Book Analysis and Assessment of Cardiovascular Function

Download or read book Analysis and Assessment of Cardiovascular Function written by Gary M. Drzewiecki and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this book is to provide the researcher and clinician with the recent developments in the analysis and assessment of cardiovascular func tion. The chapters are organized into sections that correspond with the various anatomical levels of the cardiovascular system. To a large extent, recent focus on the cardiovascular system function has been directed at the molecular level to the near exclusion of the tissue and organ function. While this may be useful in developing new therapeutic drugs, it does not aid the cardiologist or surgeon, who routinely deal with patient symptoms. This book integrates the micro-level and organ-level function so that new infor mation may be assimilated into the cardiovascular system as a whole. Within each section, the chapters have been arranged to progress from recent theoretical developments, to experimental research, and finally to clinical applications. This approach facilitates the timely transfer of infor mation from basic research to the clinic. The strength of the analytical approach will be evident to the reader. The theoretical analysis offers guidance to experimental design and, in some cases, offers solutions where measurements are as yet unattainable. In moving from newly attained knowledge to clinical practice, this book emphasizes the noninvasive meth in the future as technological advances ods. Such methods are desirable occur and the trend towards early preventive diagnosis is sought. What follows are highlights of new developments covered in each section of the book.

  • Pages : 412 pages

Download or read book Complex Systems written by Russel J. Stonier and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1994 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last few years have seen an extraordinary growth in many areas of complex systems. In the field of synergetics and cooperative behaviour in neural systems a new vocabulary emerged to describe discoveries of wide-ranging and fundamental phenomena, like for example artificial life, biocomplexity, cellular automata, chaos, criticality, fractals, learning systems, neural networks, non-linear dynamics, parallel computation, percolation, self-organization.One of the contributing factors to this growth is the extraordinary increase in computing power. Previously intractable non-linear systems are now amenable to analysis and simulation and parallel computers are ever more important in these areas. The book contains papers exploring many aspects of complex systems, covering theory and applications and deal with material drawn from many different disciplines and specialities.

Book Brain and Skeletal Systems

Download or read book Brain and Skeletal Systems written by Leondes and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1997-09-01 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of brain and skeletal medical imaging has been revolutionized by new techniques in powerful computations, image processing and modalities such as computer-aided tomography and magnetic resonance, among others. It is therefore an appropriate topic to be included in this series that studies the marriage of computer capabilities and medical imaging, which exemplifies a significant manifestation of relatively recent, valuable technologies known as the second industrial revolution. A few of the issues specifically studied in this book are the advantages of MRI for brain image processing over CAT and PET techniques; applications of image processing for the diagnosis, treatment and study of brain tumors; the connection between pathological changes in brain tissue associated with neurological disease; methods for consistently identifying and quantifying, "in vivo", techniques in high resolution computed tomography to assess density and microstructure of intact bones in a single measurement; bone age assessment methods as an important procedure in diagnosing and managing endocrine disorders; and using fractals to model bone structure to aid diagnosis of osteoporosis. This book clearly reveals the effectiveness and great significance of the brain and skeletal imaging techniques and applications available and, with further development, the essential role they will play in the future.
