Book The Closed Society and Its Ligatures A Critique Using the Example of Landscape

Download or read book The Closed Society and Its Ligatures A Critique Using the Example of Landscape written by Olaf Kühne and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-02-18 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the face of great challenges, utopian thinking is currently in vogue. The fact that utopias, with their ideas of an idealized target society, are not compatible with the basic features of an Open Society was already pointed out by Karl Popper in his book 'Die Offene Gesellschaft und ihre Feinde' (The Open Society and its Enemies) under the impression of National Socialism and Stalinism. In the present book, further forms of Closed Societies and the principal similarities (and differences) of their construction are examined. This is done by drawing on Ralf Dahrendorf's concept of life chances, in which he deals with the interaction of options and ligatures. The ambivalence of Dahrendorf's understanding of ligatures, since they restrict options on the one hand, but also give them meaning on the other, is resolved by a threefold differentiation: into ethical and moral, internally and externally directed, and explicit and implicit ligatures. While the former are capable of enabling life chances, the latter tend to limit them. Based on this, the authors elaborate on the landscape (side) consequences of various closed societies and how ill-suited they are for dealing with current challenges.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume II deals with philosophy of mathematics and general philosophy of (natural) science. In discussing theoretical entities, the notion of antirealism formulated in Volume I is further elaborated: Contrary to what is usually attributed to antirealism or idealism, the author does not claim that theoretical entities do not really exist, but rather that their existence is not independent of the possibility to know about them.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creative force or creative shaping? This unprecedented effort to plumb the workings of the ontopoiesis of life by disentangling its primordial forces and shaping devices as they enter into the originary matrixes of life yields fascinating insights. Prepared by the investigation of the first two matrixes (the 'womb of life' and 'sharing-in-life', Analecta Husserliana Volume 74) the present collection of essays focuses upon the third and crowning creative matrix, Imaginatio Creatrix here proves itself to be the source and driving force which brings us to the origins of the human mind - human life. Book Freedom and Resentment Freiheit und Groll Englisch Deutsch Great Papers Philosophie

Download or read book Freedom and Resentment Freiheit und Groll Englisch Deutsch Great Papers Philosophie written by Peter F. Strawson and published by Reclam Verlag. This book was released on 2024-10-11 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Was zeichnet einen Vorwurf also aus?

Book New Research on the Philosophy of Nicolai Hartmann

Download or read book New Research on the Philosophy of Nicolai Hartmann written by Keith Peterson and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2016-01-29 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The imposing scope and penetrating insights of German philosopher Nicolai Hartmann’s work have received renewed interest in recent years. The Neo-Kantian turned ontological realist established a philosophical approach unique among his peers, and it provides a wealth of resources for considering contemporary philosophical problems. The chapters included in this volume examine his ethics, ontology, aesthetics, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of nature. They explore his ontology of values, autonomy and human enhancement, and law; his theory of levels of reality, space-time and geometry, the categories of temporality, causality, and “life,” the question of realism, and social ontology. Others take inspiration from his aesthetic theory, ideas about education, and his embrace of the Socratic pathos of wonder. They bring his philosophy into conversation with that of his contemporaries, including Roman Ingarden and Konrad Lorenz’s appropriation of Hartmann, as well as with the history of philosophy, including Plato’s theory of recollection, pre-Socratic philosophy, and that of his Russian teacher Nikolai Lossky. Those familiar with Hartmann’s wide-ranging systematic philosophy will benefit from these new engagements with his work, and those new to it will find them relevant to a number of current philosophical debates.

Book The Dialectics of the Religious and the Secular

Download or read book The Dialectics of the Religious and the Secular written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-05-28 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dialectics of the Religious and the Secular: Studies on the Future of Religion contains the work of fifteen international scholars who have wrestled with the question of the relevancy, meaning, and future of religion within the context of the increasing antagonisms between the religious and secular realms of modern civil society and its globalization. Through their chosen topics in analyzing these issues in the 20th and 21st centuries, each author also indicates the possibility of mitigating if not preventing the continuation of this antagonism by historically moving toward a more reconciled and humane future global society. Book The Concept of Will in Classical German Philosophy

Download or read book The Concept of Will in Classical German Philosophy written by Manja Kisner and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-06-08 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume collects thirteen original essays that address the concept of will in Classical German Philosophy from Kant to Schopenhauer. During this short, but prolific period, the concept of will underwent various transformations. While Kant identifies the will with pure practical reason, Fichte introduces, in the wake of Reinhold, an originally biological concept of drive into his ethical theory, thereby expanding on the Kantian notion of the will. Schelling, Hegel, and Schopenhauer take a step further and conceive the will either as a primal being (Schelling), as a socio-ontological entity (Hegel), or as a blindly striving, non-rational force (Schopenhauer). Thus, the history of the will is marked by a complex set of tensions between rational and non-rational aspects of practical volition. The book outlines these transformations from a historical and systematic point of view. It offers an overview of the most important theories of the will by the major figures of Classical German Philosophy, but also includes interpretations of conceptions developed by lesser-studied philosophers such as Maimon, Jacobi, Reinhold, and Bouterwek.

Book Neues System der philosophischen Wissenschaften im Grundriss

Download or read book Neues System der philosophischen Wissenschaften im Grundriss written by Dirk Hartmann and published by Brill U Mentis. This book was released on 2024 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hegel called the object of psychology the "subjective spirit" and the object of the humanities the "objective spirit". In accordance with this distinction, the overarching theme of Volume V is the conceptual analysis of the mental and cultural domain in the form of a special philosophy of science of psychology (25) and a general philosophy of science of the humanities (26). Regarding psychology, philosophy of science is specifically facing the question: "How is an objective empirical science of the subjective possible?" In order to be able to answer this, basic terms of general psychology, such as learning, perception, intelligence, and emotion, are reconstructed - also with regard to the latest developments in AI research. Natural sciences primarily underpin technical practices, whereas humanities underpin the socio-political practice of conflict management as well as the culturally reflexive self-assurance of human beings. This distinction is the starting point for a general philosophy of science of the humanities. Among the questions addressed here are: "What is an explanation of historical events?", "How can literary criticism be done scientifically?", and "What is art?".
