Download or read book Capital Emerging High Growth Firms and Public Policy written by Terry F. Buss and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2001-03-30 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Policy makers--Republican and Democrat, liberal and conservative--call for federal intervention to fund emerging high-growth industries, believing they are starved for capital. Congressional hearings, newspapers, industry newsletters, and government reports all assert that capital gaps exist for these firms. But the widely held belief that emerging high-growth firms like those in high technology--so vital to the growth of the U.S. economy--face severe capital gaps, preventing them from starting up or growing to their full potential, is false. This book systematically brings together, for the first time, disparate sources of information from a wide variety of disciplines and synthesizes them into a compelling case against federal intervention. Scientific studies, conventional wisdom among entrepreneurs and investors, and economic reasoning all fail to support the existence of widespread capital gaps for start-up high-growth firms. Nor does this evidence show capital in short supply in some regions, in industrial sectors including high technology, or for women and minorities. Nor do existing federal programs providing capital to emerging high-growth businesses reveal capital gaps. Rather, they either unnecessarily duplicate private investment or represent poor investment decisions. This study shows that calls for increased federal intervention, using public monies to plug capital gaps, are unjustified.
Download or read book South African Literature s Russian Soul written by Jeanne-Marie Jackson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-10-22 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do great moments in literary traditions arise from times of intense social and political upheaval? South African Literature's Russian Soul charts the interplay of narrative innovation and political isolation in two of the world's most renowned non-European literatures. In this book, Jeanne-Marie Jackson demonstrates how Russian writing's “Golden Age” in the troubled nineteenth-century has served as a model for South African writers both during and after apartheid. Exploring these two isolated literary cultures alongside each other, the book challenges the limits of "global" methodologies in contemporary literary studies and outdated models of center-periphery relations to argue for a more locally involved scale of literary enquiry with more truly global horizons.
Download or read book Onkant written by Hendrik Hancke and published by Jonathan Ball Publishers. This book was released on 2023-08-31 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "TOE EK IN MY EERSTE WÊRELDBEKERWEDSTRYD UITDRAF, WAS DAAR IETS SOOS 54 000 MENSE. JY SIEN NET KAMERAFLITSE, DIS AMPER HIPNOTIES . . . DIE COACH SKREE VIR MY: 'CHUCKY, WAARMEE IS JY BESIG?'
