Book The Hanle Effect and Level Crossing Spectroscopy

Download or read book The Hanle Effect and Level Crossing Spectroscopy written by Giovanni Moruzzi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am most pleased and, in a way, I feel honored to write the Foreword for the book The Hanle Effect and Level-Crossing Spectroscopy, which covers such a very wide range of applications not only in the initial areas of atomic and molecular physics, but also in solid state physics, solar physics, laser physics, and gravitational metrology. To link these fields together in a coherent way has been the merit of the editors of the book, who attracted most distinguished authors for writing the chapters. In retrospect to Hanle's discovery of quantum mechanical coherence between two quantum states about 65 years ago, this book demonstrates the enormous impact and central importance the effect has had, and most vividly still has, on modern physics. On the other hand, the concept of quantum mechanical coherence, which is an outgrowth of the linear super position principle of quantum states, has been evident through a consider able number of experimental methods beyond the original Hanle effect; some of these methods were only recently discovered or applied and they have indeed revolutionized research fields such as atomic collision physics.

Book Photochemistry

    Book Details:
  • Author : D. Bryce-Smith
  • Publisher : Royal Society of Chemistry
  • Release : 1982
  • ISBN : 0851861059
  • Pages : 612 pages

Download or read book Photochemistry written by D. Bryce-Smith and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 1982 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The breadth of scientific and technological interests in the general topic of photochemistry is truly enormous and includes, for example, such diverse areas as microelectronics, atmospheric chemistry, organic synthesis, non-conventional photoimaging, photosynthesis, solar energy conversion, polymer technologies, and spectroscopy. This Specialist Periodical Report on Photochemistry aims to provide an annual review of photo-induced processes that have relevance to the above wide-ranging academic and commercial disciplines, and interests in chemistry, physics, biology and technology. In order to provide easy access to this vast and varied literature, each volume of Photochemistry comprises sections concerned with photophysical processes in condensed phases, organic aspects which are sub-divided by chromophore type, polymer photochemistry, and photochemical aspects of solar energy conversion. Volume 34 covers literature published from July 2001 to June 2002. Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage in major areas of chemical research. Compiled by teams of leading authorities in the relevant subject areas, the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, with regular, in-depth accounts of progress in particular fields of chemistry. Subject coverage within different volumes of a given title is similar and publication is on an annual or biennial basis.

    Book Details:
  • Author : Hans-Jürgen Fachmann
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-11-11
  • ISBN : 3662063573

Download or read book S Sulfur Nitrogen Compounds written by Hans-Jürgen Fachmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume is the first of a series describing acyclic sulfur-nitrogen compounds with sulfur of oxidation number IV. The acyclic sw-N compounds are arranged according to the coordination number of the sulfur. Neutral compounds are described before ions and complex compounds. The preceding series "Sulfur-Nitrogen Compounds" Parts 2, 3, and 4 covers the cyclic sw-N compounds. In this volume, the first section deals with sulfur-nitrogen compounds with 1-coordinate sulfur and begins with the sulfur nitride {thiazyl) radical, SN. This transient molecule was observed in its electronic ground state and several electronically excited states. The descrip tions of the sulfur nitride (thiazyl) ions SN+ and SW follow. The SN+ ionwas studied in the gas phase as weil as in the solid state where it forms salts. Thionitrosyl complexes containing the SN Iigand as a terminal linear unit are described at the end of the first section. The second section concerns Sulfur-nitrogen compounds with 2-coordinate sulfur and starts with the description of poly(sulfur nitride), (SNlx· The preparation, crystal structure, and metallic and superconducting properties of (SN)x, which were extensively studied, fill a !arge part of the volume. Halogen-modified poly(sulfur nitride) such as the widely studied (SNBr )x 04 and Na-modified poly(sulfur nitride) are dealt with in the following chapters.
