Book New Tabernacle Sermons Classic Reprint

Download or read book New Tabernacle Sermons Classic Reprint written by Thomas de Witt Talmage and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-02-17 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from New Tabernacle Sermons There are two sides to the character of Samson. The one phase of his life, if followed into the particulars, would administer to the grotesque and the mirthful; but there is a phase of his character fraught with lessons of solemn and eternal import. To these graver lessons we devote our morning sermon. This giant no doubt in early life gave evidences of what he was to be. It is almost always so. There were two Napoleons - the boy Napoleon and the man Napoleon but both alike; two Howards - the boy Howard and the man Howard - but both alike; two Samsons - the boy Samson and the man Samson - but both alike. This giant was no doubt the hero of the playground, and nothing could stand before his exhibitions of youthful prowess. At eighteen years of age he was betrothed to the daughter of a Philistine. Going down toward Timnath, a lion came out upon him, and, although this young giant was weap onless, he seized the monster by the long mane and shook him as a hungry hound shakes a March hare, and made his bones crack, and left him by the wayside bleeding under the smiting Of his fist and the grinding heft of his heel. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Old Wells Dug Out: Being a Third Series of Sermons Some of these discourses were preached in the Brook lyn Tabernacle, and others in the Academy of Music, while our new church was being built. As word comes to us from all directions that the pre vions volumes have been the means of comfort and sal vation to very many on both sides the Atlantic, we send this book out, hoping it may do a similar work. These sermons, like their predecessors, were taken down by phonographers, and are left as they were uttered in ex temporaneous delivery, without any material changes, because I have not had time to reconstruct them. They are part of my life. With me the lecturing platform and the literary column are episodes; but the preaching of the Gospel of the Son of God is my chief employment and my indescribable delight. The Chris tian printing-press is only the pulpit on cylinders. May this attempt to preach through the printed page harvest many sheaves for the Lord's garner! Download or read book The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit Vol 21 written by C. H. Spurgeon and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-03-13 with total page 736 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit, Vol. 21: Sermons Preached and Revised by C. H. Spurgeon, During the Year 1875 This pride very often leads tehaughtiness, domineering ways others, and contempt of them, as if they were not as good as we are; and if we see any errors and mistakes in them we conclude that they are very foolish, and that we should act much better if we were in their position. If they act nobly and well, this same pride of ours leads us to pick holes in them, and to detract from their excel lence; and if we cannot get up as high as they are, we try to pull them down to eurowa leml. This is a base thingto do, but the proud man is always mean, loftiness of locks and meanness of heart run in a leash like a couple of bounds. The humble man is the truly great man, and because Godfs gentleness has made him great he is sure to be kept lowly belbre the Lord by the Holy Spirit. The proud man is really little; nay more, he is really nothing even in the things wherein he boasts himself. David could say, My heart is not haughty. His. Brother, Eliab. Book Types and Emblems Being a Collection of Sermons Preached on Sunday and Thursday Evenings at the Metropolitan Tabernacle Classic Reprint

Spurgeon and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Types and Emblems Being a Collection of Sermons Preached on Sunday and Thursday Evenings at the Metropolitan Tabernacle This prophecy may have some reference to David; but we feel persuaded that the true design of the Holy Spirit is to set forth an emblem of our Lord Jesus Christ. All nature, above as well as around us, is laid under contribution to set forth our Lord. All the flowers of the field and many of the beasts of the plain, and now the very orbs of heaven, are turned into metaphors and symbols by which the glory of Jesus may be manifested to us. Where God takes such pains to teach, we ought to be at pains to learn. Where he makes heaven and earth to be the pages of the book, we ought to be most ardent in our study. Oh, you who have neglected to learn of Christ, may that neglect come to an end, and may some word be spoken which shall be as the beaming of a star unto the darkness of your soul, that henceforth you may be led to know Christ, and to be found in him. Our Lord, then, is compared to a star, and we shall have seven reasons to assign for this. I. He is called a star 's the Symbol of Government.
