Download or read book Anxious Creativity written by David Trend and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-09-03 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creativity is getting new attention in today’s America––along the way revealing fault lines in U.S. culture. Surveys show people overwhelmingly seeing creativity as both a desirable trait and a work enhancement, yet most say they just aren’t creative. Like beauty and wealth, creativity seems universally desired but insufficiently possessed. Businesses likewise see innovation as essential to productivity and growth, but can’t bring themselves to risk new ideas. Even as one’s "inner artist" is hyped by a booming self-help industry, creative education dwindles in U.S. schools. Anxious Creativity: When Imagination Fails examines this conceptual mess, while focusing on how America’s current edginess dampens creativity in everyone. Written in an engaging and accessible style, Anxious Creativity draws on current ideas in the social sciences, economics, and the arts. Discussion centers on the knotty problem of reconciling the expressive potential in all people with the nation’s tendency to reward only a few. Fortunately, there is some good news, as scientists, economists, and creative professionals have begun advocating new ways of sharing and collaboration. Building on these prospects, the book argues that America’s innovation crisis demands a rethinking of individualism, competition, and the ways creativity is rewarded.
Download or read book Queen Mandalas Adult Coloring Book written by Alicia Follmer and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-01-06 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each page that you will be coloring was hand drawn by me. I start by drawing lightly with a pencil then go over it with a black pen. The drawings took me a year to create and three months to retouch. There are fifty pages in this adult coloring book for you to have fun with and relax coloring. You can be an artist too, as you color the mandalas in this book. Let your creativity flourish. I came up with the title, Queen Mandala, because I thought it would be funny that my book is the queen of all other mandala coloring books. (Although I believe everybody else's coloring books are lovely as well!) The idea for the mandalas was from my love of drawing and making patterns. There are some pages that represent different kinds of abstract flowers, while others represent the sun, and some other represent nature. The outline on page 31 was drawn by my dad, which I finished up. When I was creating this coloring book, I thought this would help people relax, sink into their own imagination, and escape for a while, away from whatever they are going through in life. The cover of the book was hand drawn by me. My boyfriend's father colored the left half of the mandala cover. Then, I placed it into Photoshop to brighten up the colors. God bless!
Download or read book Color Me Freedom Adult Coloring Book written by Elizabeth R. URABE and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-04 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adult coloring books have become the latest fad, with the rampant disharmony in people's lives, both professional and personal, giving rise to a desperate need for innovative ways of relieving stress. There is a big difference, however, between stress and creative tension. Stress is a conditioned reaction to circumstances that we unconsciously believe to be separate from ourselves and beyond our control; destructive precisely because it is outside the sphere and focus of our awareness. In complete contrast, creative tension is a chosen, disciplined response to seemingly paradoxical truths which involves holding the discomfort consciously within our own being until the energies merge, take form, and lift us up to a new dimension of reality. In the former case, we perceive ourselves as victims. In the latter, we know ourselves to be the co-creators not only of our own lives but of the Universe itself.
Download or read book Coloring Mandalas 4 written by Susanne F. Fincher and published by Shambhala Publications. This book was released on 2013-02-12 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mandalas are circular designs containing lines, patterns, and colors that have been used in personal devotions throughout history and often symbolize a desire to mark or set aside a special time or place. Coloring mandalas is a creative activity that can help us feel connected to ourselves and to the world. In her latest collection of mandalas for coloring, Susanne Fincher focuses on using mandalas as a way to claim our own truths and to find our way in the world. The original designs she presents are associated with being and doing. The “being” mandalas represent a sense of balance, integration, and self-realization. They can be reminiscent of the designs of heraldic shields carried as the emblem of personal power. The “doing” mandalas represent action, energy, and functioning in the world. These mandalas are associated with creativity, ingenuity, teamwork, and productivity. Coloring the mandalas in this book allows you to interact with forms that evoke both steady, centered being, and active, skillful doing. Coloring Mandalas 4 provides a creative and insightful path toward self-knowledge.

Download or read book No Kids Allowed written by Michelle Ann Abate and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2020-10-13 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Children's literature isn't just for children anymore. This original study explores the varied forms and roles of children's literature—when it's written for adults. What do Adam Mansbach's Go the F**k to Sleep and Barbara Park's MA! There's Nothing to Do Here! have in common? These large-format picture books are decidedly intended for parents rather than children. In No Kids Allowed, Michelle Ann Abate examines a constellation of books that form a paradoxical new genre: children's literature for adults. Distinguishing these books from YA and middle-grade fiction that appeals to adult readers, Abate argues that there is something unique about this phenomenon. Principally defined by its form and audience, children's literature, Abate demonstrates, engages with more than mere nostalgia when recast for grown-up readers. Abate examines how board books, coloring books, bedtime stories, and series detective fiction written and published specifically for adults question the boundaries of genre and challenge the assumption that adulthood and childhood are mutually exclusive.
