of Advanced Mathematics written by Steven G. Krantz and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-06-20 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has enjoyed considerable use and appreciation during its first four editions. With hundreds of students having learned out of early editions, the author continues to find ways to modernize and maintain a unique presentation. What sets the book apart is the excellent writing style, exposition, and unique and thorough sets of exercises. This edition offers a more instructive preface to assist instructors on developing the course they prefer. The prerequisites are more explicit and provide a roadmap for the course. Sample syllabi are included. As would be expected in a fifth edition, the overall content and structure of the book are sound. This new edition offers a more organized treatment of axiomatics. Throughout the book, there is a more careful and detailed treatment of the axioms of set theory. The rules of inference are more carefully elucidated. Additional new features include: An emphasis on the art of proof. Enhanced number theory chapter presents some easily accessible but still-unsolved problems. These include the Goldbach conjecture, the twin prime conjecture, and so forth. The discussion of equivalence relations is revised to present reflexivity, symmetry, and transitivity before we define equivalence relations. The discussion of the RSA cryptosystem in Chapter 8 is expanded. The author introduces groups much earlier. Coverage of group theory, formerly in Chapter 11, has been moved up; this is an incisive example of an axiomatic theory. Recognizing new ideas, the author has enhanced the overall presentation to create a fifth edition of this classic and widely-used textbook.
