Book New Sensor for Measurement of Low Air Flow Velocity

Download or read book New Sensor for Measurement of Low Air Flow Velocity written by H. M. Hashemian and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2014-06-13 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides key results of a six-month feasibility study to develop and test a new sensor that measures ambient air flow velocity and direction for health physics applications in nuclear facilities. Using a conventional thermocouple as its sensing element, the sensor developed in this study enables nuclear facilities to determine where to place air samplers to sample airborne radioactive material that radiation workers might inhale. The authors demonstrate that thermocouple flow sensors can be used successfully to measure low air flow rates that cannot be measured with conventional flow sensors.

Book New Sensor for Measurement of Low Air Flow Velocity Phase I Final Report

Download or read book New Sensor for Measurement of Low Air Flow Velocity Phase I Final Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The project described here is the Phase I feasibility study of a two-phase program to integrate existing technologies to provide a system for determining air flow velocity and direction in radiation work areas. Basically, a low air flow sensor referred to as a thermocouple flow sensor has been developed. The sensor uses a thermocouple as its sensing element. The response time of the thermocouple is measured using an existing in-situ method called the Loop Current Step Response (LCSR) test. The response time results are then converted to a flow signal using a response time-versus-flow correlation. The Phase I effort has shown that a strong correlation exists between the response time of small diameter thermocouples and the ambient flow rate. As such, it has been demonstrated that thermocouple flow sensors can be used successfully to measure low air flow rates that can not be measured with conventional flow sensors. While the thermocouple flow sensor developed in this project was very successful in determining air flow velocity, determining air flow direction was beyond the scope of the Phase I project. Nevertheless, work was performed during Phase I to determine how the new flow sensor can be used to determine the direction, as well as the velocity, of ambient air movements. Basically, it is necessary to use either multiple flow sensors or move a single sensor in the monitoring area and make flow measurements at various locations sweeping the area from top to bottom and from left to right. The results can then be used with empirical or physical models, or in terms of directional vectors to estimate air flow patterns. The measurements can be made continuously or periodically to update the flow patterns as they change when people and objects are moved in the monitoring area. The potential for using multiple thermocouple flow sensors for determining air flow patterns will be examined in Phase II.

Install the program to run Arduino and check how to use the library to be used for practice, and you are ready! Practice: Measuring the pollutants that harm your body From simple temperature and humidity to fine dust, ultraviolet rays, formaldehyde, and radiation, we will cover 18 sensors that can measure air pollutants and atmospheric conditions that affect the human body. We will explore the specifications, features, and operating principles of each sensor and connect them with Arduino to accurately measure the value. One more step!: Take on a sensor project If you have studied how each sensor works and measured the air environment around you, you can now apply the sensor to various projects. In this book, we will make a simple ‘fine dust & temperature and humidity meter' and use LCD, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and RF communication to display the results of the project.

Book Analytical Methods in Petroleum Upstream Applications

Download or read book Analytical Methods in Petroleum Upstream Applications written by Cesar Ovalles and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2015-04-02 with total page 2054 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Effective measurement of the composition and properties of petroleum is essential for its exploration, production, and refining; however, new technologies and methodologies are not adequately documented in much of the current literature. Analytical Methods in Petroleum Upstream Applications explores advances in the analytical methods and instrumentation that allow more accurate determination of the components, classes of compounds, properties, and features of petroleum and its fractions. Recognized experts explore a host of topics, including: A petroleum molecular composition continuity model as a context for other analytical measurements A modern modular sampling system for use in the lab or the process area to collect and control samples for subsequent analysis The importance of oil-in-water measurements and monitoring The chemical and physical properties of heavy oils, their fractions, and products from their upgrading Analytical measurements using gas chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) applications Asphaltene and heavy ends analysis Chemometrics and modeling approaches for understanding petroleum composition and properties to improve upstream, midstream, and downstream operations Due to the renaissance of gas and oil production in North America, interest has grown in analytical methods for a wide range of applications. The understanding provided in this text is designed to help chemists, geologists, and chemical and petroleum engineers make more accurate estimates of the crude value to specific refinery configurations, providing insight into optimum development and extraction schemes.

Book Wind Tunnel and Laboratory Calibration of Balloon borne Wind Sensors

Download or read book Wind Tunnel and Laboratory Calibration of Balloon borne Wind Sensors written by J. H. Brown and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two-low speed wind sensors have been calibrated for measuring the wind speed at an instrument suspended below stratospheric balloons. The low Reynolds number environment was duplicated at the NASA/Ames low-speed MARSWIT wind-tunnel facility, and in a laboratory bell jar. The two new instruments are the time-of-flight instrument that measures the motion of an ion cloud through an open pipe, and the corona anemometer that measures the displacement of an ion beam transversing the air-stream flowing between two plates. The calibrations consist of placing the instruments in a flow stream, and relating the instrument output to the flow-stream velocity. The laboratory calibration is easy to conduct, but is limited to a measurement of internal flow velocity. The wind-tunnel calibration is performed to relate laboratory calibration to freestream conditions. (Author).
