Book Study of the Decay K L Pi E Nu E E to Probe the Semileptonic K pi Structure

Download or read book Study of the Decay K L Pi E Nu E E to Probe the Semileptonic K pi Structure written by Katsushige Kotera and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors observed a new neutral kaon decay mode, K{sub L} {yields} {pi}{sup {+-}}e{sup {-+}}{bar {nu}}e{sup +}e{sup -} for the first time. Based on the 20225 events including 1018 {+-} 25 background events, they determined the branching ratio, B(K{sub L} {yields} {pi}{sup {+-}}e{sup {-+}}{bar {nu}}e{sup +}e{sup -}; M{sub e{sup +}e{sup -}}> 5 MeV/c{sup 2}, E*{sub e{sup +}e{sup -}}> 30 MeV) = (1.281 {+-} 0.041) x 10{sup -5}. This branching ratio agrees with a theoretical prediction based on the chiral perturbation theory ({chi}PT) calculation at {Omicron}(p{sup 4}). Most of the kinematical distributions agree with the {chi}PT {Omicron}(p{sup 4}) calculation. They also measured one of the low energy coupling constants for the {chi}PT {Omicron}(p{sup 4}), L{sub 9}{sup r} = (8.0 {+-} 1.6) x 10{sup -3}. The M{sub e{sup +}e{sup -}} distribution below 100 MeV showed a 3 {sigma} deviation from the {chi}PT {Omicron}(p{sup 4}) calculation. This requires further studies in theory and experiments.

Book Flavor Changing Kaon Decays from Hypercp Measurements of the K Pi Mu Mu Branching Ratios

Download or read book Flavor Changing Kaon Decays from Hypercp Measurements of the K Pi Mu Mu Branching Ratios written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fermilab HyperCP collaboration is making precision studies of charged hyperon and kaon decays, as well as searches for rare and forbidden hyperon and kaon decays. We report here on measurements of the branching ratios of the flavor-changing neutral-current decays: K[sup[+-]][yields][pi][sup[+-]][mu][sup+][mu][sup -], and compare our results to theoretical predictions. This is the first observation of the K[sup -][yields][pi][sup -][mu][sup+][mu][sup -] decay.

Book Measurements of CP Violation and Neutral Kaon Charge Radius Using K L Pi pi e e Decays

Download or read book Measurements of CP Violation and Neutral Kaon Charge Radius Using K L Pi pi e e Decays written by Alexander Golossanov and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CP violation and K{sup 0} charge radius were measured using K{sub L} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}e{sup +}e{sup -} decays. Specifically, a unique CP-violating decay-plane asymmetry was measured along with the parameters of individual contributions to the decay invariant amplitude: (1) CP-conserving magnetic dipole direct emission form factor, (2) CP-conserving K{sup 0} charge radius transition amplitude and (3) an upper limit for the CP-violating electric dipole direct emission amplitude. The measurements were obtained from the data sample accumulated by KTeV experiment at Fermilab. KTeV had two major goals: the measurement of direct CP violation parameter Re({var_epsilon}{prime}/{var_epsilon}) and the study of rare kaon decays. The state of the art detector was constructed, commissioned, operated and maintained by an international collaboration of scientists from fourteen institutions. The K{sub L} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} e{sup +}e{sup -} data was accumulated over the 1997 and 1999 running periods. During that time hundreds of billions K{sub L} decays took place in the KTeV fiducial decay region.

Download or read book THE K PI E E DECAY written by M. BAKER and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The decay mode of the charged K meson into a charged pion and an electron-positron pair is calculated. It has previously been estimate to occur once in ten million events. An occurrence of one in one hundred thousand events is estimated here. The calculation is only an estimate, for the branching ratio depends upon the (experimentally unknown) pion and kaon form factors, and upon the relative role played by vector and axial-vector weak interaction. Book Precise Measurement of the K to Pi E E Decay

Download or read book Precise Measurement of the K to Pi E E Decay written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sample of 7253 K{sup ±} 2![pi]{sup ±}ee−([gamma]) decay candidates with 1.0% background contamination has been collected by the NA 48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS, which allowed a precise measurement of the decay properties. The branching ratio in the full kinematic range was measured to be BR = (3.11 {+-} 0.12) x 10−7, where the uncertainty includes also the model dependence. The shape of the form factor W(z), where z = (M{sub ee}/M{sub K})2, was parameterized according to several models, and, in particular, the slope [delta] of the linear form factor W(z) = W0(1 + [delta]z) was determined to be [delta] = 2.32 {+-} 0.18. A possible CP violating asymmetry of K+ and K− decay widths was investigated, and a conservative upper limit of 2.1 x 10−2 at 90% CL was established.

Book A Study of Correlations Between Charged Pi K and P in Hadronic Z0 Decays

Download or read book A Study of Correlations Between Charged Pi K and P in Hadronic Z0 Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a preliminary study of correlations in rapidity between pairs of identified charged pions, kaons and protons in the SLD data. Details of short-range charge correlations between all combinations of these hadron species are used to study the locality of quantum number conservation, and suggest local charge ordering along the entire hadronization chain. A strong long-range K[sup+]-K[sup -]correlation is observed at high-momentum and weaker long-range[pi][sup+]-[pi][sup -], [pi][sup+]-K[sup -] and p-K[sup -] and p[bar p] correlations are observed in light flavor events, providing new information on leading particle production in u, d and s jets. The long-range correlations observed in c[bar c] and b[bar b] events are markedly different and consistent with expectations based on known decay properties of the leading heavy hadrons. The SLC electron beam polarization is used to tag the quark hemisphere in each event, allowing the first study of rapidities signed relative to the quark (vs. antiquark) direction. Distributions of ordered, signed rapidity differences provide a new probe of the fragmentation process, including the first direct observation of baryon number ordering along the q[yields][bar q] axis.

Book An Introductory Course of Particle Physics

Download or read book An Introductory Course of Particle Physics written by Palash B. Pal and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2014-07-29 with total page 818 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For graduate students unfamiliar with particle physics, An Introductory Course of Particle Physics teaches the basic techniques and fundamental theories related to the subject. It gives students the competence to work out various properties of fundamental particles, such as scattering cross-section and lifetime. The book also gives a lucid summary of the main ideas involved. In giving students a taste of fundamental interactions among elementary particles, the author does not assume any prior knowledge of quantum field theory. He presents a brief introduction that supplies students with the necessary tools without seriously getting into the nitty-gritty of quantum field theory, and then explores advanced topics in detail. The book then discusses group theory, and in this case the author assumes that students are familiar with the basic definitions and properties of a group, and even SU(2) and its representations. With this foundation established, he goes on to discuss representations of continuous groups bigger than SU(2) in detail. The material is presented at a level that M.Sc. and Ph.D. students can understand, with exercises throughout the text at points at which performing the exercises would be most beneficial. Anyone teaching a one-semester course will probably have to choose from the topics covered, because this text also contains advanced material that might not be covered within a semester due to lack of time. Thus it provides the teaching tool with the flexibility to customize the course to suit your needs.

Book Neutrinos in High Energy and Astroparticle Physics

Download or read book Neutrinos in High Energy and Astroparticle Physics written by Jose Wagner Furtado Valle and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-04-20 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This self-contained modern textbook provides a modern description of the Standard Model and its main extensions from the perspective of neutrino physics. In particular it includes a thorough discussion of the varieties of seesaw mechanism, with or without supersymmetry. It also discusses schemes where neutrino mass arises from lighter messengers, which might lie within reach of the world's largest particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider. Throughout the text, the book stresses the role of neutrinos due to the fact that neutrino properties may serve as a guide to the correct model of unification, hence for a deeper understanding of high energy physics, and because neutrinos play an important role in astroparticle physics and cosmology. Each chapter includes summaries and set of problems, as well as further reading.

Book Introduction to Particle and Astroparticle Physics

Download or read book Introduction to Particle and Astroparticle Physics written by Alessandro De Angelis and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-05 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, written by researchers who had been professionals in accelerator physics before becoming leaders of groups in astroparticle physics, introduces both fields in a balanced and elementary way, requiring only a basic knowledge of quantum mechanics on the part of the reader. The new profile of scientists in fundamental physics ideally involves the merging of knowledge in astroparticle and particle physics, but the duration of modern experiments is such that people cannot simultaneously be practitioners in both. Introduction to Particle and Astroparticle Physics is designed to bridge the gap between the fields. It can be used as a self-training book, a consultation book, or a textbook providing a “modern” approach to particles and fundamental interactions.

Book The Physics of Neutrinos

    Book Details:
  • Author : Vernon Barger
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2012-09-30
  • ISBN : 1400845599
  • Pages : 239 pages

Download or read book The Physics of Neutrinos written by Vernon Barger and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2012-09-30 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physics of neutrinos--uncharged elementary particles that are key to helping us better understand the nature of our universe--is one of the most exciting frontiers of modern science. This book provides a comprehensive overview of neutrino physics today and explores promising new avenues of inquiry that could lead to future breakthroughs. The Physics of Neutrinos begins with a concise history of the field and a tutorial on the fundamental properties of neutrinos, and goes on to discuss how the three neutrino types interchange identities as they propagate from their sources to detectors. The book shows how studies of neutrinos produced by such phenomena as cosmic rays in the atmosphere and nuclear reactions in the solar interior provide striking evidence that neutrinos have mass, and it traces our astounding progress in deciphering the baffling experimental findings involving neutrinos. The discovery of neutrino mass offers the first indication of a new kind of physics that goes beyond the Standard Model of elementary particles, and this book considers the unanticipated patterns in the masses and mixings of neutrinos in the framework of proposed new theoretical models. The Physics of Neutrinos maps out the ambitious future facilities and experiments that will advance our knowledge of neutrinos, and explains why the way forward in solving the outstanding questions in neutrino science will require the collective efforts of particle physics, nuclear physics, astrophysics, and cosmology.

Download or read book Particle Physics written by Brian R. Martin and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-22 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An essential introduction to particle physics, with coverage ranging from the basics through to the very latest developments, in an accessible and carefully structured text. Particle Physics: Third Edition is a revision of a highly regarded introduction to particle physics. In its two previous editions this book has proved to be an accessible and balanced introduction to modern particle physics, suitable for those students needed a more comprehensive introduction to the subject than provided by the ‘compendium’ style physics books. In the Third Edition the standard model of particle physics is carefully developed whilst unnecessary mathematical formalism is avoided where possible. Emphasis is placed on the interpretation of experimental data in terms of the basic properties of quarks and leptons. One of the major developments of the past decade has been the establishing of the existence of neutrino oscillations. This will have a profound effect on the plans of experimentalists. This latest edition brings the text fully up-to-date, and includes new sections on neutrino physics, as well as expanded coverage of detectors, such as the LHC detector. End of chapter problems with a full set of hints for their solutions provided at the end of the book. An accessible and carefully structured introduction to this demanding subject. Includes more advanced material in optional ‘starred’ sections. Coverage of the foundations of the subject, as well as the very latest developments.
