Book Recent Advances in Autogenous Grinding

Download or read book Recent Advances in Autogenous Grinding written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Autogenous grinding of coarse ore, with or without the addition of steel balls, is a very economical way of grinding in that it eliminates secondary and tertiary crushing, with the associated screens, conveyor, and labour. A semi-autogenous grinding system may be most suited to the requirements of a new mine because the capital investment is minimized and this form of grinding does not rely on the competency of the larger rocks. The use of very large grinding units and autogenous mills with diameters of up to 10,4 m have resulted in lower costs, but cracking of the castings in the mill ends have caused expensive shut-downs. In addition, the use of large-diameter mills may cause shattering of the larger rocks. Long mills with moderately large diameters have proved suitable for single-stage autogenous or semi-autogenous grinding, but the choice of mill size is often influenced by the availability of manufacturing facilities and transportation. The design of coarse-ore stockpiles (or bins) influences the control of a mill in that variations in the size distribution of the feed have a marked effect on the size of the product. The product size cannot be controlled by the feed rate because the level in the mill alters accordingly. However, pulp level and pulp density do affect mill performance, and these variables can be used to control the size of the product within certain limits. The addition of steel balls can increase capacity and make the product coarser. Various types of mill liners, grates, and peripheral equipment that influence mill availability and operating cost are discussed. In prediction of full-scale performance from pilot-plant tests, good correlations have been obtained, but the testing of ore at depth remains a problem.

Book Removal of Pebbles and Pre crushing of Selected Feed Material in Autogenous Milling

Download or read book Removal of Pebbles and Pre crushing of Selected Feed Material in Autogenous Milling written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two methods by which the standard autogenous-milling process can be modified are reported, viz the removal of the pebbles in the size range 25 to 60 mm during milling, and the pre-crushing of a fraction of the feed material. The tests were conducted in the pilot autogenous mill at Mintek, using a uranium ore from Beisa. The removal of pebbles during autogenous milling appears to have several advantages. The energy requirements are reduced, the throughput is increased and, in industrial operations, the downstream handling costs would be reduced because barren pebbles are rejected at the milling stage. The testwork showed that approximately 80 per cent of the pebbles removed from the mill were barren, and that the crushing and recycling of the remaining 20 per cent did not have a major influence on the milling process. Pre-crushing of the feed material in the size range between 13,5 and 76 mm to smaller than 13,5 mm was also investigated. Tests in which a hydrocyclone classifier was used in attempts to produce a fine product (90 per cent smaller than 75 micrometer) from the modified feed were unsuccessful owing to a large build-up of sand in the mill, which caused intermittent blockage of the peripheral-discharge grates. In some tests, a 1,2 mm screen was used as the classifier to give a coarser product, and these were more successful, resulting in an increase in the throughput of the pilot autogenous mill of 130 per cent. However, when the modified feed was fed to the mill, the size distribution of the load in the mill changed, and the product obtained was coarser than the product from run-of-mine ore - 25 per cent as against 51 per cent smaller than 75 micrometer.

Book Handbook on Rare Earth Metals and Alloys Properties Extraction Preparation and Applications

Download or read book Handbook on Rare Earth Metals and Alloys Properties Extraction Preparation and Applications written by NPCS Board of Consultants & Engineers and published by ASIA PACIFIC BUSINESS PRESS Inc.. This book was released on 2009-04-01 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rare earths are essential constituents of more than 100 mineral species and present in many more through substitution. They have a marked geochemical affinity for calcium, titanium, niobium, zirconium, fluoride, phosphate and carbonate ions. Industrially important minerals, which are utilized at present for rare earths production, are essentially three, namely monazite, bastnasite and xenotime. In modern time techniques for exploration of rare earths and yttrium minerals include geologic identification of environments of deposition and surface as well as airborne reconnaissance with magnetometric and radiometric equipment. There are numerous applications of rare earths such as in glass making industry, cracking catalysts, electronic and optoelectronic devices, medical technology, nuclear technology, agriculture, plastic industry etc. Lot of metals and alloys called rare earth are lying in the earth which required to be processed. Some of the important elements extracted from rare earths are uranium, lithium, beryllium, selenium, platinum metals, tantalum, silicon, molybdenum, manganese, chromium, cadmium, titanium, tungsten, zirconium etc. There are different methods involved in production of metals and non metals from rare earths for example; separation, primary crushing, secondary crushing, wet grinding, dry grinding etc. The rare earths are silver, silverymwhite, or gray metals; they have a high luster, but tarnish readily in air, have high electrical conductivity. The rare earths share many common properties this makes them difficult to separate or even distinguish from each other. There are very small differences in solubility and complex formation between the rare earths. The rare earth metals naturally occur together in minerals. Rare earths are found with non metals, usually in the 3+ oxidation state. At present all the rare earth resources in India are in the form of placer monazite deposits, which also carry other industrially important minerals like ilmenite, rutile, zircon, sillimanite and garnet. Some of the fundamentals of the book are commercially important rare earth minerals, exploration for rare earth resources, rare earth resources of the world, some rare earth minerals and their approximate compositions, rare earths in cracking catalysts, rare earth based phosphors, interdependence of applications and production of rare earths, uranium alloys, conversion of ores to lithium chemicals, characterization and analysis of very pure silicon, derivation of molybdenum metal, electoplating and chromizing, electrolytic production of titanium, heat treatment of titanium alloys, tensile properties of alloys etc. The book covers occurrence of rare earth, resources of the world, production of lithium metals, compounds derived from the metals, chemical properties of beryllium, uses of selenium, derivation of molybdenum metals, ore concentration and treatment and many more. This is a unique book of its kind, which will be a great asset for scientists, researchers, technocrats and entrepreneurs. Book Mining Latin America Miner a Latinoamericana

Download or read book Mining Latin America Miner a Latinoamericana written by Smale and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In October, 1985, discussions were held in Santiago in regard to the possibility of organizing a minerals industry conference in Chile in November, 1986, under the auspices of the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy and in association with other bodies and organizations. I, in turn, was asked to chair the Organizing Committee and at our first meeting in London in November, 1985, we realized how little time we had if we were to meet the date proposed. In the event, thanks to considerable support from the Organizing Committee and others, coupled with the very good response from authors, we were able to put together a programme on a variety of topics, with some particular emphasis on operations in South America, and with special reference to Chile, that we regard as attractive. This is the first conference to have been organized by the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy in Chile, but it is intended that it should initiate a series to be held in Latin American countries. Chile has a long and healthy mining tradition and it is fitting, therefore, that it should have been chosen for the first such conference.
