Book Songs and Arias Ornamented by Giovanni Battista Velluti the Last Operatic Castrato

Download or read book Songs and Arias Ornamented by Giovanni Battista Velluti the Last Operatic Castrato written by Robert Crowe and published by A-R Editions, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-01-01 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition consists of twenty-nine songs and arias from the early nineteenth-century solo vocal music repertoire to which Giovanni Battista (Giambattista) Velluti (1780–1861) composed (and frequently, though not always, published) ornamentation. The last great operatic castrato, Velluti, over the course of his career, became increasingly well known not only for his singing, but also for his creative, adventuresome ornaments. His publications of ornamented songs and arias were frequent throughout the last decade of his career, when his singing style became less purely virtuosic and more concerned with affect. The edition includes only ornamented solo songs and arias with a secure attribution to Velluti. Those with doubtful or spurious attribution are excluded, as are Velluti’s ornamented duets and trios, as well as arias in full orchestral score.

Book A Singer s Guide to the American Art Song 1870 1980

Download or read book A Singer s Guide to the American Art Song 1870 1980 written by Victoria Etnier Villamil and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2004-10-05 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New in Paperback 2004. Probably the most comprehensive work on the American art song ever available, this book considers the lives and contributions of 144 significant composers in the field, including many for whom information has been extremely scarce. Most composers' entries consist of a biographical sketch; a brief discussion of his or her song writing characteristics (with emphasis on performers' concerns); a partial or complete listing of annotated songs; recording information; and the composer's individual bibliography. Song annotations include poet, publisher, date of composition (when known), voice type, range, duration, tempo indication, mood, subject matter, vocal style, special difficulties, general impression, artists who have recorded the song, and any other pertinent information. Thirty composers whose contributions are deemed of lesser import are summarized in brief essays. Appendixes include a supplement of recommended songs; a listing of American song anthologies and their contents; and the most recent information regarding publishers cited in the guide. There is also a general discography, a general bibliography, and indexes for both titles and poets. Documenting the most important 110 years in the development of American art song, this book is an indispensable tool for singers, teachers, coaches, accompanists, and libraries.

Book 26 Italian songs and arias

Download or read book 26 Italian songs and arias written by John Glenn Paton and published by Alfred Music Publishing. This book was released on 1991 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arias sung and loved by the greatest singers of the world are here in fresh, new versions. This edition: draws on original manuscripts and historical first editions, along with recent research of prominent musicologists, to meet a high standard of accuracy and authenticity; enhances your enjoyment of the arias with fascinating background information about their original appearance in cantatas and operas, and about their composers; corrects hundreds of errors -- even incorrect words, notes and composers' names -- which have accumulated as past publishers copied from each others' editions; removes Romantic era misinterpretations and 19th-century piano accompaniments, restoring the clear, bright sound of Baroque music. It will be easier than ever to learn the arias because the use of the International Phonetic Alphabet symbols removes doubts about correct pronunciation. It will be easier to sing the arias with meaning because the original Italian texts are translated into English in three ways: 1. a singable rhymed translation 2. a readable prose translation and 3. a literal translation of each single Italian word for those who are learning the language. - Back cover.

Book The Life of Bellini

Download or read book The Life of Bellini written by John Rosselli and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'A sigh in dancing pumps' was Heine's view of Bellini. His physical beauty, boundless success and untimely death at the age of thirty-three combined to give Bellini instant mythical status. But both the facts and the fantasies were to be embroidered by Bellini's close friend and eventual biographer Francesco Florimo, who distorted the posthumous image of the composer to the extent of altering or destroying letters in his possession. In John Rosselli's account of Bellini's life and music, a new picture of the composer emerges. He provides a more accurate view of Bellini's personality, his relationships and his short but dazzling career in Naples, Milan and Paris. He introduces the operatic world of the early nineteenth century, the singers of Bellini's roles, and, above all he explains the writing and performance of the operas themselves.
