Book Vector Integration and Stochastic Integration in Banach Spaces

Download or read book Vector Integration and Stochastic Integration in Banach Spaces written by Nicolae Dinculeanu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-09-28 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A breakthrough approach to the theory and applications of stochastic integration The theory of stochastic integration has become an intensely studied topic in recent years, owing to its extraordinarily successful application to financial mathematics, stochastic differential equations, and more. This book features a new measure theoretic approach to stochastic integration, opening up the field for researchers in measure and integration theory, functional analysis, probability theory, and stochastic processes. World-famous expert on vector and stochastic integration in Banach spaces Nicolae Dinculeanu compiles and consolidates information from disparate journal articles-including his own results-presenting a comprehensive, up-to-date treatment of the theory in two major parts. He first develops a general integration theory, discussing vector integration with respect to measures with finite semivariation, then applies the theory to stochastic integration in Banach spaces. Vector Integration and Stochastic Integration in Banach Spaces goes far beyond the typical treatment of the scalar case given in other books on the subject. Along with such applications of the vector integration as the Reisz representation theorem and the Stieltjes integral for functions of one or two variables with finite semivariation, it explores the emergence of new classes of summable processes that make applications possible, including square integrable martingales in Hilbert spaces and processes with integrable variation or integrable semivariation in Banach spaces. Numerous references to existing results supplement this exciting, breakthrough work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The rediscovery of Bretan and the revival of his music today are important for two reasons. The need for atonement - for the political injustice done to the man himself, in his own country and as an artist - is fairly obvious. But the recovery of his works is a cultural obligation we all must share, as we must with respect to all of Western culture's great artistic creations."--BOOK JACKET.

  • Author : Celia Donert
  • Publisher : Central European University Press
  • Release : 2022-03-22
  • ISBN : 9633864283
  • Pages : 260 pages

Download or read book Making Sense of Dictatorship written by Celia Donert and published by Central European University Press. This book was released on 2022-03-22 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How did political power function in the communist regimes of Central and Eastern Europe after 1945? Making Sense of Dictatorship addresses this question with a particular focus on the acquiescent behavior of the majority of the population until, at the end of the 1980s, their rejection of state socialism and its authoritarian world. The authors refer to the concept of Sinnwelt, the way in which groups and individuals made sense of the world around them. The essays focus on the dynamics of everyday life and the extent to which the relationship between citizens and the state was collaborative or antagonistic. Each chapter addresses a different aspect of life in this period, including modernization, consumption and leisure, and the everyday experiences of “ordinary people,” single mothers, or those adopting alternative lifestyles. Empirically rich and conceptually original, the essays in this volume suggest new ways to understand how people make sense of everyday life under dictatorial regimes.

Book Bucharest Diary

  • Author : Alfred H. Moses
  • Publisher : Brookings Institution Press
  • Release : 2018-07-17
  • ISBN : 0815732732
  • Pages : 438 pages

Download or read book Bucharest Diary written by Alfred H. Moses and published by Brookings Institution Press. This book was released on 2018-07-17 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An insider's account of Romania's emergence from communism control In the 1970s American attorney Alfred H. Moses was approached on the streets of Bucharest by young Jews seeking help to emigrate to Israel. This became the author's mission until the communist regime fell in 1989. Before that Moses had met periodically with Romania's communist dictator, Nicolae Ceausescu, to persuade him to allow increased Jewish emigration. This experience deepened Moses's interest in Romania—an interest that culminated in his serving as U.S. ambassador to the country from 1994 to 1997 during the Clinton administration. The ambassador's time of service in Romania came just a few years after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the subsequent collapse of communism in Eastern Europe. During this period Romania faced economic paralysis and was still buried in the rubble of communism. Over the next three years Moses helped nurture Romania's nascent democratic institutions, promoted privatization of Romania's economy, and shepherded Romania on the path toward full integration with Western institutions. Through frequent press conferences, speeches, and writings in the Romanian and Western press and in his meetings with Romanian officials at the highest level, he stated in plain language the steps Romania needed to take before it could be accepted in the West as a free and democratic country. Bucharest Diary: An American Ambassador's Journey is filled with firsthand stories, including colorful anecdotes, of the diplomacy, both public and private, that helped Romania recover from four decades of communist rule and, eventually, become a member of both NATO and the European Union. Romania still struggles today with the consequences of its history, but it has reached many of its post-communist goals, which Ambassador Moses championed at a crucial time. This book will be of special interest to readers of history and public affairs—in particular those interested in Jewish life under communist rule in Eastern Europe and how the United States and its Western partners helped rebuild an important country devastated by communism.

Book Byzantium After Byzantium

Download or read book Byzantium After Byzantium written by Nicolae Iorga and published by Center For Romanian Studies. This book was released on 2023-01-24 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in French in 1935, the author's formula Byzantium after Byzantium defines several centuries of world history. Iorga points out the great contributions of Byzantine civilization to the Western world, especially during the Renaissance. He demonstrates that Byzantium survived through its people and local autonomies, as well as through its exiles--clerics, scholars, merchants, and political officials. One of the most important expressions of this was found in the Romanian principalities where Greeks from the Phanar district of Istanbul played a major role in Romanian political life, defining an entire period of Romanian history--the Phanariot Period. They continued the Byzantine ideas, aspirations, education, and way of life. All of this allows us to speak of a Byzantium after Byzantium.

Book Nicolae Ceausescu

Download or read book Nicolae Ceausescu written by Cristian Butnariu and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-02-14 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inside Ceausescu's Romania: An unquestionably efficient Police State In 1989, when peaceful revolutions were sweeping across Eastern Europe, the fall of communism in Romania was marked by a higher level of violence and bloodshed than elsewhere in the region. This was due, at least in part, to the repressive nature of the regime established by Nicolae Ceausescu (1965-1989) and his loyal secret police, the Securitate. Estimates suggest that the Securitate had a higher proportion of representatives per population than anywhere else in the communist block and that by the 1980s as many as one person in thirty had been recruited as a Securitate informer. In this pages, the author considers the deadly combination of Ceausescu's distinctive style of dynastic socialism with the establishment of a brutally efficient police state, which enabled him to maintain an iron grip on power until the dying days of communist rule across Eastern Europe.

Book Nicolae Iorga

Download or read book Nicolae Iorga written by Nicholas M. Nagy-Talavera and published by Center For Romanian Studies. This book was released on 1998 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Draws on archival sources and family documents as well as Iorga's vast output of writing to interpret the life of the 20th-century nationalist historian and Romanian politician. He seems to have been born in the early 1870s and to have been killed by Nazis in 1940. Among the chapters are nationalism and the writing of history, the uncertain triumph, the struggle toward tragedy, the Axis rainbow, and consideration of his life and work at the end of the 20th century. The narrative is very smooth but information not very accessible. Distributed in the US by ISBS. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
