Book Handbook of Prompt Gamma Activation Analysis

Download or read book Handbook of Prompt Gamma Activation Analysis written by G. Molnar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-02-23 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prompt gamma activation analysis (PGAA) is a unique, non-destructive nuclear analytical method with multi-element capabilities. It is most effective if intense neutron beams (especially cold beams) of nuclear reactors are used to induce the prompt gamma radiation. Based largely on the authors' pioneering research in cold neutron PGAA, the handbook describes the methodology in self-contained manner and reviews recent applications. The library of prompt gamma ray data and spectra for all natural elements is a unique aid to the practitioner. The level is understandable by a broad audience, which facilitates teaching and training. The Handbook of Prompt Gamma Activation Analysis is a comprehensive handbook written for those practising the method, wanting to implement it at a reactor facility, or just looking for a powerful non-destructive method of element analysis. The book is also useful for nuclear physics, chemistry and engineering scientists, scholars and graduate students interested in neutron-induced gamma ray spectroscopy and nuclear analytical methods.

Book Neutron and Gamma ray Spectroscopy and Activation Analysis

Download or read book Neutron and Gamma ray Spectroscopy and Activation Analysis written by Norman C. Rasmussen and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of this contract were to carry out basic research in the areas of neutron spectroscopy and dosimetry, gamma-ray spectroscopy and dosimetry, and activation analysis techniques. Early work in gamma-ray spectroscopy was done mostly with the bent crystal spectrometers and the triple coincidence scintillation spectrometer which were used in capture gamma-ray studies. Later, however, all the work in gamma-ray spectroscopy was in the development and application of lithium drifted Ge(Li) solid state detectors. A description is included of the fabrication techniques used and the application of these detectors to the study of capture gamma-rays and spent reactor fuel. Work on problems of neutron spectroscopy and dosimetry are described. This work resulted in an improved method for measuring fast neutron spectra through the use of foils. The work done in activation analysis is summarized.

Book Gamma ray Spectra of Resonance Neutron Irradiated Earth Materials

Download or read book Gamma ray Spectra of Resonance Neutron Irradiated Earth Materials written by R. P. Murrmann and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clay mineral and soil samples were subjected to neutron activation analysis in order to identify and measure the abundances of trace elements having radionuclides with long half-lives. After exposure of cadmium-shielded samples to neutrons for a period of five days, the gamma radiation associated with the decay of the resulting radionuclides was observed using a high resolution Ga(Li) detector. Trace elements identified without prior chemical separation using the gross gamma-ray spectra included Fe, Zn, Ti, Ni Co, Cr, Sr, Ba, Ca, La, Eu, Tb, Hf, Ta, Th, and U. It should be possible to determine quantitatively the amount of each of these elements. This is a considerable improvement over the number of elements determined in soils previously by activation analysis without destructive chemical treatments. (Author).

Book Applied Gamma Ray Spectrometry

Download or read book Applied Gamma Ray Spectrometry written by C. E. Crouthamel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 776 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Gamma-Ray Spectrometry covers real life application of the gamma-ray and the devices used in their experimental studies. This book is organized into 9 chapters, and starts with discussions of the various decay processes, the possible interaction mechanisms of gamma radiation with matter, and the intrinsic and extrinsic variables, which affect the observed gamma-ray and X-ray spectra. The subsequent chapters deal with the properties and fabrication of scintillation detectors, semiconductor detectors, and proportional gas counters. These chapters present some of the most widely utilized applications of these detectors, with a particular emphasis to the activation analysis. These topics are followed by reviews of the description of basic equipment, such as amplifiers, analyzers, special spectrometer arrangements, and detector shielding. Other chapters describe energy and time resolution and quantitative calibration. The quantitative and qualitative interpretation of the spectra is also explained, along with the calibration of the detectors. The last chapter considers the analytical applications of gamma-ray and X-ray spectrometry in tracer studies, activation analysis, fission product studies, and X-ray fluorescence analysis. This book will be of value to analytical chemists and analytical chemistry researchers.

Book Time resolved Gamma ray Spectroscopy with the GEARS Detector

Download or read book Time resolved Gamma ray Spectroscopy with the GEARS Detector written by Thomas Alexander Domingo and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Simon Fraser University Nuclear Science Laboratory (SFU NSL) joined into two collaborations, each with an interest in monitoring Fukushima-derived cesium-134 and cesium-137 in various environmental samples. The first investigated Fukushima-derived contamination in soil and three species of Pacific salmon, sockeye, chum, and Chinook. The second investigated Fukushima-derived contamination in sockeye salmon, Dungeness crab, and kelp. In both of these monitoring campaigns, the maximum radiocesium activity concentrations observed were significantly below Health Canada's regulatory limits with the conclusion drawn that there is no health risk to the average Canadian seafood consumer. The Neutron Generator Facility at SFU NSL has recently acquired a Thermo Scientific P 385 neutron generator capable of activating samples, inducing radioactivity in them which may be studied via time-resolved gamma-ray spectroscopy. Recording timing information is a prerequisite of these studies therefore, a new data acquisition (DAQ) system was installed with the Germanium detector for Elemental Analysis and Radioactivity Studies enabling timing measurements to take place. The new DAQ system was benchmarked via the measurement of two neutron activated metals, verifying its stability and precision.
