Book Diseases of the Brain Head and Neck Spine 2020 2023

Download or read book Diseases of the Brain Head and Neck Spine 2020 2023 written by Juerg Hodler and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-14 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book offers an essential overview of brain, head and neck, and spine imaging. Over the last few years, there have been considerable advances in this area, driven by both clinical and technological developments. Written by leading international experts and teachers, the chapters are disease-oriented and cover all relevant imaging modalities, with a focus on magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography. The book also includes a synopsis of pediatric imaging. IDKD books are rewritten (not merely updated) every four years, which means they offer a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art in imaging. The book is clearly structured and features learning objectives, abstracts, subheadings, tables and take-home points, supported by design elements to help readers navigate the text. It will particularly appeal to general radiologists, radiology residents, and interventional radiologists who want to update their diagnostic expertise, as well as clinicians from other specialties who are interested in imaging for their patient care.

Book Genomics and Pharmacogenomics in Anticancer Drug Development and Clinical Response

Download or read book Genomics and Pharmacogenomics in Anticancer Drug Development and Clinical Response written by Federico Innocenti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-10-30 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genomics and Pharmacogenomics in Anticancer Drug Development and Clinical Response provides the most comprehensive body of knowledge available on the role of genetic and genomic variation in the individualization of drug therapies in cancer patients. As a consequence of the intrinsic chromosomal and genetic instability of the tumor genome, it is generally believed that tailoring of chemotherapy in cancer - tients might be achieved by molecular analysis of patient tumor DNA. In addition, to reduce the toxicity risk of patients, the tumor DNA information should be in- grated with the available data on polymorphic drug-metabolizing enzyme and tra- porter genes mediating the exposure of patients to active drugs and/or their active metabolites. The chapters of this book clearly show how DNA information from both the host (germline) and the tumor should be taken into account for rational selection of drug therapies in cancer patients, an aspect that received little attention, despite its importance. The availability of new molecular approaches to the selection of drug therapy is an emerging need, because the traditional approach based on the evaluation of patient and tumor characteristics is clearly far from optimal. Many treated patients do not experience signi?cant bene?ts from the treatment, while they often experience moderate to severe toxicities. In addition, the development and clinical use of novel molecularly targeted agents (alone or in combination with classical cytotoxic therapy) requires the und- standing of the molecular features of the tumors and the identi?cation of tumor markers of response.

Book Peritoneal Carcinomatosis Principles of Management

Download or read book Peritoneal Carcinomatosis Principles of Management written by Paul H. Sugarbaker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul Sugarbaker and his colleagues have persevered in the study and treat ment of peritoneal carcinomatosis. The peritoneal cavity has many unique and incompletely appreciated properties. These properties, coupled with the biologic behavior of many cancers, results in the seeding and growth of these cancers on the peritoneum. Many of these cancers remain localized to the peritoneum only, never metastasizing to other sites. One possible reason for this may be the obstruction of the afferent lymphatics on the undersurface of the diaphragm. The mucopolysaccharides produced by many of these neoplasma are probably viscous enough to obstruct these lymphatics, leading to the syndrome of pseudomyxoma peritonei. Many of the neoplasms taking residence on the peritoneum have extremely long cell-cycle times and are resistant to radiotherapy and many chemotherapeutic agents. How ever, much can be done for these patients - resection of primary cancers, omentectomies to reduce ascites formation, management of recurrent ascites, management of intestinal obstruction, nutritional care, and, hopefully, intraperitoneal chemotherapy. We have reviewed many of these problems in the past [1-7]. Dr. Sugarbaker and his colleagues have organized the current state of knowledge and technology for continuing use. The book provides a basis for thoughtful, prospective research planning. John S. Spratt, M. D. , F. A. C. S. Book Conversion of Neoplasms by Topography and Morphology from the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology ICD O first Edition and Field Trials to International Classification of Diseases for Oncology Second Edition ICD O 2

Download or read book Conversion of Neoplasms by Topography and Morphology from the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology ICD O first Edition and Field Trials to International Classification of Diseases for Oncology Second Edition ICD O 2 written by Valerie Van Holten and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Epidemiologists, statisticians, oncologists as well as tumor registrars are interested in studying trends in both incidence and mortality. To be able to compare data from one period to another, it is essential that conversion tables be available. The following conversion (comparison or equivalency) tables are from ICD-O-1 and the Field Trial editions to ICD-0-2. These tables are divided into Topography and Morphology. There is only one conversion table for the topography since ICD-O-1 and the Field Trials used the same Topography section. However there are three tables for Morphology: one for ICD-O-1, one for the Field Trials, and one for special codes introduced by the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER) of the National Cancer Institute (NCI).

With chapters written by leading experts, the volume addresses the burgeoning interest in a rapidly advancing field and provides a valuable resource to scientists who have initiated research as well as clinical investigations in their laboratories on the various roles of NO and cancer.

Book Neoplasms Principles of Development and Diversity

Download or read book Neoplasms Principles of Development and Diversity written by Jules J. Berman and published by Jones & Bartlett Learning. This book was released on 2009 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique text is devoted to the full range of neoplastic properties exhibited by the comprehensive collection of human neoplasms. Like no other book of it's kind, it approaches cancer biology by surveying the diversity of neoplasms and by building a classification of neoplasms based on an understanding of the cellular options for tumor development. By grouping neoplasms into a comprehensive classification, we can develop class-specific methods to prevent, detect, and treat cancers. The book is divided into three broad units: speciation, classification and eradication. In the process of developing a classification for neoplasms, dozens of the fundamental questions in neoplastic development are asked and answered. Neoplasms provides readers with a fascinating and enjoyable way to learn the otherwise arcane and dense subject of human tumor diversity.
