Book Stark s Conjectures Recent Work and New Directions

Download or read book Stark s Conjectures Recent Work and New Directions written by David Burns and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2004 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stark's conjectures on the behavior of USDLUSD-functions were formulated in the 1970s. Since then, these conjectures and their generalizations have been actively investigated. This has led to significant progress in algebraic number theory. The current volume, based on the conference held at Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD), represents the state-of-the-art research in this area. The first four survey papers provide an introduction to a majority of the recent work related to themes currently under exploration in the area, such as non-abelian and USDpUSD-adic aspects of the conjectures, abelian refinements, etc. Among others, some important contributors to the volume include Harold M. Stark, John Tate, and interested in number theory.

Book excerpt: These Proceedings contain 22 refereed research and survey articles based on lectures given at the Turku Symposium on Number Theory in Memory of Kustaa Inkeri, held in Turku, Finland, from May 31 to June 4, 1999. The subject of the symposium was number theory in a broad sense with an emphasis on recent advances and modern methods. The topics covered in this volume include various questions in elementary number theory, new developments in classical Diophantine problems - in particular of the Fermat and Catalan type, the ABC-conjecture, arithmetic algebraic geometry, elliptic curves, Diophantine approximations, Abelian fields, exponential sums, sieve methods, box splines, the Riemann zeta-function and other Dirichlet series, and the spectral theory of automorphic functions with its arithmetical applications.

Book L Functions and Automorphic Forms

Download or read book L Functions and Automorphic Forms written by Jan Hendrik Bruinier and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-02-22 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a collection of carefully refereed research articles and lecture notes stemming from the Conference "Automorphic Forms and L-Functions", held at the University of Heidelberg in 2016. The theory of automorphic forms and their associated L-functions is one of the central research areas in modern number theory, linking number theory, arithmetic geometry, representation theory, and complex analysis in many profound ways. The 19 papers cover a wide range of topics within the scope of the conference, including automorphic L-functions and their special values, p-adic modular forms, Eisenstein series, Borcherds products, automorphic periods, and many more.

This book was released on 2006 with total page 840 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is dedicated to Professor John H. Coates, an outstanding contributor to number theory, both through his pioneering and fundamental mathematical works and through the magnificent mathematical school he has established. It contains 24 articles written by 38 authors on a wide range of topics in the cutting edge of research in number theory, algebraic geometry and analysis: zeta functions and $L$-functions, automorphic and modularity issues, Galois representations, arithmetic of elliptic curves, Iwasawa theory, noncommutative Iwasawa theory, and $p$-adic analysis. This volume will be of interest to researchers and students in these and neighboring fields. Information for our distributors: A publication of the Documenta Mathematica. The AMS distributes this series, beginning with volume 3, in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Book Rational Points on Modular Elliptic Curves

Download or read book Rational Points on Modular Elliptic Curves written by Henri Darmon and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2004 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book surveys some recent developments in the arithmetic of modular elliptic curves. It places a special emphasis on the construction of rational points on elliptic curves, the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture, and the crucial role played by modularity in shedding light on these two closely related issues. The main theme of the book is the theory of complex multiplication, Heegner points, and some conjectural variants. The first three chapters introduce the background and prerequisites: elliptic curves, modular forms and the Shimura-Taniyama-Weil conjecture, complex multiplication and the Heegner point construction. The next three chapters introduce variants of modular parametrizations in which modular curves are replaced by Shimura curves attached to certain indefinite quaternion algebras. The main new contributions are found in Chapters 7-9, which survey the author's attempts to extend the theory of Heegner points and complex multiplication to situations where the base field is not a CM field. Chapter 10 explains the proof of Kolyvagin's theorem, which relates Heegner points to the arithmetic of elliptic curves and leads to the best evidence so far for the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture.

Book Agricultural Cooperatives In Transition

Download or read book Agricultural Cooperatives In Transition written by Csaba Csaki and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-28 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1993, this is a study of agricultural co-operatives. The farming structure in transition countries has shifted from dominance of large corporate farms to family smallholdings. Smallholders everywhere experience difficulties with access to market services, including sale of products, purchase of inputs, and acquisition of machinery; they suffer from credit shortages and have limited access to information and advisory services. The barriers to market access prevent smallholders from fully exploiting their inherent productivity advantages. Best-practice world experience highlights farmers' service cooperatives, created by grassroots users, as the most effective way of improving the market access of small farmers. Service cooperatives also help smallholders overcome market failures, when private business entrepreneurs are unwilling to provide services in areas that they judge unprofitable or unfairly exploit users through monopolistic practices. These difficulties and market failures are prominent in transition countries and scholars accordingly expected rapid development of agricultural service cooperatives in response to smallholder needs. The present volume explores gaps between expectations and reality.
