Book New Light on Mormonism Classic Reprint

Download or read book New Light on Mormonism Classic Reprint written by Mrs. Ellen E. Dickinson and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from New Light on Mormonism The rapid growth of Mormonism and the grave political aspect it has assumed render it one of the most important topics of current reform. The time seems ripe for giving to the public its true origin, and for the re-telling of an old story, with the addition of facts and circumstances that have not hitherto been printed. A deeper interest may be felt in this attempt to cut to the very root of this monstrous parasite upon our American civilization, by my stating here that the Rev. Solomon Spaulding, the author of the romance called "The Manuscript Found," from which the "Book of Mormon" was formulated, was my mother's uncle by marriage; that this romance was for a long time in the house of my grandfather, William Harvey Sabine, near Syracuse, New York, and that it contained no suggestion of polygamy. With the intention of writing these pages I visited Mrs. McKinstry, the daughter and only child of the Rev. S. Spaulding, in Washington, D. C., in 1880, and she then made a sworn statement as to her father's authorship of the work which has been used with such disastrous effect by crafty men. (Appendix No. 1.) Book Lights and Shadows of Mormonism Classic Reprint

Download or read book Lights and Shadows of Mormonism Classic Reprint written by Josiah Francis Gibbs and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lights and Shadows of Mormonism The initial though in connection with the writing of this volume was to assemble the evidences relating to the political perfidy of the Mormon "prophets," and to make a brief statement of the political incidents in the Utah from 1890 to 1909. The underlying motive was to prove that the continuous asseverations of the Mormon press and speakers to the effect that the prophets were not in politics are absolutely false. The falsehoods uttered and diligently circulated throughout the United States, and testified to under oath by the prophets during the "Smoot" investigation, relative to the non-interference of the Mormon leaders in politics, were so interwoven with their treachery in the matter of polygamy, that once phase of the subject could not be discussed without trenching upon the other. To make the subject intelligible to those unacquainted with the true inwardness of the Mormon theo-political imperium in imperio, an explanatory foundation was necessary. Every effort to find a starting place short of the very beginning of the system was fruitless. But a consecutive history of the rise and growth of Mormonism, no matter how condensed, would be too voluminous for the objective subject-matter of the work. It was therefore decided to discuss only those high-lights of the subject which hear more directly on the political aspect of Mormonism, and to introduce sufficient general details to keep the story intelligibly consecutive. In the matters of construction and direction, it is cheerfully conceded that the following pages are not bomb-proof to Mormon criticism. But the entire Mormon hierarchy, their servile tools and professional liars, are challenged to disprove the truth of the evidence of their unparalleled duplicity, and the legitimacy and justice of the conclusions and criticisms. Book The Story of the Book of Mormon Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Story of the Book of Mormon Classic Reprint written by George Reynolds and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-18 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Story of the Book of Mormon HE story that we are about to relate is a true one. It is the history of the races who lived on this broad land of ours long, long ago. From it we shall learn many lessons of God's great love for man. We shall also learn how often his love has been spurned, how apt his favored children have been to walk in ways of sin, and how prone to disobey his holy law.' It is a story full of light and shade, one which it will be well for all of us to take to heart, for by so doing our faith in God will increase, and we shall be prompted to strive the more earnestly to avoid the evils that others by their misdeeds have brought upon themselves and their posterity. America, the land we love, is, in our Heavenly Father's eyes, choice above all other lands as the home of his sons and daughters, whom he has placed upon this earth. For all God's creatures are not here. He has made many worlds and filled them with his chil dren. How many we know not; they are countless to us. The stars, that shine in myriads in the heavens, are nearly all suns like the one that gives us light; the remaining few are worlds like unto this on which we dwell; and ours is one of the very smallest of them all. To the works of God there is no beginning, neither is there any end. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Mormonism Refuted in the Light of Scripture and History written by John Larsen and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mormonism Refuted in the Light of Scripture and History: A Testimony to the Historical Church It is the spiritual, the Christian, condition Of Mormonism into which I shall enquire. The ostensible purpose and mission Of the Church Of Christ is, and ever has been, to deal with soul conditions, and leave the material conditions to the providence Of him who says Seek ye first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. (matt. 6: Hence, I Shall endeavor to show that the part Of the doctrines of Mormonism in which it differs from the historical Church, is radically foreign to the entire association Of Christian ideas, - foreign to all teaching Of the Christian Church through all times and in every locality. This work is in humbleness intended also to be a warning to the many earnest souls who have not yet been deceived by this well-planned deception, but who may yet in the future be approached by its emissaries a warning and a reminder that an is not in the desert. (matt. 24 26) but that God is everywhere. Again assuring the reader that the writing of these pages has been prompted only by the love Of truth, and that no bitterness has in any way been in tended, and Sincerely hoping that this work may be accepted as an humble Offering on the altar Of the faith that saves, it is sent forth in the name Of the blessed Redeemer, to whom be glory forever and ever. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mormonism: Its Leaders and Designs My Friends: In writing the following work, I was not actuated by the base design of helping to malign an unpopular people, nor by the unworthy one of administering to mere idle curiosity. I wrote it nether to feed public prejudice, nor to supply public scandal. I wrote it for you; to you, therefore, I dedicate it. I know your sincerity; I know also your delusion. As sincerely deceived as yourselves, I have preceded you to Salt Lake City. Some things of what I there saw, with the reflections they have suggested, are contained herein. Of the much that ought to be said, I have endeavored to say a little. The subject, however, is by no means exhausted. While it is better to learn by personal experience than ever to remain ignorant, it is far wiser to profit by the experience of others. Book Book of Mormon Authorship

Download or read book Book of Mormon Authorship written by Charles D. Tate and published by . This book was released on 1982-01-01 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1830, millions of people have read the Book of Mormon and become convinced that Joseph Smith's account of its ancient origins is correct. Others, however, assume that the book must be a fraud. The Book of Mormon describes peoples, cultures, history, and lands largely unknown to the 19th-century world. But today we enjoy a relative wealth of information about those times and peoples, providing a background against which the Book of Mormon's claims of ancient origin can be tested. This volume brings together a collection of initial efforts to mount such tests. Although first published in 1982, these nine essays have not been outdated or refuted by subsequent studies. The evidence and conclusions they put forward are just as persuasive today as when they were first published.

The shades of light and gloom can not be written. The solici tudes, the prayers and heart throbs that have been wrought into these years of toil by mis sion teachers and ministers can not be traced. The joy that has come to the laborers as precious souls have been gathered and lives changed is known only to those whose pray ers have been answered. The gray dawn of the coming day in Utah brings with it abun dant regard for all the days of anxious bur den bearing. The benediction of service is enough. Its genesis was a paper pre pared as a contribution to local history. It has grown with the years it has made use of sources not ordinarily accessible and possibly no longer in existence; and it is believed that it presents more completely the story of the birth of Mormonism than any publication now in print. It is sent forth with the hope that it will help to arouse the American people to endeavor more energetically to remove this moral menace to and blot upon our country the greatest religious fraud of the nineteenth century, if not of all time. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The City of the Mormons: Or, Three Days at Nauvoo, in 1842 Nor is the growth of a new religion a subject merely of philosophical curiosity. In a historical point of view it is worthy of all the light which care ful investigation can bestow. The cause of truth imperatively demands that the progress of error should be diligently noted. How gladly should we receive the testimony of one who had been a witness of the early growth of the religion of Mahomet! How highly should we esteem an authentic account of the process by which the corrupt Christian of the seventh century was gradually alienated from the faith of his fathers, and induced to accept as divine the revelations Of the Arabian impostor!
