Download or read book Transport Management and Car parking written by Department of Health: Estates and Facilities Division and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2006-05-10 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this guidance is to identify best practice in developing travel plans and providing adequate car-parking for NHS trust in England. (Travel plans are measures to manage travel to and from a site, and to reduce reliance on the car as a means of getting to work.) The guidance also assesses the Department for Transport's travel plan evaluation tool against NHS trust travel plans; provides a matrix to estimate a base level of car-parking provision (on the accompanying CD-ROM); identifies links to other assessment tools; suggests how to collect and monitor data; identifies successful partnership working, what encourages and motivates trusts, staff and the public; considers environmentally-friendly transport options. The key elements of best practice are: financial incentives or disincentives; car-parking constraints and management; a range of alternative modes of transport; strong management support; progressive incremental implementation over time; clear objectives; close partnership with local authorities and public transport operators; dedicated staff responsible for travel plans; and, very significantly, designation of a travel plan manager or champion.

Download or read book Community Care Practice and the Law written by Michael Mandelstam and published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers. This book was released on 2008-10-15 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fourth edition of Community Care Practice and the Law has been fully updated to reflect the rapid and continuing legal, policy and practice changes affecting community care. It provides comprehensive and jargon-free explanations of community care legislation, as well as other areas of law directly relevant to practitioners, including the NHS, disabled facilities grants and housing adaptations, asylum and immigration, mental capacity, human rights, disability discrimination, health and safety at work and negligence – and a range of legal provisions relevant to the protection and safeguarding of adults. Apart from the burgeoning legal case law and ombudsman investigations, changes from the last edition include coverage of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, legal implications of 'self directed care' and 'individual budgets', changes to direct payments and 'ordinary residence' determinations. In particular, new guidance applies to the high profile issue of NHS continuing health care. The book is an essential guide for practitioners and managers in both the statutory and voluntary sectors, policy makers in local authorities and the NHS, advocates, lawyers and social work students.

Download or read book Integrating Care written by Justin De Syllas and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-06-12 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a timely review of the contemporary interpretation of the ‘comprehensive health centre’, a building type that was originally advocated by health reformers in the UK in the first half of the twentieth century. The book discusses the development of this idea, the failure under the NHS to apply the idea in practice in the second half of the century and the recent emergence, in all four regions of the UK, of comprehensive health centres providing a wide range of health and social services, often linked to other community facilities. A review of the latest developments in comprehensive health centre design forms the core of the book in the form of detailed case studies of ten exemplary recent projects. Generously illustrated in full colour the case studies include plans, diagrams, photographs and analytical text, providing the reader with detailed information about a range of design approaches. Following devolution, NHS health policies in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales have begun to diverge and the role of the comprehensive health centre in the current health service of each country is assessed. Aimed at professionals, healthcare facilities providers and policy makers, the book also considers the opportunities for and obstacles facing the further development of the comprehensive health centre as an integral part of the infrastructure of the NHS in the future.

Download or read book Getting it right for victims and witnesses written by Great Britain: Ministry of Justice and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2012-01-30 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In December 2010 the Government published a consultation document, 'Breaking the cycle', which proposed wide-ranging reforms to the way in which offenders are sentenced by the courts and are subsequently dealt with in custody and in the community. The Government response to the consultation was published July 2011 and Parliament is currently considering a package of measures set out in the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill. This document builds on themes that the Government first articulated in 'Breaking the cycle', in particular the importance of offenders making a greater contribution to putting right the harm they have done to victims of crime. The reforms set out in the document for consultation are based on the following principles: i) practical and emotional support should be given to those who need it most; ii) victims should receive help as and when they need it; iii) services should meet the different needs of communities across the country; offenders should make reparation for the impact of their crimes.

Download or read book Inspiring a Medico Legal Revolution written by Pamela R. Ferguson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-09 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book marks the retirement of Professor Sheila McLean, whose contribution to the discipline of medical law has been truly ground breaking. As one of the pioneers of the discipline, Sheila McLean inspired a revolution in the ways in which lawyers, doctors, courts and patients perceive the relationship between medicine and the law. The first International Bar Association Professor of Law and Ethics in Medicine, she has worked tirelessly to champion the importance of law’s role in regulating medicine and protecting patients’ rights. The span in content of this book reflects the range of contributions that Professor McLean has herself made. Her work gave direction and shape to a new field of study at a time when few questioned the authority of medicine or thought much about the plight of the patient. This collection brings together 21 leading scholars in healthcare law and ethics to honour the depth and significance of her contribution. Including authors from the US, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, the contributions cover areas as diverse as start and end of life, reproductive rights and termination of pregnancy, autonomy of patients, the protection of vulnerable patient groups, and the challenges posed by new technologies.
