Book Treatise on Zoology Anatomy Taxonomy Biology The Crustacea Volume 5

Download or read book Treatise on Zoology Anatomy Taxonomy Biology The Crustacea Volume 5 written by Carel von Vaupel Klein and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-03-20 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fifth volume of The Crustacea contains chapters on: ● Devoting a chapter to Pentastomida ● Class Eupentastomida ● Orders Bochusacea, Mictacea, and Spelaeogriphacea ● Order Amphipoda ● Order Tanaidacea For those working on Arthropoda, it will be obvious that the chapters on Pentastomida are newly conceived. The other chapters in this book constitute updated translations of contributions in the French edition of the Traité, volume 7(III)(A), while the order Bochusacea, not featuring in the French version as only more recently described, has been added in a combined treatment with the two closely similar orders. Overall, this constitutes the eighth tome published in this English series, viz., preceded by volumes 1 (2004), 2 (2006), 9A (2010), 9B (2012), 3 (2012), 4A (2013), and 4B (2014). From vol. 4A onward the chapters are no longer published in the serial sequence as originally envisaged, because the various contributions, both the updates and the entirely new chapters, become available in a more or less random order. Yet, when completing this series, all major issues as well as all taxa currently recognized will have been treated.

Book New Zealand Inventory of Biodiversity

Download or read book New Zealand Inventory of Biodiversity written by Dennis P. Gordon and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Zealand is the first country to have compiled a checklist of its entire living and fossil biota. This trilogy provides a review and inventory of New Zealand's entire living and fossil biodiversity - an international effort involving 238 New Zealand and overseas specialists and the most comprehensive of its kind in the world. Together, the three volumes list every one of the approximately 56,120 living and 14,700 fossil species of New Zealand's plants, animal, fungi, and micro-organisms. These volumes are affiliated with Species 2000, an international scientific project with the long-term goal of enumerating all described species on Earth into one seamless list - the Catalogue of Life, a kind of online biological telephone directory.

Book Cretaceous Tertiary High latitude Palaeoenvironments

Download or read book Cretaceous Tertiary High latitude Palaeoenvironments written by Jane E. Francis and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2006 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-latitude settings are sensitive to climatically driven palaeoenvironmental change and the resultant biotic response. Climate change through the peak interval of Cretaceous warmth, Late Cretaceous cooling, onset and expansion of the Antarctic ice sheet, and subsequently the variability of Neogene glaciation, are all recorded within the sedimentary and volcanic successions exposed within the James Ross Basin, Antarctica. This site provides the longest onshore record of Cretaceous-Tertiary sedimentary and volcanic rocks in Antarctica and is a key reference section for Cretaceous-Tertiary global change. The sedimentary succession is richly fossiliferous, yielding diverse invertebrate, vertebrate and plant fossil assemblages, allowing the reconstruction of both terrestrial and marine systems. The papers within this volume provide an overview of recent advances in the understanding of palaeoenvironmental change spanning the mid-Cretaceous to the Neogene of the James Ross Basin and related biotic change, and will be of interest to many working on Cretaceous and Tertiary palaeoenvironmental change.

Book Deep sea Tanaidacea Peracarida from the Gulf of Mexico

Download or read book Deep sea Tanaidacea Peracarida from the Gulf of Mexico written by Kim Larsen and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2022-01-04 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with a large number of deep-sea taxa of Tanaidacea from the Gulf of Mexico, primarily collected during the Deep Gulf of Mexico Benthos Study and the North Gulf of Mexico Continental Shelf Study. Four new genera, Aramaturatanais, Caudalonga, Insociabilitanais, and Pseudoarthrura are described. Twenty-one new species belonging to those new genera and to Anarthruropsis, Araphura, Araphuroides, Chauliopleona, Filitanais, Leptognathia, Leptognathiella, Leviapseudes, Meromonakantha, Paragathotanais, Paranarthrura, Robustochelia, and Stenotanais are described as well, in many cases by both sexes. The female of Paragathotanais typicus and the male Pectinapseudes magnus are described herein for the first time. The genus Crurispina is renamed Spinitanaopsis as its original name was found to be preoccupied. Keys are presented for the genera Atlantapseudes, Pectinapseudes, Sphyrapoides, Kudinopasternakia, Paragathotanais, Paranarthrura, Anarthruropsis, Filitanais, Leptognathiella, Mesotanais, Araphura, Araphuroides, Robustochelia, and Stenotanais. Information about distribution and bathymetric range is included. Also, global distribution patterns and dispersal mechanisms applying to the Tanaidacea are discussed. Most deep-sea species appear to be widely distributed and show remarkably wide depth ranges. Misidentification is suggested as the cause of many of those apparently widely distributed tanaidaceans. Wide bathymetric ranges have been recorded for many species, and their apparent pressure tolerance may contribute to facilitating dispersal. The known distribution patterns in the Gulf of Mexico seem merely to reflect sampling effort. In addition to the specific parts, this text gives a review of tanaidacean morphology, anatomy, physiology, ecology, development, reproduction, behaviour, and of other aspects of their biology.

Book Annotated type catalogue of the Bulimulidae Mollusca Gastropoda Orthalicoidea in the Natural History Museum London

Download or read book Annotated type catalogue of the Bulimulidae Mollusca Gastropoda Orthalicoidea in the Natural History Museum London written by Abraham S.H. Breure and published by PenSoft Publishers LTD. This book was released on 2014-03-21 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The family Bulimulidae is a dominant land snail family in the Neotropics, with more than 1000 nominal taxa described. Revisionary work has only partially been done, but many genera need further revisionary work for which a sound taxonomic basis is needed. Type specimens for more than 400 taxa of this family are present in the Natural History Museum, London, U.K., and are documented in this paper. For each taxon the relevant literature is cited, type locality, label, the provenance of the specimens, and the current systematic position; photographs of nearly all type specimens and labels are also provided.
