Book Bank Privatization and Performance

Download or read book Bank Privatization and Performance written by Thorsten Beck and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2005 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Beck, Cull, and Jerome assess the effect of privatization on performance in a panel of Nigerian banks for the period 1990--2001. They find evidence of performance improvement in nine banks that were privatized, which is remarkable given the inhospitable environment for true financial intermediation. Their results also suggest negative effects of the continuing minority government ownership on the performance of many Nigerian banks. The authors' results complement aggregate indications of decreasing financial intermediation over the 1990s. Banks that focused on investment in government bonds and non-lending activities enjoyed a relatively higher performance. This paper--a product of the Finance Team, Development Research Group--is part of a larger effort in the group to study the effects of bank privatization in developing countries"--World Bank web site.

Book Industry Structure and Organisational Performance

Download or read book Industry Structure and Organisational Performance written by Ismail Soile and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considerable efforts have been made in Europe and America to investigate the relationship between industry structure and organisation performance. This study extends such investigation to Nigeria. Results are presented for tests of the two contending hypotheses of market structure on the Nigerian commercial banking industry using pooled data for the period of 1990 to 2000. Generally, the study finds evidence of a significant and positive relationship between concentration and profitability in the Nigerian banking industry and concludes that banking products and services in Nigeria are inefficiently priced. The study cautioned against the use of mergers and acquisitions as well as other related policies to managing banking crisis as these might lead to further concentration of the industry.

This book was released on 2014 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study assessed the effects of globalization on the performance of Nigerian banks. A while purposive sampling was used to select two top management staff in the marketing departments at the headquarters of each bank and fifty customers each from the 25 banks. Primary data were obtained from two questionnaires administered to marketers and customers of the banks. Interviews were also conducted with top management staff in the marketing departments of the banks. Secondary data on variables such as profit before and after tax, deposits, assets, capital base, loans, interest rates, ownership structure, and number of branches of Foreign Banks in Nigeria, among others were collected from the banks. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The results showed that globalization had significant and positive effects on the performance of banks. Book Post Merger Performance of Selected Nigerian Deposit Money Banks An Econometric Perspective

Download or read book Post Merger Performance of Selected Nigerian Deposit Money Banks An Econometric Perspective written by Onaolapo Abdul-Rahman and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper examined post merger performance of Nigerian banking sector with the aim of determining the effect and the extent to which merger influenced bank performance. A judgmental sample technique was used to select 15 listed commercial banks in Nigeria. Data were collected from the published annual reports and account of these banks and were analyzed using percentage and ratios. Multiple regressions were used in testing the hypotheses. The study revealed that there is a strong relationship between bank performance and merger (strategic decisions) - asset profile, capital structure, operating efficiency, liquidity risk and credit risk. That strategic decision has positively influenced bank performance. That on average, bank consolidation resulted into improved performance. The study therefore recommended that the management of the banks should embrace diversification and financial innovation on product strategies as this will help in generating more income for the banks. They should also try to use merger as a strategic tool which must be continuously applied and implemented.
