Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This workbook is a companion to the Teacher's Edition of Never Ending Word Studies. Together, they were developed for use in a classroom situation for Bible schools, church programs, small groups, home school, or personal instruction. You will learn how to dig into your own Bible and find those nuggets of truth that seemed to be available only to the highly trained Bible teachers or pastors. This is a soup-to-nuts course anyone can use to get started on their own Bible study adventure. The Student Workbook starts with a description of the supplies you'll likely need, then will help you decide where to even start your Bible reading adventure. It will answer the question "Why" we study the Word, as well as teach how to journalize, how to write your own Scripture prayers, how to do word studies and how to do itemized, character and essay studies. By the time you have completed the course, you will have developed your first teaching, ready to present to a live audience. While the Student Workbook has much of the material found in the Teacher's Edition, many of the sample teachings and homework assignments are only available in the Teacher's Edition. The Student Workbook is for students usually in a classroom setting.

Book A Stone in My Shoe

Download or read book A Stone in My Shoe written by J. Michael Walters and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-06-15 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What’s more miserable than trying to walk with a stone in your shoe? Many American evangelicals are experiencing pain and discomfort in their relationship to the church. “Stones” in their shoes make the faith journey uncomfortable and increasingly untenable. They either leave the church altogether, become “church shoppers,” or live on the margins of the church as outliers. This book presents the vantage point of a lifelong evangelical pastor and religious educator who sees himself as an outlier. Walters draws on decades of pastoral life and classroom experience to engage the church in a conversation aimed at clarifying the concerns and discomforts of evangelical outliers. While this is one person’s story it intersects with the stories of many others in American evangelicalism, especially clergy. In identifying the stones which trouble and discomfort so many like him, Walters continually calls the church, his church, back to its biblical and theological foundations.

Book Writing Performance Identity and Everyday Life

Download or read book Writing Performance Identity and Everyday Life written by Ronald J. Pelias and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-03-13 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Writing Performance, Identity, and Everyday Life invites the reader into Ronald J. Pelias’ world of artistic and everyday performance. Calling upon a broad range of qualitative methods, these selected writings from Pelias submerge themselves in the evocative and embodied, in the material and consequential, often creating moving accounts of their topics. The book is divided into four sections: Foundational Logics, Performance, Identity, and Everyday Life. Part I addresses the methodological underpinnings of the book, focusing on the ‘touchstones’ that inform Pelias’ work: performative, autoethnographic, poetic, and narrative methods. These directions push the researcher toward empathic engagement, a leaning toward others; using the literary to evoke the cognitive and affective aspects of experience; and an ethical sensibility located in social justice. Parts II–IV focus on artistic and everyday life performances, including discussions of the disciplinary shift from the oral interpretation of literature to the field of performance studies; empathy and the actor’s process; conceptions of performance; the performance of race, gender, and sexuality; and performances in interpersonal relations and academic circles. By the end, readers will see Pelias demonstrate the power of qualitative methods to engage and to present alternative ways of being. Pelias’ work shows us how to understand and feel the evocative strength of thinking performatively.

Book Intentional From the Start

Download or read book Intentional From the Start written by Carolyn Helmers and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-10-10 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intentional from the Start: Guiding Emergent Readers in Small Groups, Carolyn Helmers and Susan Vincent take a concentrated look at the often-underestimated reading and writing work that occurs during the emergent reading stages of literacy development (PreA -D) and the seemingly simplistic books we use to teach them in small-group guided reading. Though both may appear unsophisticated, these earliest readers and the texts we use to meet their needs are each unique and full of nuances that generally go overlooked. The authors explore how emergent readers learn best and position text levels appropriately in the service of students. They also turn their attention to a comprehensive exploration of the particular needs of emergent readers and how the work they do at text levels PreA -D lays a critical foundation necessary for them to continue growing successfully into text levels E and beyond. As they examine the needs of learners working at each emergent text level individually, the authors:Detail specific demands books in that text level make on young readers and the best ways to coach students as they work through themHighlight instructional procedures for reading, writing, and word study that can be implemented immediately at your small group tableSuggest optimal schedules, techniques, and formats for efficient instruction at that levelUnpack the book characteristics specific to that level and demonstrate ways to capitalize on them to intentionally support emergent readers and writers. With plenty of useful classroom examples, as well as additional online resources with literacy center ideas that correlate directly with the work students are doing at particular levels, this book is a resource your emergent reading teacher heart will reach for again and again.
