Book Capillary Electrophoresis

Download or read book Capillary Electrophoresis written by Patrick Camilleri and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1997-11-25 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of capillary electrophoresis (CE) as an analytical tool has increased dramatically over the last ten years. It has changed from being an exploratory technique, mainly of academic interest, to one that is applied to solve "real" analytical problems. CE is easily adapted to its various modes of operation, often requiring little more than a change of the buffer solution, and is quickly becoming the preferred technique when analyzing minute amounts of available material. Featuring new chapters on CE analysis of inorganic ions and carbohydrates, the new edition of Capillary Electrophoresis not only presents this method as an academic tool, but also provides applications for solving "real-world" analytical problems. This updated Second Edition reflects the increasing use of CE over the last 10 years, how it is being applied, and the basic theoretical aspects of the separation and detection methodology of CE. Capillary Electrophoresis: Theory and Practice will appeal to students and professionals of analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, biochemistry, and biotechnology and includes suitable experiments designed to be attempted by university or college students, or anyone else wishing to familiarize themselves with CE.

Book DNA Methods in Food Safety

Download or read book DNA Methods in Food Safety written by Omar A. Oyarzabal and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-08-21 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular typing of foodborne pathogens has become an indispensable tool in epidemiological studies. Thanks to these techniques, we now have a better understanding of the distribution and appearance of bacterial foodborne diseases and have a deeper knowledge of the type of food products associated with the major foodborne pathogens. Within the molecular techniques, DNA-based techniques have prospered for more than 40 years and have been incorporated in the first surveillance systems to monitor bacterial foodborne pathogens in the United States and other countries. However, DNA techniques vary widely and many microbiology laboratory personnel working with food and/or water face the dilemma of which method to incorporate. DNA Methods in Food Safety: Molecular Typing of Foodborne and Waterborne Bacterial Pathogens succinctly reviews more than 25 years of data on a variety of DNA typing techniques, summarizing the different mathematical models for analysis and interpretation of results, and detailing their efficacy in typing different foodborne and waterborne bacterial pathogens, such as Campylobacter, Clostridium perfringens, Listeria, Salmonella, among others. Section I describes the different DNA techniques used in the typing of bacterial foodborne pathogens, whilst Section II deals with the application of these techniques to type the most important bacterial foodborne pathogens. In Section II the emphasis is placed on the pathogen, and each chapter describes some of the most appropriate techniques for typing each bacterial pathogen. The techniques presented in this book are the most significant in the study of the molecular epidemiology of bacterial foodborne pathogens to date. It therefore provides a unique reference for students and professionals in the field of microbiology, food and water safety and epidemiology and molecular epidemiology.

Book Immobilized pH Gradients Theory and Methodology

Download or read book Immobilized pH Gradients Theory and Methodology written by Pier Giorgio Righetti and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1990-02-07 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Immobilized pH gradients (IPG) represent the most advanced development of isoelectric focusing (IEF). Originally developed to overcome all the problems of IEF in soluble amphoteric buffers (CA) (such as pH gradient instability, complexation with CA chemicals, unreproducibility of pH gradients, protein precipitation at the pI), it turned out to be an entirely new technique, quite different in principle and operation from conventional IEF. The book is thus meant to bring the reader up to date with this fast developing field. The book is divided into six chapters containing information on: detailed treatment of all the chemistry of the Immobiline chemicals; theory of pH gradient generation (computer simulations, tables with all the possible pH recipes); all analytical aspects of IPGs, including staining techniques, blotting etc.; two-dimensional maps, with a detailed treatise of advantages and limitations; preparative aspects of IPGs, including comparison with other preparative electrophoretic techniques; some examples of applications, including genetic and forensic analysis, blood polymorphism etc. The book is extensive and up-to-date, while also extensively covering the theory. Clearly written, with easily accessible information, the volume is a worthy asset to the Lab. Techniques series.

Book Practical Capillary Electrophoresis

Download or read book Practical Capillary Electrophoresis written by Robert Weinberger and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-04-18 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1980s, capillary electrophoresis (CE) joined high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) as the most powerful separation technique available to analytical chemists and biochemists. Published research using CE grew from 48 papers in the year of commercial introduction (1988) to 1200 in 1997. While only a dozen major pharmaceutical and biotech companies have reduced CE to routine practice, the applications market is showing real or potential growth in key areas, particularly in the DNA marketplace for genomic mapping and forensic identification. For drug development involving small molecules (including chiral separations), one CE instrument can replace 10 liquid chromatographs in terms of speed of analysis. CE also uses aqueous rather than organic solvents and is thus environmentally friendlier than HPLC. The second edition of Practical Capillary Electrophoresis has been extensively reorganized and rewritten to reflect modern usage in the field, with an emphasis on commercially available apparatus and reagents. This authoritative and very comprehensible treatment builds on the author's extensive experience as an instructor of short courses for the American Chemical Society and for industry. Illustrated with detailed diagrams of electrophoretic phenomena Offers step-by-step methods development schemes Presents techniques for developing quantitative, robust, and precise methods Includes an extensive troubleshooting guide Updates and greatly expands on the first edition-more than 50% of the text is new Written by an internationally recognized scientist who is an instructor for American Chemical Society short courses on HPCE

Book Fish Processing Technology

Download or read book Fish Processing Technology written by George M. Hall and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As with the first edition this book includes chapters on established fish processes and new processes and allied issues. The first five chapters cover fish biochemistry affecting processing, curing, surimi and fish mince, chilling and freezing and canning. These established processes can still show innovations and improved theory although their mature status precludes major leaps in knowledge and technology. The four chapters concerned with new areas relevant to fish processing are directed at the increasing globalisation of the fish processing industry and the demands, from legislation and the consumer, for better quality, safer products. One chapter reviews the methods available to identify fish species in raw and processed products. The increased demand for fish products and the reduced catch of commercially-important species has lead to adulteration or substitu tion of these species with cheaper species. The ability to detect these practices has been based on some elegant analytical techniques in electrophoresis.

Book Capillary Electrophoresis in Analytical Biotechnology

Download or read book Capillary Electrophoresis in Analytical Biotechnology written by Pier Giorgio Righetti and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-12-18 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new book on capillary electrophoresis (CE) is unique in its focus on biotechnology. It is devoted to proteins, peptides, and techniques especially useful in the area of recombinant DNA products. Emphasis is also placed on glycoproteins. Because of the growing role of the glycosylation process in CE, a comprehensive chapter on the subject acts as a book within a book. Although this well-known researcher in biotechnology presents a number of chapters extensively discussing theories, important practical aspects in the routine use of capillary electrophoresis are also covered.
