Download or read book Second International Handbook of Lifelong Learning written by David N. Aspin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-18 with total page 1011 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of the International Handbook of Lifelong Learning is extensive, innovative, and international in scope, remit and vision, inviting its readers to engage in a critical re-appraisal of the theme of “lifelong learning”. It is a thorough-going, rigorous and scholarly work, with profound and wide-ranging implications for the future of educating institutions and agencies of all kinds in the conception, planning and delivery of lifelong learning initiatives. Lifelong learning requires a wholly new philosophy of learning, education and training, one that aims to facilitate a coherent set of links and pathways between work, school and education, and recognises the necessity for government to give incentives to industry and their employees so they can truly “invest” in lifelong learning. It is also a concept that is premised on the understanding of a learning society in which everyone, independent of race, creed or gender, is entitled to quality learning that is truly excellent. This book recognises the need for profound changes in education and for goals that are critically important to education, economic advancement, and social involvement. To those concerned about the future of our society, our economy and educational provision, this book provides a richly illuminating basis for powerful debate. Drawing extensively on policy analyses, conceptual thinking and examples of informed and world-standard practice in lifelong learning endeavours in the field, both editors and authors seek to focus readers' attention on the many issues and decisions that must be addressed if lifelong learning is to become a reality for us all.

Download or read book Organisational Psychology in Australia and New Zealand written by Michael P. O'Driscoll and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2003 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organisational psychology, also know as industrial and organisational (I/O) psychology, is a dynamic and pervasive field within the general discipline of psychology. Organisational psychology focuses on people attitudes, values and behaviours in the domain of work, especially within organisational settings, such as private businesses, government organisations, the military and so on. The field covers a very wide range of issues, ranging from the selection of individual people for specific jobs through to the management of large-scale organisational change and development. Organisational psychologists therefore contribute to a broad array of processes and functions within organisations. While many textbooks relating to organisational psychology are available, almost all of these have been developed in either the United States or the United Kingdom, and hence refer to conditions applying predominantly in those countries. Consequently, although much of the theory and research described in these texts is of a general nature, there is some lack of direct 'practical relevance' to Australian and New Zealand conditions. Furthermore, the considerable amount of research conducted within these two countries is frequently overlooked in other international texts. The purpose of this textbook is therefore, to provide a coverage of essential topics in the field of organisational psychology, as far as possible to introduce research illustrations from Australia and New Zealand, as well as international research in each topic area, and incorporate Australian and New Zealand examples and case studies to illustrate the local relevance of theory and research. Each chapter contains a 'practice illustration' and a case study relating to either Australia or New Zealand. Questions for discussion at the end of each chapter will focus on issues that are directly relevant to students in these two countries.

Download or read book Comparative Studies in Australian and New Zealand English written by Pam Peters and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2009-07-29 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This anthology brings together fresh corpus-based research by international scholars. It contrasts southern and northern hemisphere usage on variable elements of morphology and syntax. The nineteen invited papers include topics such as irregular verb parts, pronouns, modal and quasimodal verbs, the perfect tense, the progressive aspect, and mandative subjunctives. Lexicogrammatical elements are discussed: light verbs (e.g. have a look), informal quantifiers (e.g. heaps of), no-collocations, concord with government and other group nouns, alternative verb complementation (as with help, prevent), zero complementizers and connective adverbs (e.g. however). Selected information-structuring devices are analyzed, e.g. there is/are, like as a discourse marker, final but as a turn-taking device, and swearwords. Australian and New Zealand use of hypocoristics and changes in gendered expressions are also analyzed. The two varieties pattern together in some cases, in others they diverge: Australian English is usually more committed to colloquial variants in speech and writing. The book demonstrates linguistic endonormativity in these two southern hemisphere Englishes.
