Download or read book Practices of Poverty Measurement and Poverty Profile of Nepal written by Devendra Chhetry and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2009-03 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reviews the poverty measuring practices, available measures of poverty, and economic growth figures of Nepal. The poverty rates for FY 1976-77, 1984-85, and 1995-96 are found to be not comparable due to change in methodology over time. The three poverty rates average 40%. Nepal has experienced high economic growth during the 7th (1985-86 to 1989-90) and 8th (1992-93 to 1996-97) Plan periods with no strong evidences of poverty reduction. This incompatible result is partially explained by comparing growth of the agricultural sector with the role of the sector in providing employment and income generation at the household level, and by comparing social indicators particularly literacy rate with the growth of the nonagricultural sector. Book excerpt: "The unprecedented economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, together with school closures and inadequate government assistance, is pushing children into exploitative and dangerous child labor. As their parents have lost jobs or income due to the pandemic and associated lockdowns, many children have entered the workforce to help their families survive. Many work long, grueling hours for little or no pay, often under hazardous conditions. Some report violence, harassment, and pay theft. [This report] is based on interviews conducted from January to March 2021 with 81 children, ages 8-17, in Ghana, Nepal, and Uganda.... The report examines the impact of the pandemic on children's rights, including their rights to education, to an adequate standard of living, and to protection from child labor, as well as government responses."--Page 4 of cover.

This program integrates six basic principles: Institutions based upon principles of good governance. Transformative leadership using results-based management. Core values and gender equality. Self-reliance through leveraging and enterprise development Local government reform through meaningful decentralization, and Extreme poverty elimination through community collaboration and unity. When Jim Mayfield asked Radhika's daughter what career she wanted to have when she finished her schooling, she said with confidence she wanted to become a lawyer and help her people. Tears sprang to Radhika's eyes when she heard this. When he asked Radhika if she had a dream when she was her daughter's age, she replied: "I had no dream!" Today, Radhika, a woman from the Dalit caste (poorest of the poor), is a successful businesswoman and has been elected to her local ward council.
