Book New Perspective and Insights on Business Model Innovation using Systems Thinking and Action Case Studies

Download or read book New Perspective and Insights on Business Model Innovation using Systems Thinking and Action Case Studies written by Bastian Halecker and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2016-07-07 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 20th century, the dominance of firms in a market was based mainly on scale and large resources (George & Bock 2011). In contrast, firm success in the 21st century is influenced less by arguments about economies of scale in production and distribution (McQuivey 2013; Jin Zhang et al. 2015). It has become more important to explore novel ways of engaging customers and getting them to pay (Baden-Fuller & Mangematin 2015). This is the age of the customer, and customers alone dominate the purpose of business (e.g., Morris et al. 2005; Johnson et al. 2008).

Papers included in this book apply inter- and multi-disciplinary approaches to query such issues as technology-enhanced teaching and learning, smart cities, information systems, cognitive computing and social networking. What brings these threads of the discussion together is the question of how advances in computer science – which are otherwise largely incomprehensible to researchers from other fields – can be effectively translated and capitalized on so as to make them beneficial for society as a whole. In this context, Rii Forum and Rii Forum proceedings offer an essential venue where diverse stakeholders, including academics, the think tank sector and decision-makers, can engage in a meaningful dialogue with a view to improving the applicability of advances in computer science.

Book How Can Systems Thinking Add Value to Business Model Innovation

Download or read book How Can Systems Thinking Add Value to Business Model Innovation written by Bastian Halecker and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systems thinking (ST) is a powerful way of thinking that is being revitalized in several economic fields in order to discover new answers to current challenges and to support a deeper understanding of business. As part of this revitalization, it makes sense to apply systems thinking to business model innovation, as the process of business model innovation requires more than merely filling a business model canvas, it is a challenging and complex management task. We have reviewed the literature on systems theory and business models to identify a way to combine both 'theories' in order to gain new insights and identify value for business model innovation. We then selected one appropriate ST approach, applying it to a case example. Our results demonstrate that the application of ST to business model innovation is valuable for both academia and practice.

Book The Business Model Innovation Process

Download or read book The Business Model Innovation Process written by Yariv Taran and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-21 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Business Model Innovation Process: Preparation, Organization and Management examines a range of critical questions that merit thoughtful interdisciplinary consideration, such as: Why do business models, and their innovation in particular, matter today? How can the process of business model innovation be understood, organized and managed adequately under increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous technological, business and geo-political conditions? What should decision-making and risk-management look like under these conditions, with managers whose rationality is bounded? The book offers a detailed account of the relatively unknown process of business model innovation by looking into the intersection of strategic, operations and innovation management, organizational design, decision-making and performance management. In doing so, this book addresses fundamental issues, and introduces new ideas and theoretical perspectives. In envisioning and thinking about various potential scenarios of business model innovation and understanding how to organize for each of these under different conditions, the book provides original arguments and suggestions for practitioners. For that purpose, the book also offers many compelling real-life examples of business models and their innovation. Combining theory and practice, this book is an essential read for researchers and academics of business model innovation, as well as strategic management, digital transformation, innovation management and organizational change. It will also be of direct interest to practitioners and business leaders seeking new perspectives to increase their competitive advantage.

Book Business Models for Sustainability

Download or read book Business Models for Sustainability written by Peter E. Wells and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Business Models for Sustainability breaks new ground by combining three important insights. First, achieving sustainability requires socio-technical transitions that entail new technologies, production processes, lifestyles, and consumption patterns. Second, firms play crucial roles in mediating between sustainable production and consumption. Third, radical innovations require organizational innovations and new business models. Peter Wells successfully combines these big picture ideas with rich in-depth case studies drawing on years of accumulated expertise. Highly recommended. Frank W. Geels, University of Manchester, UK and Chairman of the Sustainability Transitions Research Network With increasing awareness that innovative technology alone is insufficient to make sustainable lifestyles a reality, this book brings into sharp focus the need to create radical new business models. This insightful book provides a theoretically grounded but also realistic account of how the design of business models can be a critical component in the overall transition to sustainability, and one that transcends the usual focus on innovative technology. Weaving together key principles and components for business sustainability, the book highlights five very different pathways to the future for sectors ranging from microbreweries and printing through to clothing, mobility and plastics. Business has only just started the first few tentative steps towards a very different approach to creating and sustaining value, but this book concludes that enormous opportunities will emerge alongside new ways of creating and capturing value. Academics and postgraduate students in the fields of sustainable business, business organisations and industrial ecology will find this book brings a greater understanding of business strategy and structure to the discipline. While traditionally referenced and structured, this academic book is accessibly written with key principles that may also appeal to the consultant community.

Book Business Model Innovation

Download or read book Business Model Innovation written by Constantinos Markides and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2023-06-29 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital technologies have allowed for the proliferation of new business models, something that has attracted the attention of academic research. Much of this research has focused on (i) understanding what a business model is and its theoretical connection to the concept of strategy, and (ii) exploring what business model innovation is and what its sources and outcomes are. Less work has gone into studying the issues that established firms face in business model innovation – such as how to respond to the arrival of a disruptive business model in one's industry, or how to compete with dual business models or how to migrate from one business model to another. This Element approaches the topic of business model innovation from the perspective of the established firm and examines the unique strategic and organizational issues that big, established companies face when a new business model enters their markets.

Book Business Model Innovation as a Dynamic Capability

Download or read book Business Model Innovation as a Dynamic Capability written by Marc Sniukas and published by Springer. This book was released on 2021-07-23 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study adopts a dynamic capabilities perspective to explore the activities and processes through which business model innovations arise in established organisations. New and innovative business models are fundamental to the commercialisation of the latest technologies, performance, and competitive advantage, as well as value creation for customers, the focal company and its ecosystem. Yet, our current understanding of how established companies design and implement new business models is limited by a lack of empirical research. Based on a review of relevant literature, business model innovation is presented and explored as a dynamic capability. The book subsequently uses proven methodologies to gather and analyse data from five case studies in the manufacturing, financial services, media, consulting, and healthcare industries. The framework developed here offers a novel understanding of how business model innovations come about in established organisations, a practice it dubs ‘crafting business models in statu nascendi’.

Book Examining Business Model Innovation Through a Case Study of a Firm

Download or read book Examining Business Model Innovation Through a Case Study of a Firm written by Kevin Michael Pettersen and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A business model can provide a clear framework for how a company delivers value to its customers. The better the business model is understood, the greater the ability for the company to understand how to improve its business to continually deliver greater value to it customers. Through the process of business model innovation, companies can transform their success by delivering customer value in an entirely different way. As such, understanding business model innovation is considered critical for transformational and sustained growth of a company. Business model innovation, however, is a fairly new concept and understanding how it actually occurs in practice is rare. This project offers a unique first-hand insight (i.e. autoethnography) into the process of how business model innovation occurs in a firm (Tesera Systems Inc.) over a long period of time (~7 years) and continues to evolve. This project shows that the actual experience of Tesera relates very well to the theories and concepts of business model innovation (i.e. framework, drivers/needs of business model innovation, typology, ontologies) and benefits (i.e. improvements in agility, resource velocity, cost structures). In addition, this project offers learning perspectives from this business model innovation experience (i.e. crisis as opportunity, value gained from understanding implicit business model innovation, the importance of a constructionist ontology, business model innovation to guide business processes externally and internally). As such, this project helps to provide value to both the theoretical and conceptual perspectives regarding business model innovation as well as those who in business are looking to better understand business model innovation from a practical experience to provide their firms the opportunity for transformational change and sustained success."--P. ii.

Book Scenarios for Success

Download or read book Scenarios for Success written by Bill Sharpe and published by Wiley. This book was released on 2008-07-31 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Properly researched and intelligently deployed, scenario planning is today’s most powerful tool for understanding and preparing for an uncertain future. Yet it remains a niche approach, poorly understood by leaders at large. To bring it into the strategy mainstream, leaders need advice on how to turn concepts (scenarios) into actions (strategy). Scenarios for Success delivers a unique and coherent account of the state of the scenario planning art. It is aimed particularly at those trying to implement its findings. Striking a balance between theory and practice, the contributors show how and why the core techniques of scenario thinking have endured and are still valuable, while bringing new tools and processes that keep scenario planning in touch with modern realities.
