Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Echinoderms are an ancient and diverse group of marine animals with a rich fossil record. They occur abundantly in all modern oceans and at all depths, where they contribute importantly to patterns in biodiversity and to the structure and functioning of marine systems. It is therefore vital to understand how they will respond to a rapidly cha

Book Echinoderms Through Time

Download or read book Echinoderms Through Time written by Bruno David and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-12-17 with total page 965 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Echinoderms are now considered as a biological and geological model that underlies researches of primary importance. The extent of the contributions made by the International Echinoderm Conferences to various fields of research is attested by the scope covered by presentation at the international conferences. These proceedings contain the complete papers or abstracts of all the presentations and posters presented at the eighth International Echinoderm Conference, held in Dijon, France in September, 1994. Coverage includes: general; extinct classes; crinoids; asteroids; ophiuroids; holothuroids; and echinoids.

Book excerpt: Sea Urchins: Biology and Ecology, Fourth Edition, Volume 43 expands its coverage to include the entire class of Echinoidea, making this new edition an authoritative reference of the entire class of species. This is a valuable resource that will help readers gain a deep understanding of the basic characteristics of sea urchins, the basis of the great variation that exists in sea urchins, and how sea urchins are important components of marine ecosystems. Updated coverage includes sections on reproduction, metabolism, endocrinology, larval ecology, growth, digestion, carotenoids and disease. Includes pertinent tables and graphs within chapters to visually summarize information Provides case studies with research applications to provide potential solutions Includes the entire class of Echinoidea and the effect of climate change on the biology and ecology of the species

Book Nearshore Marine Paleoclimatic Regions Increasing Zoogeographic Provinciality Molluscan Extinctions and Paleoshorelines California

Download or read book Nearshore Marine Paleoclimatic Regions Increasing Zoogeographic Provinciality Molluscan Extinctions and Paleoshorelines California written by Clarence A. Hall and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2002 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Approximately 3000 middle and late Cenozoic nearshore marine molluscan taxa from western California are assigned to six time periods, spanning ~25 m.y. In this interdisciplinary study, western California is palinspastically restored for each of the time periods by backsliding and back-rotating large fault blocks or crustal units. Marine fossil assemblages are assigned to nearshore paleoclimatic regions or water masses within palinspastically restored California. In addition, this volume reveals positive feedback mechanisms between paleolatitudinal changes in sea-surface paleotemperature gradients and changes in the diversity of marine mollusks along the California coast through time; defines "equable" based effective temperatures; and analyzes extinction rates among macroinvertebrate marine taxa from coastal California and the possible causes of these extinctions. The late Paleogene to Neogene faunas reflect an increase in faunal diversity related to strengthened temperature gradients, greater extremes in sea-surface temperatures, reduction in temperateness, and the development of an embayed California coastline.

Book Biogeography Time and Place Distributions Barriers and Islands

Download or read book Biogeography Time and Place Distributions Barriers and Islands written by Willem Renema and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-09-07 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers exchanges between the fields of paleontology and zoology as patterns of biodiversity have long attracted the attention of both biologists and paleontologists. It covers the development of isolated island faunas, paleogeography and zoomorphology. The book shows that patterns are not always what they seem if looked at without a spatial or temporal reference.
