Book Spectrum of Neutrons Emitted from a Thick Beryllium Target Bombarded with 7 MeV Deuterons

Download or read book Spectrum of Neutrons Emitted from a Thick Beryllium Target Bombarded with 7 MeV Deuterons written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spectrum of neutrons emitted from a thick beryllium target bombarded with 7 MeV deuterons is measured at 25 reaction angles distributed between 0° and 158°, and over the neutron energy range approx. =0.8 to11.0 MeV. The spectrum is determined relative to the standard 252Cf prompt-fission-neutron-spectrum using fast time-of-flight techniques. The results are presented as angle-energy differential distributions and as relative numerical group cross sections suitable for establishing a reference field for applied studies. 24 refs., 4 figs.

Book Measurement of the Neutron Spectrum from the Reaction of 30 MeV Deuterons on a Thick Beryllium Target

Download or read book Measurement of the Neutron Spectrum from the Reaction of 30 MeV Deuterons on a Thick Beryllium Target written by and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements were made of the neutron spectrum produced by bombarding a thick beryllium target with 30-MeV deuterons at the University of California, Davis cyclotron. This spectrum is of interest in studying the effect of neutrons on materials to be used in future fusion reactors. The spectrum was inferred from the activation of two sets of detector foils placed at 0° to the deuteron beam, one immediately behind the beryllium target block, and one 40 mm to the rear. A least-squares program was used to analyze the foil activation data to obtain the fluence in each of seven energy groups. The neutron spectrum (fluence/MeV) close to the target decreases continuously with energy in the range 5-32 MeV, while the spectrum 40 mm back has a peak at about 13 MeV. The contribution from neutrons of energies less than 10 MeV is much greater than that found in previous spectral measurements made at large distances from the target. This difference is attributed to the neutrons which are emitted at large angles from the deuteron beam. These observations show the importance of evaluating the neutron spectrum near the target if samples of materials are to be irradiated in this location. (auth).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The neutron spectra produced by bombarding a thick beryllium target with 30-MeV deuterons at the University of California, Davis, cyclotron was measured. These spectra are of interest in studying the effect of neutrons on materials to be used in future fusion reactors. The spectra were inferred from the activation of two sets of detector foils placed at an angle THETA = 0° to the deuteron beam, one immediately behind the beryllium target block, and one 40 mm to the rear. The SAND-II program was used to analyze the foil activation data to obtain the fluence in each of one hundred energy groups. The neutron spectrum (fluence/MeV) close to the target decreases continuously with energy in the range 2 to 30 MeV, while the spectrum 40 mm back has a minimum at about 8 MeV and a peak at about 14 MeV.

Book The Thick target 9Be d N Neutron Spectra for Deuteron Energies Between 2 6 and 7 0 MeV

Download or read book The Thick target 9Be d N Neutron Spectra for Deuteron Energies Between 2 6 and 7 0 MeV written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The measurement of the zero deg. neutron spectra and yields from deuterons incident on thick beryllium metal targets is described. 235U and 238U fission ion chambers were used as neutron detectors to span the neutron energy range above 0.05-MeV with a time resolution of (less-than or equal to) 3 nanosec. Measurements were made for incident deuteron energies from 2.6 to 7.0-MeV, at 0.4-MeV intervals, using time-of-flight techniques with flight paths of 2.7 and 6.8 meters. The results are presented in graphical form and in tables.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Double-differential measurements of neutron emission from a thick beryllium target bombarded with 7-MeV deuterons are made for neutrons above 800 keV, over the angular range of 0 to 155°. The angular dependence of the neutron yield is found to be quite anisotropic. The importance of this anisotropy in integral neutron-induced reaction cross-section investigations is illustrated. 7 refs.,

Book Thick target Neutron And Gamma ray Yields Induced by Medium energy Proton and Deuteron Bombardments

Download or read book Thick target Neutron And Gamma ray Yields Induced by Medium energy Proton and Deuteron Bombardments written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stopping samples of Lucite, Al, Fe, and 238U (Fe, and 238U) were irradiated with 330 MeV deuterons (260 MeV protons). For each target, neutron energy spectra and prompt .gamma.-ray yields were measured using the time-of-flight technique. The detector was a right cylindrical volume of deuterated benzene, 12.5-cm diameter x 7.5-cm long, located at 110° to the incident beam direction. The neutron yield and the prompt .gamma.-ray yield were found to depend upon the atomic number of the target and upon the incident projectile. The measured shape of the neutron energy spectrum was not strongly dependent on either the incident projectile or the target atomic number. A lower limit for absolute neutron yields was also obtained.
