Book Nonlinear Estimation and Classification

Download or read book Nonlinear Estimation and Classification written by David D. Denison and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Researchers in many disciplines face the formidable task of analyzing massive amounts of high-dimensional and highly-structured data. This is due in part to recent advances in data collection and computing technologies. As a result, fundamental statistical research is being undertaken in a variety of different fields. Driven by the complexity of these new problems, and fueled by the explosion of available computer power, highly adaptive, non-linear procedures are now essential components of modern "data analysis," a term that we liberally interpret to include speech and pattern recognition, classification, data compression and signal processing. The development of new, flexible methods combines advances from many sources, including approximation theory, numerical analysis, machine learning, signal processing and statistics. The proposed workshop intends to bring together eminent experts from these fields in order to exchange ideas and forge directions for the future.

Book Churn Prediction Methods Evaluation and Implementation for Telecom Industry

Download or read book Churn Prediction Methods Evaluation and Implementation for Telecom Industry written by Yingwen Ren and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the rapid growth in the telecom market, there is an emerging trend to focus on customer retention, which is a critical factor for designing future customer incentive strategies to help a company manage customer relationships. Our main contribution is to build an effective churn prediction system for a telecom company providing real-time communication to predict whether a customer may cease to do business with the company, i.e., stop using the service provided by the company to make phone calls. Due to the dynamic market environment, developing such a system is challenging, as it should not involve frequent retraining processes, leading to a high computational cost. Many different techniques are available to identify customers who are most likely to leave, however, which technique is the most suitable and applicable in practice is not clear because the performance of prediction methods depends heavily on the characteristics of the data. In our thesis, we implemented and evaluated two methods, namely MLP (Multilayer Perceptron) and WTTE-RNN (Weibull Time To Event Recurrent Neural Network), and the model evaluation is based on accuracy and computational cost. We conducted experiments on the real-world dataset containing customer call activity records, experimental results demonstrate that the model performance of MLP is better than the WTTE-RNN, achieving a higher AUC, precision, and Recall. Considering the computational cost, the WTTE-RNN takes more time than the MLP as the WTTE-RNN needs to be retrained, it cannot be directly applied for new data. Furthermore, a detailed feature engineering process was presented in our project, especially how to extract temporal call behavior from raw data. A user-friendly interface was implemented, in order to let users better use our churn prediction system.

Download or read book Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery written by Mukesh K. Mohania and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-08-28 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data warehousing and knowledge discovery are increasingly becoming mission-critical technologies for most organizations, both commercial and public, as it becomes incre- ingly important to derive important knowledge from both internal and external data sources. With the ever growing amount and complexity of the data and information available for decision making, the process of data integration, analysis, and knowledge discovery continues to meet new challenges, leading to a wealth of new and exciting research challenges within the area. Over the last decade, the International Conference on Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK) has established itself as one of the most important international scientific events within data warehousing and knowledge discovery. DaWaK brings together a wide range of researchers and practitioners working on these topics. The DaWaK conference series thus serves as a leading forum for discu- ing novel research results and experiences within data warehousing and knowledge th discovery. This year’s conference, the 11 International Conference on Data Wa- housing and Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK 2009), continued the tradition by d- seminating and discussing innovative models, methods, algorithms, and solutions to the challenges faced by data warehousing and knowledge discovery technologies.
