Book New Horizons in Fundamental Physics

Download or read book New Horizons in Fundamental Physics written by Stefan Schramm and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-11 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the state-of-the-art in selected topics across modern nuclear physics, covering fields of central importance to research and illustrating their connection to many different areas of physics. It describes recent progress in the study of superheavy and exotic nuclei, which is pushing our knowledge to ever heavier elements and neutron-richer isotopes. Extending nuclear physics to systems that are many times denser than even the core of an atomic nucleus, one enters the realm of the physics of neutron stars and possibly quark stars, a topic that is intensively investigated with many ground-based and outer-space research missions as well as numerous theoretical works. By colliding two nuclei at very high ultra-relativistic energies one can create a fireball of extremely hot matter, reminiscent of the universe very shortly after the big bang, leading to a phase of melted hadrons and free quarks and gluons, the so-called quark-gluon plasma. These studies tie up with effects of crucial importance in other fields. During the collision of heavy ions, electric fields of extreme strength are produced, potentially destabilizing the vacuum of the atomic physics system, subsequently leading to the decay of the vacuum state and the emission of positrons. In neutron stars the ultra-dense matter might support extremely high magnetic fields, far beyond anything that can be produced in the laboratory, significantly affecting the stellar properties. At very high densities general relativity predicts the stellar collapse to a black hole. However, a number of current theoretical activities, modifying Einstein’s theory, point to possible alternative scenarios, where this collapse might be avoided. These and related topics are addressed in this book in a series of highly readable chapters. In addition, the book includes fundamental analyses of the practicalities involved in transiting to an electricity supply mainly based on renewable energies, investigating this scenario less from an engineering and more from a physics point of view. While the topics comprise a large scope of activities, the contributions also show an extensive overlap in the methodology and in the analytical and numerical tools involved in tackling these diverse research fields that are the forefront of modern science.

Book New Worlds New Horizons in Astronomy and Astrophysics

Download or read book New Worlds New Horizons in Astronomy and Astrophysics written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2011-02-04 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Driven by discoveries, and enabled by leaps in technology and imagination, our understanding of the universe has changed dramatically during the course of the last few decades. The fields of astronomy and astrophysics are making new connections to physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science. Based on a broad and comprehensive survey of scientific opportunities, infrastructure, and organization in a national and international context, New Worlds, New Horizons in Astronomy and Astrophysics outlines a plan for ground- and space- based astronomy and astrophysics for the decade of the 2010's. Realizing these scientific opportunities is contingent upon maintaining and strengthening the foundations of the research enterprise including technological development, theory, computation and data handling, laboratory experiments, and human resources. New Worlds, New Horizons in Astronomy and Astrophysics proposes enhancing innovative but moderate-cost programs in space and on the ground that will enable the community to respond rapidly and flexibly to new scientific discoveries. The book recommends beginning construction on survey telescopes in space and on the ground to investigate the nature of dark energy, as well as the next generation of large ground-based giant optical telescopes and a new class of space-based gravitational observatory to observe the merging of distant black holes and precisely test theories of gravity. New Worlds, New Horizons in Astronomy and Astrophysics recommends a balanced and executable program that will support research surrounding the most profound questions about the cosmos. The discoveries ahead will facilitate the search for habitable planets, shed light on dark energy and dark matter, and aid our understanding of the history of the universe and how the earliest stars and galaxies formed. The book is a useful resource for agencies supporting the field of astronomy and astrophysics, the Congressional committees with jurisdiction over those agencies, the scientific community, and the public.

Book Frontiers of Fundamental Physics

Download or read book Frontiers of Fundamental Physics written by M. Barone and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Olympia conference Frontiers of Fundamental Physics was a gathering of about hundred scientists who carryon their research in conceptually important areas of physical science (they do "fundamental physics"). Most of them were physicists, but also historians and philosophers of science were well represented. An important fraction of the participants could be considered "heretical" because they disagreed with the validity of one or several fundamental assumptions of modern physics. Common to all participants was an excellent scientific level coupled with a remarkable intellectual honesty: we are proud to present to the readers this certainly unique book. Alternative ways of considering fundamental matters should of course be vitally important for the progress of science, unless one wanted to admit that physics at the end of the XXth century has already obtained the final truth, a very unlikely possibility even if one accepted the doubtful idea of the existence of a "final" truth. The merits of the Olympia conference should therefore not be judged a priori in a positive or in a negative way depending on one's refusal or acceptance, respectively, but considered after reading the actual of basic principles of contemporary science, new proposals and evidences there presented. They seem very important to us.

Download or read book THEORY OF ELEM WAVES written by Lewis E. Little and published by New Classics Library. This book was released on 2017-01-23 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Theory of Elementary Waves: A New Explanation of Fundamental Physics, by Dr. Lewis E. Little, upends the standard view of quantum mechanics. His new theory explains activity at the sub-atomic level with the same understanding of cause and effect that governs all other science: In other words, the Theory of Elementary Waves (TEW) -makes sense of the physical universe.- The science of physics should allow us to understand the physical world, from galaxies to sub-atomic particles. Yet quantum mechanics has produced a sad irony, namely that millions of high school and college students consider physics to be virtually incomprehensible. Explanations under quantum mechanics include a variety of contradictions. Most prominent is that elementary particles simultaneously exhibit the properties and behavior of particles and waves, a notion which produced the claim that a single particle-or at least it's -potential--can be in two places at once. The links in this chain of absurdity have led to bizarre extremes, such as the idea of backwards time, curved space and the comment from a well-known physicist that -the moon is demonstrably not there when nobody looks.- The time is ripe for a credible challenge to the formalisms of quantum theory. The Theory of Elementary Waves presents: -A full critique of quantum theory, including Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, Bell's Theorem, the -double-slit- experiment and such topics as -dark matter.- -An entire chapter on how TEW provides a physical explanation of Einstein's theory of relativity. -How TEW sheds new light on the physics of the atom and atomic decay. -Suggestions for future research, not just in physics but in chemistry and biology as well. In the book's foreword, best-selling author Robert Prechter credits Dr. Little with -a vision as revolutionary as that of Copernicus 350 years earlier, - and writes -he not only revolutionizes the fundamentals of sub-atomic physics but also reclaims the fundamentals of scientific philosophy.- If you want to experience being at the forefront of a scientific revolution in what was formerly an unnecessarily mysterious field, The Theory of Elementary Waves: A New Explanation of Fundamental Physics is for you.

Download or read book Horizons in World Physics written by Albert Reimer and published by . This book was released on 2018-03-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Horizons in World Physics. Volume 295 provides a detailed description of major fundamental problems of physics associated with inconsistencies of major postulates and concepts used in classical, relativistic, quantum and particle physics. The authors examine conceptual difficulties of classical dynamics, afterwards introducing notions such as energy, momentum and collision. Difficulties related to the introduction of electrodynamics based on hydrodynamic principles are described. Next, a study is presented wherein an attempt was made to explain the fundamental light properties (diffraction, photoelectric effect, pressure, refraction, dispersion and reflection). The photon flow was considered as a directed flow of so-called elementary particles (EP) passing strongly determined channels between the atomic nuclei with different concentrations of FOP. A preceding study gives an explanation for the ordinary and dark energy density of the cosmos. The authors present a connection between quantum entanglement and the absence of almost 95.5% of the energy supposed to be contained in the cosmos, taking the view that our current mathematical knowledge and general theories are in position to explain ordinary energy, dark matter and pure dark energy both qualitatively and quantitatively. A subsequent chapter investigates nonlinear propagation of ultrashort intense laser pulses through underdense plasma, presenting a paraxial theory of self-focusing of intense laser pulses due to expulsion of plasma electrons produced by the extreme ponderomotive force of a focused laser pulse. The authors address the way nanoporous materials applications in biology and medicine have been widely researched in recent years, presenting the numerical model and experimental data for imbibition. This model simulates the motion of the front of the liquid, two-dimensionally imbibing the inhomogeneous nanoporous medium with altering porosity and pore size. This collection also contains a study focusing on focuses on investigating the possible use of microwave discharges to initiate ignition and detonation of airfuel mixtures. The results can be applied to the development of volumetric ignition systems in internal combustion engines, gas turbine engines, and detonation engines. A family of long known solutions to the Einstein-Maxwell equations is revisited from a rigorous mathematical point of view by Employing the formalism of Cartan exterior differential forms. It is shown that the curvature of the spacetime supporting these electromagnetic waves vanishes in the absence of electromagnetic fields, emphasizing that the gravitational field in these solutions arises exclusively from electromagnetic effects. In closing, the nucleon-nucleon interactions at low energies are described by NN-potentials that arise within the framework of the classical mesonic theory as a consequence of the interchange of mesons. The authors conclude that the NN-potentials only correspond to some residual interactions.

Book Flow of Time

  • Author : Claus Birkholz

  • Pages : 171 pages

Download or read book Flow of Time written by Claus Birkholz and published by BookRix. This book was released on 2014-12-02 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apply yesterday's variation principle to Gell-Mann's quarks, pepper it with the inconsistencies of unfounded ad-hoc tactics - and there you are with grandpa's classical "Standard" model having no strategy, no future, topped only by "string" fantasies "beyond" physics, with all the great questions left open. By marrying Planck's quanta with Einstein's General Relativity, the author is presenting the unified top-down model of a consistent "New Physics" (Quantum Gravity, including the Grand Unification) free of singularities and in accord with experiment. Space-time is bent, fully quantized and "background-independent". Old problems of fundamental physics emerge as self-explaining: 4-dimensionality, the quark confinement, flavours, cosmic inflation, the arrow of time, the physics of Black Holes with their event horizons, the origins of (ordinary and dark) matter, and much more is dropping out as self-evident properties of nature. Future starts to-day. Come along on the journey! The amazing success of "New Physics"/"Neue Physik" (with almost 10.000 copies sold in a single year) gave rise to this extended, 2nd edition renamed "Flow of Time". Main target groups: Students, physicists, mathematicians, but also people interested in philosophy or with an inclination to leave the beaten dead-end tracks of actual fundamental models of the old style in favour of more promising, novel ways.

Book Fundamentals of Plasma Physics

Download or read book Fundamentals of Plasma Physics written by Paul M. Bellan and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2008-07-31 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This rigorous explanation of plasmas is relevant to diverse plasma applications such as controlled fusion, astrophysical plasmas, solar physics, magnetospheric plasmas, and plasma thrusters. More thorough than previous texts, it exploits new powerful mathematical techniques to develop deeper insights into plasma behavior. After developing the basic plasma equations from first principles, the book explores single particle motion with particular attention to adiabatic invariance. The author then examines types of plasma waves and the issue of Landau damping. Magnetohydrodynamic equilibrium and stability are tackled with emphasis on the topological concepts of magnetic helicity and self-organization. Advanced topics follow, including magnetic reconnection, nonlinear waves, and the Fokker–Planck treatment of collisions. The book concludes by discussing unconventional plasmas such as non-neutral and dusty plasmas. Written for beginning graduate students and advanced undergraduates, this text emphasizes the fundamental principles that apply across many different contexts.

Book ToE New Physics explaining our world by Quantum Gravity

Download or read book ToE New Physics explaining our world by Quantum Gravity written by Claus Birkholz and published by BookRix. This book was released on 2016-01-08 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Space, time, matter - what really is all that? What are charges, what flavours? What is preventing time from running backwards? Quantum Gravity is describing all that - consisely, comprehensively, to the point. The Grand Unified Theory (GUT = ToE = "Theory of Everything"), finally, is caring for the rest by relating all forces of nature to each other. Parities are the peep-holes into strange worlds before the Big Bang and beyond the event horizon. Everything is calculable, even the transitions there. By working out the value of the fine-structure constant, theory opens to recognizing Dark Matter as the cradle of visible matter; the GUT is demonstrating birth and properties of ordinary matter out of Dark Matter and by what its creation process is stopped again. A totally novel assessment is arising with respect to neutrino oscillations. Pauli's principle explains physically. Einstein's cosmological constant is demystified. Dark Energy, cosmic inflation, the number of dimensions we are living in are not any more dully accepted from outside - theory is deriving all that. As a matter of fact, the gateway to developing Quantum Gravity has been widely open since Einstein, Planck, and Dirac. Only, nobody has passed its threshold; nuclear fission had changed priorities. Then, Gell-Mann had knocked at the door of the GUT. This time, however, it was the "Standard" model to crash the door back into its frame, and the string model sealed the lock. - Meanwhile, the model succeeded in smuggling into the open underneath the feet of its jailers, ready for being applied more extensively.

Book Consciousness Biology and Fundamental Physics

Download or read book Consciousness Biology and Fundamental Physics written by Simon Raggett and published by Author House. This book was released on 2012-01-31 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why are we conscious? Why do we experience the taste of almonds or the colour red? What is the experience of choosing between beer and wine, and how do we do it? Why do we think that only organisms with brains can do this, although our brains are based on the same sort of physics as everything else in the universe? The conventional consciousness studies of the last twenty years, wedded to a nineteenth century view of physics and biology, has failed to produce anything of explanatory value. Roger Penrose's hypothesis that consciousness is linked to a fundamental level of the universe is here considered more promising, but may not have responded sufficiently to recent advances in quantum biology and neuroscience. 'Consciousness, Biology and Fundamental Physics' attempts an updating of the original inspiration.
