Book Achievements prospects and challenges of hemispheric cooperation Occasional Paper ITD Documento de Divulgaci n ITD n 38

Download or read book Achievements prospects and challenges of hemispheric cooperation Occasional Paper ITD Documento de Divulgaci n ITD n 38 written by and published by BID-INTAL. This book was released on 2006 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The greater openness of developing countries' economies and the free trade agreements negotiated in recent years have spurred arguments in favor of greater integration in the world; they have also given rise to strong opposition. In some cases the opposition stems from the reaction of specific, domestically oriented sectoral interests, and in others from the activism of groups adhering to what has been termed "globophobia". Regrettably, the implementation of the Hemispheric Cooperation Program (HCP) has been constrained by the paralysis of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) negotiations, and thus has been extremely slow. Although the future of the HCP process is unclear, the experience to date in the Hemisphere provides a sufficient basis to analyze its origin and peculiarities, as well as its chief difficulties and determinants. The bilateral negotiations between the United States and Central America, the Dominican Republic and the Andean countries also provide important input for the analysis in this study, and the lessons learned can be very helpful to ensuring the successful implementation of the HCP.

Book Research Directions Challenges and Achievements of Modern Geography

Download or read book Research Directions Challenges and Achievements of Modern Geography written by Jerzy Bański and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-01 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book identifies and discusses research directions, challenges and achievements in contemporary geography. It also documents the most current theoretical and methodological considerations undertaken by scientists representing various sub-disciplines of geography with particular reference to human geography. It was assumed that the thematic structure of the currently active International Geographical Union (IGU) problem commissions corresponds to the most relevant and current research directions in geography. Reflecting this assumption, the book consists of 14 chapters contributed by geographers representing 14 problem commissions of the IGU, which allows us to examine geography from different perspectives and to provide the reader with a complete overview of contemporary research issues in human geography. The first part discusses contemporary research problems and issues related to scientific methodology and achievements of selected geographical sub-disciplines, including urban geography, agricultural geography, transport geography, and political geography, among others. The second part focuses on the interdisciplinarity of geography and the topics of global dimension undertaken by geographers such as global change, GIS and geospatial technology, marginalization, and environmental change. This part also discusses the internal relations between geographical specializations and their links with other related sciences, including geology, sociology, and economics. The third part discusses the holistic approaches of geography applied to particular regions, territories, or conditions (Africa, costal systems, geomorphology and local development).

Book International Law Achievements and Prospects

Download or read book International Law Achievements and Prospects written by Federico Mayor and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-12-28 with total page 1336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The arrival of the International Law: Achievements and Prospects can fairly be described as a major event in international legal publishing. It has been written by international lawyers from the North, the South, the East and the West, whose differing origins and different, or even opposed, academic backgrounds have ensured that the book encapsulates and brings into focus `the main forms of civilization' and `the principal legal systems of the world'. The book's most distinctive feature is its international, multi-cultural and polyphonic nature. International Law: Achievements and Prospects aims to inform and to educate, to make the discipline of international law accessible to a very broad public, and to promote a meeting of minds on fundamental notions, key concepts, and the guiding principles of international law, over and beyond frontiers, ideologies and doctrines. In addition, it is intended to provide a framework for thought, to describe what international law is today, to specify its nature, define its purpose and show its strengths, and also to point out its weaknesses. All the contributing authors are or have been practitioners of international law. Their contributions express a global view of international law which helps to unravel the complex reality of the contemporary world. International Law: Achievements and Prospects has been produced under the auspices of UNESCO; its content also aspires to reflect, in some measure, the imprint of that Organization's sponsorship.
