Download or read book Lord of New Venus written by James Hendershot and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2013-09 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lilith, the former Queen of the Evil Spirits, completed her penance on the old Earth and is now eagerly awaiting a chance to finish her first assignment for the King of Good. This god gives her a new planet named New Venus, ready to be settled by life. Events start turbulent and get even brutal. The first man, Job, and woman, Jezebel, both die, leaving a young daughter called Eve to be the mother of, yet again, another world. The Lord eventually takes a rib from Eve and creates Aman, hoping to ward off the catastrophe that destroyed Eve's first world, Earth. Unfortunately, Lilith's past comes back to haunt her and wars, not only with evil empires but also with gods from other realities, spill blood throughout war-torn New Venus. Belcher, son of Eve, is cast from the garden and, being cursed, must struggle to celebrate his life, unknowingly marries the mother of evil, Rubina who gives him many children, most evil, yet two defy all odds and become great saints. Her daughter, Tianshire, saves New Venus from her clutches. Nevertheless, another of Eve's sons, Dawedu, in anger takes his wife and many followers from Eden because the Lord appointed his nephew the leader of the Garden when his father passed away. Dawedu, after wrongly killing his first wife, pulls New Venus into the divesting realm of a goddess from another reality, forcing heaven to fight the greatest battle, trying to save our universe.

Download or read book Gods and Goddesses in the Garden written by Peter Bernhardt and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2008 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zeus, Medusa, Hercules, Aphrodite. Did you know that these and other dynamic deities, heroes, and monsters of Greek and Roman mythology live on in the names of trees and flowers? Some grow in your local woodlands or right in your own backyard garden. In this delightful book, botanist Peter Bernhardt reveals the rich history and mythology that underlie the origins of many scientific plant names. Unlike other books about botanical taxonomy that take the form of heavy and intimidating lexicons, Bernhardt's account comes together in a series of interlocking stories. Each chapter opens with a short version of a classical myth, then links the tale to plant names, showing how each plant "resembles" its mythological counterpart with regard to its history, anatomy, life cycle, and conservation. You will learn, for example, that as our garden acanthus wears nasty spines along its leaf margins, it is named for the nymph who scratched the face of Apollo. The shape-shifting god, Proteus, gives his name to a whole family of shrubs and trees that produce colorful flowering branches in an astonishing number of sizes and shapes. Amateur and professional gardeners, high school teachers and professors of biology, botanists and conservationists alike will appreciate this book's entertaining and informative entry to the otherwise daunting field of botanical names. Engaging, witty, and memorable, Gods and Goddesses in the Garden transcends the genre of natural history and makes taxonomy a topic equally at home in the classroom and at cocktail parties.

Written by three international experts and published in association with Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the book features concise descriptions, useful keys to the genera and species that allow for accurate identification of plants, and practical tips to successfully grow and use the plants in the landscape. Additional chapters cover the cultural history, cultivation, natural history, and distribution of the species, while a helpful glossary clarifies botanical terms. Fifty elegant line drawings and 115 vivid photographs showcase the range of brilliant colors and shapes of these botanical gems. Download or read book Women Pain and Death written by Evy Johanne Håland and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2009-10-02 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Women, Pain and Death: Rituals and Everyday-Life on the Margins of Europe and Beyond” is a cross-cultural and multidisciplinary collection of articles representing different perspectives and topics related to the general theme Women and Death from different periods and parts of Europe, as well as the Middle East and Asia, i.e. areas where, through the ages, there have been a constant interaction and discourse between a variety of people, often with different ethnic backgrounds. The studies illustrate many parallels between the various societies and religious groupings, despite of many differences, both in time and space. The theme, death, is mostly seen from what have been regarded as the geographical margins of society as well as concerning the people involved: women. Thus, the articles, most of them presenting original material from areas which are not very known for English readers, offer new perspectives on the processes of cultural changes. The collection has important ramification for current research surrounding the shaping of a “European identity”, the marketing of regional and national heritages. In connection with the present-day aim of connecting the various European heritages, and developing a vision of Europe and its constituent elements that is both global and rooted, the work has great relevance. One may also mention the new international initiative on intangible heritage, spearheaded by UNESCO.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thought of losing a loved one evokes fear. Few will admit that they think of it, fewer still want to talk about it. But bereavement is an everyday occurrence and will happen to everyone who lives long enough. Be proactive: Expected Date of Departure encourages you to prepare yourself for loss and to choose your response in advance. Action-based: Expected Date of Departure gives you permission to think about the inevitable death of loved ones, talk about it, and to plan for grief before it happens. Preparing for loss does not bring on bad luck nor does it cause fear; instead, it can make our world a more delightful place to live in. If you thought you might never get to speak to your friend again after your ongoing discussion with her, would it make any difference in the way you carry on with the conversation? Would you be more attentive, more thoughtful of the responses you give? Likely, yes. There will be more loving and caring if we relate to our loved ones with the end in mind. And if we happen to lose them, we will live on with the satisfaction that there were no unfinished businesses in our relationships. Reviews Thank you for being vulnerable and opening your heart in this way. Your book has touched on sensitive places in my heart; reading it has made me come face-to-face with my fear of losing my loved ones – to challenge that fear and begin my healing journey. - ChiChi Nwosu, Sydney, Australia Captivating, needful, and relatable. Most of us do not prepare for the departure of our loved ones if they pre-decease us. Busola has written a book that gives practical tips on how to prepare, using real-life experiences of friends and family and her own experience of losing loved ones. The book discusses death in a way that the subject does not come across as morbid. Instead, it encourages us to break the silence surrounding the issue with sensitivity, understanding, and empathy. - Ibiba Chidi, Houston, Texas This book is brilliant, It made me laugh and cry, it left me pondering many a question. Very important issues raised, and I love how much of the Word of God Busola has included. Really well written. In my head, it was just like she talking to me as I read. Busola has put a lot of herself into this book and I pray that it helps many. - Sarah Macmanus, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. An unusual slant to everyday reality. It is still a hard reality for me to face, but face it we must. Yes, we mourn the loss of loved ones, but we are not driven to despair, as we will meet again. This book inspires us to take steps to appreciate the people in our lives every day. Thank you Busola, for this push to prepare for the inevitable. - Abimbola Olufemi, Lagos, Nigeria I like Busola's boldness in confronting this matter. It's a subject that Nigerians, even Christians, avoid, with the crisp phrase 'not my portion'. Preparation will help people to set their relationships in order. - Ijeoma Okafor John-Chieme. Abuja, Nigeria I find this book to be a valuable cross-cultural resource for starting conversations around the subjects of life and death. It is rich with personal experiences and scriptural insights. It gave me the rare luxury to pause and shed a few private tears in the loving memory of my dear parents. - Semedeton Ilo, Lethbridge, Canada. Everyone goes through the problem of the fear of bereavement, but no one wants to verbalise it. I must commend Busola for her ability to capture in words those feelings that a lot of people who have experienced loss find difficult to explain. - Sunday Udoh, Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire The book is weighty but not heavy and it has given me this take home message, which is don’t live with regrets so that when the news comes of a loved one’s death, we will be able to grieve as those who have hope. I loved the cross-continents perspective (Busola is Nigerian-born, now living in the UK) that actually made the subject matter more palatable for me. - Alison Bowie, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.
