Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surfactants in Biopharmaceutical Development addresses the progress, challenges and opportunities for surfactant research specific to pharmaceutical development, providing a broad range of important surfactant-related topics as they relate directly to the biopharmaceutical process. Chapters address fundamental topics, like mechanisms of protein stabilization by surfactants, the latest, state-of-the-art technology and methods to illustrate the practical application to biopharmaceutical development, forward-looking chapters on control strategies and novel surfactants, with a special focus on current regulatory aspects of paramount importance for biopharmaceutical companies and regulators. It has been widely recognized that surfactants provide protection to therapeutic proteins against interfacial stresses. Despite the fact that the very mechanism of protein stabilization by surfactants has not been completely understood, surfactants are universally regarded as critical functional excipients by the industry and by regulators. Describes the current state of research on surfactants in the context of biopharmaceutical development, drawing upon contributions from international experts across industry, academia, and regulators Addresses the opportunities and challenges associated with surfactants in biologic drug development Provides a defining resource for practitioners in the biopharmaceutical industry, regulators and academics by summarizing the latest knowledge of surfactants in biopharmaceutical development in one comprehensive volume

Book Surfactants and Detergents

Download or read book Surfactants and Detergents written by Ashim Dutta and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-09-28 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surfactants are ubiquitous and have applications in diverse areas, including food, cosmetics, detergents, lubricants, enhanced oil recovery (EOR), and targeted drug delivery systems. Their wide diversity of applications owes to their unique structure, namely, a hydrophilic and a hydrophobic group present in the same molecule. Although most surfactants used industrially are synthetic, there is a growing need for natural surfactants, as the latter is obtainable from renewable sources and are less toxic and highly biodegradable in contrast to their synthetic counterparts. This book is a compilation of interesting articles by various experts that cover various applications of both synthetic and natural surfactants.

Download or read book Chemistry and Technology of Surfactants written by Richard J. Farn and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surfactants are used throughout industry as components in a hugerange of formulated products or as effect chemicals in theproduction or processing of other materials. A detailedunderstanding of the basis of their activity is required by allthose who use surfactants, yet the new graduate or postgraduatechemist or chemical engineer will generally have little or noexperience of how and why surfactants work. Chemistry & Technology of Surfactants is aimed at newgraduate or postgraduate level chemists and chemical engineers atthe beginning their industrial careers and those in later life whobecome involved with surfactants for the first time. The book is astraightforward and practical survey of the chemistry ofsurfactants and their uses, providing a basic introduction tosurfactant theory, information on the various types of surfactantand some application details. This will allow readers to build ontotheir scientific education the concepts and principles on which thesuccessful use of surfactants, across a wide range of industries,is based.

Book Effective Care of the Newborn Infant

Download or read book Effective Care of the Newborn Infant written by John C. Sinclair and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This companion volume to the highly acclaimed Effective Care in Pregnancy and Childbirth (OUP 1989, edited by Iain Chalmers et al.) evaluates the care of newborn infants. Medical research has produced an explosion of new knowledge concerning the causes, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of the newborn infant. As the pace of therapeutic innovation quickens, there is an increasing need for efficient access to information concerning the probable effects of therapy. This book meets the urgent demand for a systematic summary of the best available evidence concerning the expected outcomes of therapeutic decisions in neonatology. This revolutionary work consists fundamentally of quantitative reviews of randomized trials of alternative courses of action. It contains some 2000 new analyses of data from the clinical trials literature, representing the vast majority of randomized trials in neonatology. The result is the first systematic review of evidence from randomized clinical trials in this field and an explicit dissection of the research data supporting, or in some cases not supporting, clinical management of the newborn. This book will interest pediatricians, especially neonatologists; obstetricians, especially maternal-fetal medicine specialists; family practitioners; and epidemiologists.

Book Perspective Chapter

Download or read book Perspective Chapter written by Nur Liyana Ismail and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bio-based surfactants are surface-active compounds derived from oil and fats through the production of oleochemicals or from sugar. Various applications of bio-based surfactants include household detergents, personal care, agricultural chemicals, oilfield chemicals, industrial and institutional cleaning, and others. Due to the stringent environmental regulations imposed by governments around the world on the use of chemicals in detergents, as well as growing consumer awareness of environmental concerns, there has been a strong demand in the market for bio-based surfactants. Bio-based surfactants are recognized as a greener alternative to conventional petrochemical-based surfactants because of their biodegradability and low toxicity. As a result, more research is being done on producing novel biodegradable surfactants, either from renewable resources or through biological processes (bio-catalysis or fermentation). This chapter discusses the various types, feedstocks, and applications of bio-based surfactants, as well as the industrial state-of-the-art and market prospects for bio-based surfactant production. In addition, relevant technological challenges in this field are addressed, and a way forward is proposed.
