Book Neural Network Architectures for Prepositional Phrase Attachment Disambiguation

Download or read book Neural Network Architectures for Prepositional Phrase Attachment Disambiguation written by Yonatan Belinkov and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis addresses the problem of Prepositional Phrase (PP) attachment disambiguation, a key challenge in syntactic parsing. In natural language sentences, a PP may often be attached to several possible candidates. While humans can usually identify the correct candidate successfully, syntactic parsers are known to have high error rated on this kind of construction. This work explores the use of compositional models of meaning in choosing the correct attachment location. The compositional model is defined using a recursive neural network. Word vector representations are obtained from large amounts of raw text and fed into the neural network. The vectors are first forward propagated up the network in order to create a composite representation, which is used to score all possible candidates. In training, errors are back-propagated down the network such that the composition matrix is updated from the supervised data. Several possible neural architectures are designed and experimentally tested in both English and Arabic data sets. As a comparative system, we offer a learning-to-rank algorithm based on an SVM classifier which has access to a wide range of features. The performance of this system is compared to the compositional models.

Download or read book Hybrid Neural Systems written by Stefan Wermter and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-12-30 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hybrid neural systems are computational systems which are based mainly on artificial neural networks and allow for symbolic interpretation or interaction with symbolic components. This book is derived from a workshop held during the NIPS'98 in Denver, Colorado, USA, and competently reflects the state of the art of research and development in hybrid neural systems. The 26 revised full papers presented together with an introductory overview by the volume editors have been through a twofold process of careful reviewing and revision. The papers are organized in the following topical sections: structured connectionism and rule representation; distributed neural architectures and language processing; transformation and explanation; robotics, vision, and cognitive approaches.

Book The Syntax of Dutch

Download or read book The Syntax of Dutch written by Jan-Wouter Zwart and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-15 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dutch is a West-Germanic language closely related to English and German, but its special properties have long aroused interest and debate among students of syntax. This is an informative guide to the syntax of Dutch, offering an extensive survey of both the phenomena of Dutch syntax and their theoretical analyses over the years. In particular the book discusses those aspects of Dutch syntax that have played an important role in the development of syntactic theory in recent decades. Presupposing only a basic knowledge of syntax and complete with an extensive bibliography, this survey will be an important tool for students and linguists of all theoretical persuasions, and for anyone working in Germanic linguistics, linguistic typology and linguistic theory.
