Book Power actuated Fasteners in Single Shear

Download or read book Power actuated Fasteners in Single Shear written by Anna Milewska and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents the results of 81 tests on the design strength of power-actuated fasteners, in single shear connections for a light gauge steel framing (LGSF), as an alternative to screws. This type of connection can be employed to install a reinforcing plate on one or both sides of the frame, to connect steel strap cross bracing to framing, as well as for many other applications. They provide a very efficient and practical solution which would increase productivity and work quality by replacing time-consuming screw connections. Modes of failure for both the fastener and the connected material are covered, to provide an understanding of the structural performance of nailed single lap connections and develop recommendations and proposed formulae. The investigation covers a wide range of steel gauges commonly used in LGSF residential and commercial applications. Two groups of tests were performed. The first group of tests was conducted to determine the shear strength of connectors with two types of them being tested. The second tests series were carried out in various steel grade and gauge configurations for assembled connections. The results of this research will be used to establish the strength prediction model for power-actuated fasteners embedded into LGSF and applicable to New Zealand practice.

Book Cold Formed Steel Design

Download or read book Cold Formed Steel Design written by Wei-Wen Yu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-10-29 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides the latest AISI North American specifications for cold-formed steel design Hailed by professionals around the world as the definitive text on the design of cold-formed steel, this book provides descriptions of the construction and structural behavior of cold-formed steel members and connections from both theoretical and experimental points of view. Updated to reflect the 2016 AISI North American specification and 2015 North American framing standards, this all-new fifth edition offers readers a better understanding of the analysis and design of the thin-walled, cold-formed steel structures that have been widely used in building construction and other areas in recent years. Cold-Formed Steel Design, 5th Edition has been revised and reorganized to incorporate the Direct Strength Method. It discusses the reasons and justification for the various design provisions of the North American specification and framing design standards. It provides chapter coverage of: the types of steels and their most important mechanical properties; the fundamentals of buckling modes; commonly used terms; the design of flexural members, compression members and closed cylindrical tubes, and of beam–columns using ASD, LRFD, and LSD methods; shear diaphragms and shell roof structures; standard corrugated sheets; and more. Updated to the 2016 North American (AISI S100) design specification and 2015 North American (AISI S240) design standard Offers thorough coverage of ASD, LRFD, LSD, and DSM design methods Integrates DSM in the main body of design provisions Features a new section on Power-Actuated Fastener (PAF) Connections Provides new examples and explanations of design provisions Cold-Formed Steel Design, 5th Edition is not only instructive for students, but can serve as a major source of reference for structural engineers, researchers, architects, and construction managers.

Book C Shaped Angle Shear Connectors in High Strength Concrete

Download or read book C Shaped Angle Shear Connectors in High Strength Concrete written by Mahdi Shariati and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-06-18 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shear connectors between concrete slabs and steel beams in composite constructions play an important role in the seismic response of a structure. Headed stud and Perfobond shear connectors are the most common types of shear connectors while the application of C-shaped shear connectors was increasing over the last decade. Since there are some limitations in the use of headed studs and Perfobond connectors, the use of C-shaped shear connectors is recommended. In this book, the behavior of C-shaped angle shear connectors embedded in high strength concrete are presented. The connectors were tested under monotonic and low cyclic fatigue loading. Investigations were conducted in order to consider several parameters affecting the performance of the angle shear connectors such as the connectors' geometric properties and different concrete strength. The results of experimental push-out tests were used to verify the parametric investigations. Based on the results, angle shear connectors showed good behavior in terms of shear capacity but not in ductility as the main criterion for the behavior of shear connectors. The details of angle shear connector behavior have been discussed in details.
