Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The famous NZ surgeon (who became a Naturopath) and healed his patients without drugs or surgery. New Zealand's Greatest Doctor, Ulric Williams of Wanganui - a Surgeon who became a Naturopath. His Background Dr Ulric Williams of Wanganui, was a Surgeon and GP who practiced from the 1920s to the 1960s, he was born 22 May 1890 at Putiki near Wanganui. He was a tall (6'2") reserved man, good looking and a very good athlete. He had an exceptional mind and trained as a doctor in the UK at Cambridge and Edinburgh Universities. Early in his career, Dr Ulric Williams had the reputation of being a 'playboy doctor' more interested in sports, golf, women and booze than his patients. His Epiphany He returned to New Zealand and operated a general practice and while working as a surgeon at the Wanganui Hospital, he became dissatisfied with surgery as a means of treatment. One night, after Dr Williams had pushed through his last patient for the day, he heard a voice speak to him and say, "Are you not ashamed of yourself?" He believed the voice to be from God and it became a turning point. He said, "I never became a real doctor until I forgot 95% of what I was taught at Edinburgh." His new treatment methods used no drugs or surgery. 'Terminally ill' patients These treatments put him at odds with the establishment and the system who did all they could to prevent him practicing and lecturing the new found methods he came to know and use to great effect. Not surprisingly when the establishments patients could not by cured by their treatments many sought out Dr Williams. Dr Williams' patients were chronically ill with Cancer, Arthritis, TB and Heart Disease. This book talks about them being either completely healed or greatly improved. This book reveals his simple methods. These included the avoidance of words like ..". you have been diagnosed with .... and you have .... days/weeks/years to live." He understood how the state of mind played a huge role in healing a patient and was a pioneer of using "raw food" as a healing agent. Brenda Sampson of Wellington, who wrote this book states she was healed of serious arthritis, by him, as a young woman. Today he would be considered a GP who used natural methods of healing and would most likely have had an international fan base. In his day he had to fight to retain his ability to practice medicine and businessmen, politicians and peers will have to answer to god for the many ways in which they stifled Dr Williams message and healing gifts, all in the pursuit of pride and and preserving profits.

Book First Catch Your Weka

Download or read book First Catch Your Weka written by David Veart and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "'First catch your Weka', the explorer Charles Heaphy advised in 1842, then stuff it with sage and onion and roast it on a stick. In that simple way began a great tradition of New Zealand cooking, from Heaphy to the Edmonds Cookery Book, Alison Holst, Hudson and Halls, and the meal on your plate today. In this book, David Veart tells the story of what New Zealanders cooked through the recipes we used. Analysing the crusty deposits and grubby thumb prints on a century and a half of cook books, Veart chronicles the extraordinary foods that we have loved: from boiled calf's head to the Bill Rowling cake, Irish famine soup to tinned kidneys with mushrooms. First Catch your Weka illuminates the basic elements that make New Zealand cooking distinctive and reveals how our cuisine and our culture have changed. Throughout that history, Veart finds a people who frequently first liked to catch their weka - building a meal out of oysters taken from the rocks, vegetables from the garden and a lamb from the neighbouring farm. By telling the history of what we ate, First Catch your Weka tells us a great deal about who we have been."--BOOK JACKET.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Butcher Shop first appeared in 1926. Despite big overseas sales it was banned in New Zealand and later Australia for being disgusting, indecent and communistic &– in other words for promoting revolutionary ideas about women and for a bold portrayal of the brutality of farm life. On one level, the novel is a fast-paced account of how passion and jealousy destroy the lives of a rich and cultured farming family; on another it is a fierce polemic for the freedom of women, which in its frankness was years ahead of its time.

Book excerpt: This critical examination of Maoriland literature argues against the former glib dismissals of the period and focuses instead on the era’s importance in the birth of a distinct New Zealand style of writing. By connecting the literature and other cultural forms of Maoriland to the larger realms of empire and contemporary criticism, this study explores the roots of the country’s modern feminism, progressive social legislation, and bicultural relations.
