Book Foundations of New Socialism

Download or read book Foundations of New Socialism written by Robert Corfe and published by Arena books. This book was released on 2001 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can sincere support be given wholly to a political party unless it has clear principles underpinning its base? Such a question is of particular relevance when asked of the Labour party in view of the events which have shattered the foundations of socialism worldwide over the past decade. The author, who has considerable practical experience as a Labour party activist, sets out to re-establish the concept of socialism as a vision for the future. But the forward-looking views of New Socialism need to be very different from the old. The transformation of society over the past 60 years means that old doctrines have to be replaced by new if socialism is to be made attractive to the modern man or woman.

Book Making Capitalism Great Again

Download or read book Making Capitalism Great Again written by John Di Lemme and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-15 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "America will never be a socialist country!" This was President Donald J. Trump's response to the Democrat party pushing for socialism, and his commitment to the American people that it will never happen. Socialism is a relatively foreign concept for most Americans, which is understandable since we've never lived under a socialist regime. That's why it's so easy for the far left politicians to mesmerize our citizens with promises of a better future through economic and social equality. They conveniently leave out the devastation that will be caused if socialism is ever adopted in our nation. This is especially true for business owners and entrepreneurs. As a Capitalism Strategist for over twenty years, John Di Lemme has spoken to hundreds of thousands of people around the world and consulted for thousands of business owners and entrepreneurs that have devoted their entire lives to building successful businesses and brands. He's seen how our capitalist economy gives us the freedom to build businesses, market products/services, serve consumers, and make (and spend) as much money as we want. Because we own our businesses and are in control of the profits that we generate. Yes, the government does regulate various parts of our businesses, and there are laws that we must follow to protect public interests, but we are the ultimate decision makers for our success or failure. John knew that he couldn't just sit back and watch as our free enterprise system is destroyed by socialists, which would simultaneously ruin the lives of every business owner and entrepreneur in America. He decided to confront the evils of socialism and call liberals out for their lies. Understanding how to maximize capitalism in the United States economy will stop the socialists in their tracks as businesses flourish and thrive. This level of success is possible for any business owner or entrepreneur no matter their industry, niche, product, or service when they implement the strategies and systems that John layouts in this book. In order to defeat your enemy, you must know your enemy. Socialism is the enemy of America. He closes the book with the ABCs of Socialism versus Capitalism, which provides a more than detailed personal, business, and political perspective on the benefits of Capitalism and the pitfalls of Socialism. John invites you to join the "Making Capitalism Great Again" movement to increase prosperity in America and defeat the economic enemy of socialism.

Book A New Model of Socialism

Download or read book A New Model of Socialism written by Bruno Jossa and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2018-04-27 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economic democracy is essential for creating a truly democratic political sphere. This engaging book uses Marxist theory to hypothesise that capitalism is not a democratic system, and that a modern socialist system of producer cooperatives and democratically managed enterprises is urgently needed. A New Model of Socialismfocuses on the current crisis of the political Left, a result of the collapse of the Soviet model of society and the decline of statism and kingship. Bruno Jossa expands on existing theories to explore Marx?s notions on economic democracy in a modern setting. He advocates a move away from the centralised planning form of economic socialism towards a self-management system for firms that does not prioritise the interests of one class over another, in order to achieve greater economic democracy. It is argued that the establishment of such a system of democratic firms is the precondition for reducing intervention in the economy, thus enabling the State to perform its ultimate function of serving the public interest. This timely book is ideal for advanced scholars of Marxist, radical and heterodox economic theory, as well as academics with an interest in the rise of socialism in our modern world. Indeed, it will also be of value to all those seeking a viable and practical alternative to existing capitalist and socialist thinking.

From Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal, the U.S. is witnessing a leftward shift that hasn't been seen for decades. But how many Americans truly understand socialism and socialist principles? The New Socialist Handbook is a simple way to learn about this political system and bear witness to its current movement with an educated and informed mind. It discusses topics such as: Different types of socialism (democratic socialism vs. social democracy vs. eco-socialism, etc.); How socialism became a dirty word; Which countries are socialist or have socialist programs; The way socialism exists in the U.S. today (Medicare, Social Security, etc.); Socialist suggestions for today's issues (healthcare, infrastructure, economy, etc.); What can you do to bring about change? (getting involved in politics, educating yourself, demonstrating, etc.) Perfect for the engaged voter or the armchair political scientist, pundit, enthusiast, or anyone simply looking to get a better intellectual grasp on socialism, The New Socialist Handbook gives meaning and definition to the commonly misunderstood. Author Dan Tucker breaks down these topics in a clear, accessible way and without a political slant. Book The 99 Percent Economy

Download or read book The 99 Percent Economy written by Paul S. Adler and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2019-10 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The social, economic, and political challenges we face have reached the point of crisis: economic irrationality contributes to workplace disempowerment, social disintegration, political alienation, and environmental degradation. Despair is not an option. The 99 Percent Economy provides a stirring alternative: Democratic Socialism. Paul S. Adler, a leading business and management expert, argues that to overcome these crises we need to assert control over economic affairs through social ownership and democratic management of companies as well as thenational economy. He draws on a surprising source of inspiration: the strategic management techniques of large corporations. He shows how leading companies have designed and implemented strategies that involve and empower workers, enhance engagement and motivation, increase innovation, and areenvironmentally and socially sustainable. The principles are scalable - because they work in large corporations with thousands of people, they can work at local, regional, and national scales.Standing in the way? Private ownership of society's productive resources, the foundation of capitalism's ruthless competition and focus on individual gain at the cost of society, the environment, and future generations. Adler shows how socialize public ownership will merge individual and socialgoals through the democratic involvement of all people in deciding what the future will be-both political and economic, both local and global. The needs of people and the planet will guide decisions about investment and production, rather than the pursuit of profit. Public planning forums at theenterprise, regional, and national levels will democratically decide goals, instead of being the prerogative of CEOs doing the bidding of investors.Democratic socialism is not a leap into the entirely unknown, Adler shows. Capitalist industry has built the foundations for democratic socialism.

Book Economic Calculation in the Socialist Commonwealth

Download or read book Economic Calculation in the Socialist Commonwealth written by and published by Ludwig von Mises Institute. This book was released on 1990 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the essay that overthrew the socialist paradigm in economics, and provided the foundation for modern Austrian price theory. When it first appeared in 1920, Mises was alone in challenging the socialists to explain how their pricing system would actually work in practice. Mises proved that socialism could not work because it could not distinguish more or less valuable uses of social resources, and predicted the system would end in chaos. The result of his proof was the two-decade-long "socialist calculation" debate. This new edition contains an afterword by Joseph Salerno, who applies the calculation argument to contemporary problems like environmentalism and business regulation. "The significance of Misess 1920 article extends far beyond its devastating demonstration of the impossibility of socialist economy and society. It provides the rationale for the price system, purely free markets, the security of private property against all encroachments, and sound money. Its thesis will continue to be relevant as long as economists and policy-makers want to understand why even minor government economic interventions consistently fail to achieve socially beneficial results. "Economic Calculation in the Socialist Commonwealth" surely ranks among the most important economic articles written this century." -Joseph T. Salerno, from the afterword

Book The Socialist Temptation

Download or read book The Socialist Temptation written by Iain Murray and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2020-07-28 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: IT'S BACK! Just thirty years ago, socialism seemed utterly discredited. An economic, moral, and political failure, socialism had rightly been thrown on the ash heap of history after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Unfortunately, bad ideas never truly go away—and socialism has come back with a vengeance. A generation of young people who don’t remember the misery that socialism inflicted on Russia and Eastern Europe is embracing it all over again. Oblivious to the unexampled prosperity capitalism has showered upon them, they are demanding utopia. In his provocative new book, The Socialist Temptation, Iain Murray of the Competitive Enterprise Institute explains: Why the socialist temptation is suddenly so powerful among young people That even when socialism doesn’t usher in a bloody tyranny (as, for example, in the Soviet Union, China, and Venezuela), it still makes everyone poor and miserable Why under the relatively benign democractic socialism of Murray's youth in pre-Thatcher Britain, he had to do his homework by candlelight That the Scandinavian economies are not really socialist at all The inconsistencies in socialist thought that prevent it from ever working in practice How we can show young people the sorry truth about socialism and turn the tide of history against this destructive pipe dream Sprightly, convincing, and original, The Socialist Temptation is a powerful warning that the resurgence of socialism could rob us of our freedom and prosperity.

Download or read book Creating the New Man written by Yinghong Cheng and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2008-12-31 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of eliminating undesirable traits from human temperament to create a "new man" has been part of moral and political thinking worldwide for millennia. During the Enlightenment, European philosophers sought to construct an ideological framework for reshaping human nature. But it was only among the communist regimes of the twentieth century that such ideas were actually put into practice on a nationwide scale. In this book Yinghong Cheng examines three culturally diverse sociopolitical experiments—the Soviet Union under Lenin and Stalin, China under Mao, and Cuba under Castro—in an attempt to better understand the origins and development of the "new man." The book’s fundamental concerns are how these communist revolutions strove to create a new, morally and psychologically superior, human being and how this task paralleled efforts to create a superior society. To these ends, it addresses a number of questions: What are the intellectual roots of the new man concept? How was this idealistic and utopian goal linked to specific political and economic programs? How do the policies of these particular regimes, based as they are on universal communist ideology, reflect national and cultural traditions? Cheng begins by exploring the origins of the idea of human perfectibility during the Enlightenment. His discussion moves to other European intellectual movements, and then to the creation of the Soviet Man, the first communist new man in world history. Subsequent chapters examine China’s experiment with human nature, starting with the nationalistic debate about a new national character at the turn of the twentieth century; and Cuban perceptions of the new man and his role in propelling the revolution from a nationalist, to a socialist, and finally a communist movement. The last chapter considers the global influence of the Soviet, Chinese, and Cuban experiments. Creating the "New Man" contributes greatly to our understanding of how three very different countries and their leaders carried out problematic and controversial visions and programs. It will be of special interest to students and scholars of world history and intellectual, social, and revolutionary history, and also development studies and philosophy.
