Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 17th century, the area now called Niskayuna consisted mostly of cornfields. Niskayuna officially became a town in Schenectady County when the county split off from Albany County in 1809. From its early days as a farming community to its present state as a suburban town, Niskayuna has attracted residents from many areas. Transportation has been crucial to the development of the town, beginning with the Albany-Schenectady Turnpike. After the turnpike came the Erie Canal, proposed in 1808 and completed in 1825, which linked the waters of Lake Erie in the west to the Hudson River. Water transportation was soon joined by the Schenectady Railroad Corporation and the Troy and Schenectady Railroad. Finally, a modern system of roads and highways came into being during the 20th century. As manufacturing grew in the nearby city of Schenectady, Niskayuna emerged as the residential suburb that it is today.

This book was released on 1997-10-28 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Widely praised, Greenwood's Biographical Dictionary of American Educators (Greenwood, 1978) quickly became a standard reference work for students and scholars of American education. This new volume includes biographical sketches of more than 400 notable researchers, leaders, reformers, critics, and practitioners from all major fields of education and extends the coverage of its predecessor to the mid-20th century. Its topical range encompasses such diverse areas as psychology, music, health, measurement and evaluation, science, special education, history, and administration. It treats education at all levels, including early childhood, elementary and secondary, higher, and adult. Most of the educators profiled were active in the 20th century, but several dozen have been included from the 19th century. A special effort has been made to include women and educators of color whose contributions have often been overlooked in the past. Each biographical sketch includes information on family background, a description of the educator's accomplishments, and a digest of the person's education and career, professional and civic service, major publications, and principal honors. Each profile ends with a list of references, and the volume closes with appendices listing birth places, states of major service, fields of work, a chronological listing of educators, and a list of important dates in American education. A comprehensive index concludes the volume. Educators are included from all fifty states and were selected from numerous suggested candidates for inclusion. Download or read book A Journey of Unconditional Love written by Michele Bell and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nicky Bell, diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma at age thirteen, died five years later, with his mother and best friend at his side. A Journey of Unconditional Love tells Nicky and Michele’s story, describing the battle with cancer in great detail. However, this book is about more than cancer and its treatment and the fight to survive. It’s about more than a mother and her son who had to face his mortality at such a young age and the despair and anguish that comes in losing that fight. It’s about more than death . . . This book is about life. It’s about how this mother and son approached the everyday moments of life despite the greater story that was playing out around them and was outside of their control. It’s about what each had learned from the other and the influential roles played in their life experiences. It is about how it still affects the life of the one left behind. It’s about the depth of human spirit and the soul’s ultimate survival, along with what the survivor is supposed to do with that energy. The connection between this mother and her son has lived on long after his passing, and it continues to be a force in this mother’s life every day. The inspiration in this story comes from the millions of small everyday moments, the choices made, the words spoken, and the unconditional love that makes such a seemingly senseless experience somehow bearable. This book gives a voice to parents and loved ones, caregivers and patients, those who relate to this loss, and those who know they feel every heartbeat in this story but who also struggle to come to grips with their own experience.
