Book Immunity to Change

Download or read book Immunity to Change written by Robert Kegan and published by Harvard Business Press. This book was released on 2009-02-15 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unlock your potential and finally move forward. A recent study showed that when doctors tell heart patients they will die if they don't change their habits, only one in seven will be able to follow through successfully. Desire and motivation aren't enough: even when it's literally a matter of life or death, the ability to change remains maddeningly elusive. Given that the status quo is so potent, how can we change ourselves and our organizations? In Immunity to Change, authors Robert Kegan and Lisa Lahey show how our individual beliefs--along with the collective mind-sets in our organizations--combine to create a natural but powerful immunity to change. By revealing how this mechanism holds us back, Kegan and Lahey give us the keys to unlock our potential and finally move forward. And by pinpointing and uprooting our own immunities to change, we can bring our organizations forward with us. This persuasive and practical book, filled with hands-on diagnostics and compelling case studies, delivers the tools you need to overcome the forces of inertia and transform your life and your work.

Book The Prayer of Silence

  • Author : Phd Bruce Fraser MacDonald
  • Publisher : Strategic Book Publishing
  • Release : 2011-11
  • ISBN : 161897193X
  • Pages : 291 pages

Download or read book The Prayer of Silence written by Phd Bruce Fraser MacDonald and published by Strategic Book Publishing. This book was released on 2011-11 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The Prayer of Silence” has several aims: 1. to teach basic relaxation and concentration methods based on bodily awareness; 2. to develop an awareness of the Divine Presence; 3. to overcome emotional and personality blocks to develop a sense of personal wholeness; 4. to develop an awareness of what the author, drawing on a near death experience in 1966, calls “the Watcher” aspect of consciousness that speeds the development of spiritual perception of inner “Love, Peace and Joy,” 5. to transform the ego from attachment to material and emotional limits to a spiritual Ego that is one with the “Atman” or “Spirit,” and to extend that spiritual awareness to the world and other people; 6. to be able to deal with the conflicts and potential arising from the memory of past lives; 7. to be able to find a “Spiritual Guide” in the inner person; 8. to be able to deal with the inevitable “dry periods” in spiritual practice; 9. to experience “Nirvana,” where all lower attachments are blown out; and 10. to achieve Divine Union, where the Ego and God are One, where “Atman experiences itself as one with Brahman,” where one can say with Jesus, “I and the Father are One.” There is also a very good chapter on “mantras,” so the student can learn about their nature and use, although the Prayer of Silence uses a different, more direct form of focus to achieve concentration and inner awareness. Dr. MacDonald has also remembered and worked with many of his own past lives, so he is a reliable guide to others who are going through that process. The author is a master teacher and the book presents its material in a steadily more complex form, laying the necessary foundations before proceeding to the higher levels of learning. There is a combination of theory and practical exercises so the learner can develop meditation skills gradually but with confidence, building from one stage to the next to achieve mastery of the subject. The writing is clear and concise and easy to understand. In order to explain the often difficult ideas associated with meditation and spiritual growth, Dr. MacDonald draws on the language, ideas and practice of Christian, Hindu, Jewish, and Buddhist traditions to clarify ideas from different angles. He also draws on relevant scientific studies of human consciousness to help make the ideas and aims of this Prayer of Silence clear to the reader.

Book excerpt: In todays world, women desperately struggle to meet the unrealistic expectations of others and of themselves. Society tells women they can do it all, and yet they instinctively know they do not have the resources to accomplish all the demands placed upon them. Drawing on their own strength is not enough; in order to survive, women must draw on God. Sixty Days of Grace shares sixty stories from author Dorothy Ruppert, who has struggled through life and succeeded, only because of Gods grace. This grace is the prevalent theme of the Bible. From beginning to end, the accounts of the lives of biblical figures demonstrate His eternal grace. However, in modern society His grace is often overlooked. There are many challenges women face as daughters of the King living in a broken environment. Ruppert has been there, as mother, grandmother, working woman, and retiree. Thanks to His grace, she found her strength. All women can do the same, with the power of God. Its time to turn away from self-sufficiency and lean on Gods everlasting arm, because His grace is sufficient for the journey; His power is made perfect in human weakness.

Book The Arab Israeli Conflict Transformed

Download or read book The Arab Israeli Conflict Transformed written by Hemda Ben-Yehuda and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Middle East conflict, be it between the state of Israel and Arab states or between Jews and Palestinians, is a staple of international news. Utilizing both theoretical approaches and empirical evidence, Hemda Ben-Yehuda and Shmuel Sandler argue that despite the recent upswing in violence, particularly over the Palestinian issue, conflict has gradually been giving way, since the 1970s, to a more orderly regime of conflict management. By integrating ethnonational theoretical literature into their analysis, the authors move beyond the current International Relations debate over the relative merits of realist/neo-realist approaches versus neo-liberal-institutional approaches. Ethnic-state disputes are the primary source for failing to terminate the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Book The Transfiguration of Christ and Creation

Download or read book The Transfiguration of Christ and Creation written by John Gatta and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The biblical story of Jesus' Transfiguration "on a high mountain" bristles with meanings germane to present-day concerns and spiritual longings. Together with its later artistic representations, this episode from the synoptic gospels seizes the imagination as an icon of mystical hope, beauty, and possibility. What might such an iconic episode, long honored liturgically in the Eastern church, disclose not only about Jesus, but also about the prospect of seeing our human nature transformed? And as interpreted by Christian tradition since the patristic era, what might it tell us about the worth of envisioning not just a conservation or preservation of natural resources but a transfiguration of all creation, and about how this "feast of beauty" could re-energize current discussions of Christianity's relation to environmental attitudes and policy? Such questions are addressed in this book through an original blend of personal reflection with commentary on relevant theological and scriptural texts, literary works, music, and art.
