Book Radiation Gas Dynamics

Download or read book Radiation Gas Dynamics written by Shih-I. Pai and published by Springer. This book was released on 1966 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the temperature of a gas is not too high and the density of a gas is not too low, the transfer of heat by radiation is usually negligibly small in comparison with that by conduction and convection. However, in the hypersonic flow of space flight, particularly in the re-entry of a space vehicle, and in the flow problem involving nuclear reaction such as in the blast wave of nuclear bomb or in the peaceful use of the controlled fusion reaction, the temperature of the gas may be very high and the density of the gas may be very low. As a result, thermal radiation becomes a very important mode of heat transfer. A complete analysis of such high temperature flow fields should be based upon a study of the gasdynamic field and the radiation field simultaneously. Hence during the last few years, considerable efforts have been made to study such interaction problems between gasdynamic field and radiation field and a new title, Radiation Gasdynamics, has been suggested for this subject. Even though radiative transfer has been studied for a long time by astro physicists, the interaction between the radiation field and the gadsynamic field has been only extensively studied recently.

Download or read book Rarefied Gas Dynamics written by Carlo Cercignani and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-02-28 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to present the concepts, methods and applications of kinetic theory to rarefied gas dynamics. After introducing the basic tools, problems in plane geometry are treated using approximation techniques (perturbation and numerical methods). These same techniques are later used to deal with two- and three-dimensional problems. The models include not only monatomic but also polyatomic gases, mixtures, chemical reactions. A special chapter is devoted to evaporation and condensation phenomena. Each section is accompanied by problems which are mainly intended to demonstrate the use of the material in the text and to outline additional subjects, results and equations. This will help ensure that the book can be used for a range of graduate courses in aerospace engineering or applied mathematics.

Book Transport Simulation in Microelectronics

Download or read book Transport Simulation in Microelectronics written by Alfred Kersch and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer simulation of semiconductor processing equipment and devices requires the use of a wide variety of numerical methods. Of these methods, the Monte Carlo approach is perhaps most fundamentally suited to mod eling physical events occurring on microscopic scales which are intricately connected to the particle structure of nature. Here physical phenomena can be simulated by following simulation particles (such as electrons, molecules, photons, etc. ) through a statistical sampling of scattering events. Monte Carlo is, however, generally looked on as a last resort due to the extremely slow convergence of these methods. It is of interest, then, to examine when in microelectronics it is necessary to use Monte Carlo methods, how such methods may be improved, and what are the alternatives. This book ad dresses three general areas of simulation which frequently arise in semicon ductor modeling where Monte Carlo methods playa significant role. In the first chapter the basic mathematical theory of the Boltzmann equation for particle transport is presented. The following chapters are devoted to the modeling of the transport processes and the associated Monte Carlo meth ods. Specific examples of industrial applications illustrate the effectiveness and importance of these methods. Two of these areas concern simulation of physical particles which may be assigned a time dependent position and velocity. This includes the molecules of a dilute gas used in such processing equipment as chemi cal vapor decomposition reactors and sputtering reactors. We also consider charged particles moving within a semiconductor lattice.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last half century, the development and testing of prediction models of combustion chamber performance have been an ongoing task at the International Flame Research Foundation (IFRF) in IJmuiden in the Netherlands and at many other research organizations. This task has brought forth a hierarchy of more or less standard numerical models for heat transfer predictions, in particular for the prediction of radiative heat transfer. Unfortunately all the methods developed, which certainly have a good physical foundation, are based on a large number of extreme sim plifications or uncontrolled assumptions. To date, the ever more stringent requirements for efficient production and use of energy and heat from com bustion chambers call for prediction algorithms of higher accuracy and more detailed radiative heat transfer calculations. The driving forces behind this are advanced technology requirements, the costs of large-scale experimen tal work, and the limitation of physical modeling. This interest is growing more acute and has increased the need for the publication of a textbook for more accurate treatment of radiative transfer in enclosures. The writing of a textbook on radiative heat transfer, however, in ad dition to working regularly on other subjects is a rather difficult task for which some years of meditation are necessary. The book must satisfy two requirements which are not easily reconciled. From the mathematical point of view, it must be written in accordance with standards of mathemati cal rigor and precision.

Book Self consistent Solution of Nonlinear Problems in Unsteady Radiation Gasdynamics

Download or read book Self consistent Solution of Nonlinear Problems in Unsteady Radiation Gasdynamics written by David Finkleman and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is shown that the system of equations which governs the unsteady flow of a radiating gas in chemical nonequilibrium is hyperbolic, and standard methods are applied to the solution of situations in radiation gasdynamics (RGD) which are restricted neither in optical depth nor the radiation-convection parameter. Absorption of shock layer radiation by the upstream gas is included in a numerical method of characteristics, and it is proved that only a Mark-type radiation boundary condition is appropriate to the lowest order full-range differential approximation of one-dimensional radiative fields. To illustrate the method, the flow fields generated by planar and cylindrical pistons inserted into ideal gases with arbitrary absorption properties are investigated both with the differential approximation and the full transfer equation. The results obtained are believed to be the first in a realistic aerodynamic situation and show that the differential approximation predicts surface pressures and heat transfer rates very accurately and general flow fields within ten percent for the cases considered. It was found that linearized theories of piston insertions may be in error near the start of motion. In addition, nonmonotonic (entropy layer induced) surface pressure histories were noted, and it is observed that variable surface emissivity and wall temperature may exert 'blowing' or 'suction' upon entropy layers. Upstream absorption is shown to be a dominant mechanism in the evolution of unsteady flow fields, and contrary to previous predictions it is shown that the effects of radiation upon pressure and velocity may be comparable to those upon temperature in many cases.
