Book excerpt: Newfoundland and Labrador is on the verge of a new era in frontier oil exploration and development and the province's resources are attracting the attention of the global industry. Building on 15 years of proven production success, Nalcor Energy is driving a world class exploration data acquisition program that is shedding new oil and gas insights on the nearly two dozen basins surrounding the province. Through Nalcor's driven seismic data acquisition program, over 110,000 line kilometres of 2D data has been acquired ? data that is finding and quantifying new oil and gas resource potential for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. Sitting at the edge of an underexplored 1.5 million square kilometres, new data is showing many areas of offshore Newfoundland and Labrador are highly prospective for oil and gas. Coupled with recent discoveries, a new assessment of the oil and gas potential for the Flemish Pass area and a 2015 land sale that resulted in the largest exploration commitment in the province's history, offshore Newfoundland and Labrador is poised for an exciting period of exploration and development. Join us for Newfoundland and Labrador's Offshore Oil and Gas Industry: A New Era of Exploration. During this 60-minute webinar with Dr. Richard Wright, Exploration Manager with Nalcor Energy, will walk through the oil and gas potential for offshore Newfoundland and Labrador. Richard is playing a key role in developing and executing Nalcor's multi-year exploration strategy?a strategy focused on systematically finding and quantifying Newfoundland and Labrador's oil and gas resource potential to maximize the benefit for the people of the province, while reducing risk and uncertainty for the global industry to facilitate new exploration investments.

Download or read book Offshore Oil written by Roger Voyer and published by James Lorimer & Company. This book was released on 1983-01-01 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1983, Offshore Oil is an early and prescient analysis of the prospects for oil and gas development off Canada's east coast. The book examines the potential of offshore oil to provide growth in Canadian industries. As development proceeds huge sums will be invested and oil companies' needs include platforms, drilling rigs, ships, plants and a host of smaller items such as drills, pumps, transformers and electronic equipment. This presents opportunities not only for traditional industries such as steel and shipbuilding but also for the high-technology sector. Offshore oil holds the prospect of energy self-sufficiency for Canada and of better times for the depressed Atlantic economy. But development of gas could also bring a "boom and bust" that damages the region's social and economic fabric. This book considers both possibilities.

Book excerpt: Thanks to increasingly extreme forms of oil extraction, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Newfoundland and Labrador underwent exceptional economic growth from 2005 to 2015. Fossilized investigates the environmental policy trends that supported this development trajectory, such as institutional restructuring that prioritizes extraction over environmental protection, alongside inadequate environmental assessment, land-use planning, and emissions controls. Angela Carter’s detailed analysis situates the policy dynamics of Canada’s largest oil-producing provinces within the historical and global context of late-stage petro-capitalism and deepening neoliberalization. As the global community moves toward decarbonization, Canada's petro-provinces are instead doubling down on oil – to their ecological and economic peril.

Book Local Business Adaptation to East Coast Offshore Energy Development

Download or read book Local Business Adaptation to East Coast Offshore Energy Development written by Atlantic Consulting Economists Limited and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of the Hibernia offshore oil field will generate substantial demand for a broad range of goods and services, representing an opportunity for local businesses. This study has two objectives: to identify and evaluate business strategies used by Newfoundland companies to participate in the commercial opportunities associated with the development of offshore energy resources, and to review the oil industry experience with local suppliers and manufacturers in Newfoundland. Study methodology included a survey of a representative sample of 30 local companies and interviews with representatives of operating oil companies and their major contractors. Results are presented in three parts: an analysis of the results of the local company survey, discussion of the oil industry's assessment of local company business practices along with suggestions for increasing local company participation, and a comparison of selected results of the survey with results from a comparable study in Nova Scotia. Interview guides used in the study are appended.

This book was released on 1997 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Terra Nova development is a proposal to develop the petroleum resources of the Terra Nova oil field located on the north-east Grand Banks. Development will take place using a floating production, storage, and offloading vessel; semi-submersible drilling rigs; and shuttle tankers to carry the produced oil to on-shore facilities. This report describes the Terra Nova proposal, the process for a joint federal-provincial environmental assessment of the project, and the fundamental findings and recommendations arising from the assessment. These findings and recommendations cover the following: the socio-economic impacts of the project, including employment opportunities, worker safety, and benefits to the economy; the impact of the environment (such as wind, weather, waves, and ice) on the project; environmental effects of the project, including those from offshore discharges, drilling waste, produced water, and oil spills; and monitoring of the effects of the project. Includes glossary.

Book Eastcoast Offshore Oil

Download or read book Eastcoast Offshore Oil written by Sonya Dakers and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discovery of important accumulations of oil and natural gas in the eastcoast offshore region promises major economic and strategic benefits to Canada. Two important finds in particular, the Venture natural gas field and the Hibernia oil field, have spurred unprecedented oil and gas activity in Atlantic Canada in recent years in spite of a long-standing jurisdictional dispute between the federal government and Newfoundland. This document looks at eastcoast offshore oil and gas development.
