Book CDF Searches for New Phenomena

Download or read book CDF Searches for New Phenomena written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present results of recent searches for new physics using the CDF detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. Presented are searches for Higgs →??, as well as more general searches in?? + X where X is /E{sub T}, jets, charged leptons, b-quarks or extra photons. The CDF ee??/E{sub T} candidate event is discussed along with estimates of the expected rates in the Standard Model. Other searches for SUSY, Higgs and Technicolor look for particles which decay to vector bosons and b-quarks.

Book Search for New Phenomena with the CDF Detector

Download or read book Search for New Phenomena with the CDF Detector written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present the results of the searches for new phenomena in pp collisions at[radical]s=1.8 TeV with the CDF detector using the full data sample of 110 pb[sup -1] collected between 1992 and 1995. We have searched for new physics in events with two photons, testing some of the hypotheses proposed to explain the appearance of the CDF ee[gamma][gamma] E[sub T] event. New results on the search for a heavy neutral scalar object, charged Higgs bosons (H[sup[+-]]) and the scalar top quark are presented. Finally we summarize the CDF results on the search for third generation leptoquarks.

Book Searches for New Phenomena at CDF

Download or read book Searches for New Phenomena at CDF written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present recent results of searches for new physics in 110 pb{sup - 1} of p{anti p} collisions at √s = 1800 GeV using the CDF detector. Presented are searches for third generation leptoquarks, charged and neutral Higgs bosons and the supersymmetric partner of the top quark ({tilde t}). A search for new physics in diphoton events tests some models attempting to explain the CDF è̀e??E{sub T} ̀̀event. Finding no signal in any of these channels, production limits are presented.

Book Anomaly Collider Physics And The Quest For New Phenomena At Fermilab

Download or read book Anomaly Collider Physics And The Quest For New Phenomena At Fermilab written by Tommaso Dorigo and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2016-09-26 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Dorigo provides an engaging and insightful perspective on the pursuit of physics discoveries at CDF … Dorigo’s book is thus almost certainly going to be an important source for anyone interested in the history of CDF … It is a personal yet highly informative story of discovery and almost-discovery from the perspective of someone who saw the events firsthand.'Physics TodayFrom the mid-1980s, an international collaboration of 600 physicists embarked on the investigation of subnuclear physics at the high-energy frontier. As well as discovering the top quark, the heaviest elementary particle ever observed, the physicists analyzed their data to seek signals of new physics which could revolutionize our understanding of nature.Anomaly! tells the story of that quest, and focuses specifically on the finding of several unexplained effects which were unearthed in the process. These anomalies proved highly controversial within the large team: to some collaborators they called for immediate publication, while to others their divulgation threatened to jeopardize the reputation of the experiment.Written in a confidential, narrative style, this book looks at the sociology of a large scientific collaboration, providing insight in the relationships between top physicists at the turn of the millennium. The stories offer an insider's view of the life cycle of the 'failed' discoveries that unavoidably accompany even the greatest endeavors in modern particle physics.

Book Search for New Phenomena in the CDF Top Quark Sample

Download or read book Search for New Phenomena in the CDF Top Quark Sample written by Kevin Lannon and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present recent results from CDF in the search for new phenomena appearing in the top quark samples. These results use data from p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity ranging from 195 pb{sup -1} to 760 pb{sup -1}. No deviations are observed from the Standard Model expectations, so upper limits on the size of possible new phenomena are set.

Book excerpt: This paper summarizes results of recent searches for new phenomena with the CDF and D0 detectors at the Fermilab Tevatron. All results shown correspond to analysis from the past Run I data corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of (approximately) 100 pb−1 per experiment. In particular, the authors show new results from stop quark searches, neutral supersymmetric Higgs boson searches, a reinterpretation of the CDF second and third generation leptoquark searches in terms of leptoquark resonant production through technicolor interactions and, finally, they report a new D0 search for large extra space dimensions from high mass Drell-Yan dielectron and diphoton events.

Book New Particle Searches at CDF

Download or read book New Particle Searches at CDF written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the fundamental roles of a general purpose detector exploring, by means of increasing luminosity, higher and higher mass reach, is to search for new particles and exotic phenomena. This is a continuing effort for the CDF collaboration, and will report on several searches using about 20 pb−1 from the 1992/93 run labelled {open_quotes}run 1a{close_quotes} and (approximately)50 of the 90 pb−1 so far from the current {open_quotes}run 1b.{close_quotes} These are mostly preliminary analyses, typically using a total of 70 pb−1. Our limits on SUSY using missing E{sub T} with jets as well as three leptons are discussed elsewhere; results from the D0 collaboration are similar. I will discuss searches for additional vector bosons Z(prime) and W(prime), second generation scalar leptoquarks, as well as a broad search for objects decaying into jet pairs, including b-tagged jet pairs. I will also describe two events which do not fit in comfortably with either the standard model or a phenomenologically motivated search.

Book Searches for Dijet Resonances

Download or read book Searches for Dijet Resonances written by Lydia Audrey Beresford and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-04 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses one of the most intriguing mysteries of our universe: the nature of dark matter. The results presented here mark a significant and substantial contribution to the search for new physics, in particular for new particles that couple to dark matter. The first analysis presented is a search for heavy new particles that decay into pairs of hadronic jets (dijets). This pioneering analysis explores unprecedented dijet invariant masses, reaching nearly 7 TeV, and sets constraints on several important new physics models. The two subsequent analyses focus on the difficult low dijet mass region, down to 200 GeV, and employ a novel technique to efficiently gather low-mass dijet events. The results of these analyses transcend the long-standing constraints on dark matter mediator particles set by several existing experiments.
