Download or read book The Geological Record of Neoproterozoic Glaciations written by Emmanuelle Arnaud and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2011 with total page 750 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, interest in Neoproterozoic glaciations has grown as their pivotal role in Earth system evolution has become increasingly clear. One of the main goals of the IGCP Project number 512 was to produce a synthesis of newly available information on Neoproterozoic successions worldwide. This Memoir consists of a series of overview chapters followed by site-specific chapters. The overviews cover key topics including the history of research on Neoproterozoic glaciations, identification of glacial deposits, chemostratigraphic techniques and datasets, palaeomagnetism, biostratigraphy, geochronology and climate modelling. The site specific chapters include reviews of the history of research on these rocks and up-to-date syntheses of the structural framework, tectonic setting, palaeomagnetic & geochronological constraints, physical, biological, and chemical stratigraphy, and descriptions of the glaciogenic and associated strata, including economic deposits.

Book excerpt: This summary report commences with a brief metallogenic overview of the northern Pacific Rim, with particular attention paid to the world-class Mesozoic and Cenozoic ore deposits that define the region's premier metallogenic provinces. This is followed by a summary of the relative attractiveness of the region's various mining jurisdictions, as recorded by recent exploration activity.

Book Belt Basin Window to Mesoproterozoic Earth

Download or read book Belt Basin Window to Mesoproterozoic Earth written by John S. MacLean and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2016-06-01 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With its thickness of more than 15 km of strata, covering some 200,000 km2, the Belt basin displays one of the planet's largest, best-exposed, most accessible, and best-preserved sequences of Mesoproterozoic sedimentary and igneous rocks. This volume focuses on research into this world-class province; kindles ideas about this critical era of Earth evolution; and covers aspects of the basin from its paleontology, mineralogy, sedimentology, and stratigraphy to its magmatism, ore deposits, geophysics, and structural geology.

Book Uppermost Proterozoic Formations in Central Mackenzie Mountains Northwest Territories

Download or read book Uppermost Proterozoic Formations in Central Mackenzie Mountains Northwest Territories written by James D. Aitken and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1989 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This bulletin provides a full description of the characteristics and stratigraphic relationships of the Sheepbed and younger formations of the central Mackenzie Mountains, and establishes new nomenclature for the Proterozoic post-Sheepbed formations. The earliest occurrences of fossils are placed in a clear relationship both to the youngest of the Proterozoic glacigenic deposits and the oldest Cambrian strata of the region. Four definitions of formations are proposed (Gametrail, Blueflower, Risky, and Ingta formations), with information on origin of name, type & reference sections, boundaries, dimensions, age, correlation, and origin.

Book Trace Fossils as Indicators of Sedimentary Environments

Download or read book Trace Fossils as Indicators of Sedimentary Environments written by Dirk Knaust and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2012-12-31 with total page 955 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integration of ichnological information into sedimentological models, and vice versa, is one of the main means by which we can improve our understanding of ancient depositional environments. Mainly intended for sedimentologists, this book aims to make ichnological methods as part of facies interpretation more popular, providing an analytical review of the ichnology of all major depositional environments and the use of ichnology in biostratigraphic and sequence stratigraphic analysis. It starts with an introduction to the historical aspect of ichnology, introducing common concepts and methods, and then continues with parts treating the main depositional systems from continental, shallow-marine and deep-marine siliciclastics, and marine carbonates. The last part is dedicated to the ichnology in hydrocarbon reservoir and aquifer characterization. - First overview in 25 years of the status of ichnological studies in facies reconstructions of all major depositional environments - Written by a selected, well-experienced and specialized international authorship - Provides easy access to the comprehensive and widespread literature

Book From River to Rock Record

Download or read book From River to Rock Record written by Stephanie K. Davidson and published by . This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last couple of decades, fluvial geomorphology and fluvial sedimentary geology have been developing in parallel, rather than in conjunction as might be desired. This volume is the result of the editors' attempt to bridge this gap in order to understand better how sediments in modern rivers become preserved in the rock record, and to improve interpretation from that record of the history of past environmental conditions. The catalyst for the volume was a conference with the same title hosted at the University of Aberdeen School of Geosciences, in Aberdeen, Scotland, on 12-14 January 2009.
