Download or read book Never Say I Am Bored Again written by M. Buckley and published by . This book was released on 2014-01-03 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We've all typed it into our search bar. "I am bored." There's always something new to entertain us. And once we get it we grow bored again. Boredom should be a small part of life. But it usually isn't. It's such an expected part of life that we pretend it's no big deal. We pretend we don't hear that voice that's saying, "You're going to die someday. Do something interesting." Boredom is evil. That's not an original statement. I stole it. But it doesn't matter. Because it's true. Tick, tock. This book is a way to save your life. Because your life = time. And boredom = waste of time.Waste of life. I'm not going to waste your life. I kept this book short for that sole reason. I kept it simple. And direct. I hope you use it well.

Book Out of My Skull

    Book Details:
  • Author : James Danckert
  • Publisher : Harvard University Press
  • Release : 2020-06-09
  • ISBN : 0674984676
  • Pages : 289 pages

Download or read book Out of My Skull written by James Danckert and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2020-06-09 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No one likes to be bored. Two leading psychologists explain what causes boredom and how to listen to what it is telling you, so you can live a more engaged life. We avoid boredom at all costs. It makes us feel restless and agitated. Desperate for something to do, we play games on our phones, retie our shoes, or even count ceiling tiles. And if we escape it this time, eventually it will strike again. But what if we listened to boredom instead of banishing it? Psychologists James Danckert and John Eastwood contend that boredom isn’t bad for us. It’s just that we do a bad job of heeding its guidance. When we’re bored, our minds are telling us that whatever we are doing isn’t working—we’re failing to satisfy our basic psychological need to be engaged and effective. Too many of us respond poorly. We become prone to accidents, risky activities, loneliness, and ennui, and we waste ever more time on technological distractions. But, Danckert and Eastwood argue, we can let boredom have the opposite effect, motivating the change we need. The latest research suggests that an adaptive approach to boredom will help us avoid its troubling effects and, through its reminder to become aware and involved, might lead us to live fuller lives. Out of My Skull combines scientific findings with everyday observations to explain an experience we’d like to ignore, but from which we have a lot to learn. Boredom evolved to help us. It’s time we gave it a chance.

Book Never Again

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jeremy Cameron
  • Publisher : Andrews UK Limited
  • Release : 2017-03-22
  • ISBN : 1909930458
  • Pages : 338 pages

Download or read book Never Again written by Jeremy Cameron and published by Andrews UK Limited. This book was released on 2017-03-22 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elderly British men display a variety of annoying habits. They write letters to the newspapers; they drink too much; they reminisce about the old days; they make lewd comments to younger women; they shout at the television screen; and they go for long walks and get lost. Jeremy Cameron chose the last of these options. Trying to emulate Patrick Leigh Fermor's feat of 1933, he walked from Hook of Holland to Istanbul. Leigh Fermor was a legendary figure. Scholar, multilinguist, beautiful prose stylist, war hero, tough guy, charmer and famous lover: Cameron is none of these things and he also suffers from a heart condition. Rest assured that there will be no tedious details of operations or stoicism in this book. Nor will there be descriptions of understated generosity, quiet irony or British phlegm. The main point of travel is to recognise the virtues of staying at home. When at home, it is not possible to get bogged down in Alpine snow, fall over on one's face on Kosovan tarmac or suffer a comprehensive mugging on deserted roads in Greece. Nor does one have to speak foreign languages, eat foreign food or, above all, drink terrible tea. It is about two thousand miles from Hook of Holland to Istanbul. Thirteen countries lie in wait for the walker. They have many wonderful sights and much fascinating history. Readers will not find them in this book. They will, however, find a number of stories of varying authenticity and some very dubious observations about life. By the time Turkey arrived, Cameron was utterly and completely fed up with the whole process. Never again would he do anything quite so stupid. He is currently walking round all the places in England beginning with the letter Q.

Book The Case of the Missing Silver Star

Download or read book The Case of the Missing Silver Star written by Marie-Louise Meyers and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2019-05-17 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridget couldn’t think of anything more boring or scary than going to a nursing home to visit her great-granddad, but her attitude changed when the Silver Star the old man carries around his neck on a red, white, and blue ribbon turns up missing. He is devastated and so is Bridget. “It’s right in front of your nose, dummy,” says the parrot on the gray lady’s shoulder. Bridget rises to the investigative challenge and conducts a heart-stopping search to find the culprit. I believe I bring a certain authenticity to both the dialogue and the narrative because of an internship in two nursing homes in the course of obtaining a master’s degree in counseling and my frequent visits to the assisted care where my dad resided. This, coupled with my background as an educator, allows me to bridge the generational gap. I think that this is an important read for families who have a relative in a nursing home. This book is a blend of humor and seriousness. Best of all, the seniors play a pivotal role in catching the thief, developing a new-found respect for the seniors we often forget are buried in institutions. The Case of the Missing Silver Star is well suited for young readers and seniors in assisted care. The pace kept both groups intrigued, and the humor and gumption of the seniors depicted in this book offsets any chance of feeling sorry for them for being tucked away in nursing homes. “This is a wake-up call,” says a retired policeman.

The Mob Squad were heroes not so long ago, but the adults are still in charge, and to them, even the most heroic kid is still just a kid. The Mob Squad’s leader, Mal, is still milking cows and dreaming of the next adventure. Their sharp-eyed archer Lenna is learning everything she can about the Overworld, but the horizon is still far away. Fearless warrior Chug is running a store with his brother, but his reputation for breaking stuff has some folks still calling him a bad apple. And his inventive brother, Tok . . . Wait, where did Tok go?! When the fourth member of the Mob Squad vanishes in the night, along with most of the town’s potions, Cornucopia’s elders think they’re dealing with a runaway thief. And if they’re going to stop it, Mal, Lenna, and Chug are on their own. Except, that is, for the one Cornucopian they least want to bring along: Jarro, the worst bully in the Overworld. But if they’re going to find Tok, they can’t just be three best friends and one total jerk. They’re going to need to learn how to work together all over again—because this is an adventure that can be accomplished only by the Mob Squad!
