Book excerpt: Mike Crowe doesn't believe in ghosts, but it seems there's one ghost that believes in him. Can he escape the attention of a psychopath long enough to help her? A not-exactly legal PI, Crowe is blackmailed into tracking down a serial killer known as The Scavenger. At the same time, he finds himself increasingly plagued by visions - and eventually visitations - of a young girl he failed to save from being murdered a decade before. Are these things connected? Crowe must scavenge through the debris of a world going to pieces around him - at first just to survive and then to find the answers to questions he'd rather hadn't been asked. 'Scavengers is smart, dark, riveting crime fiction at its best. This is Hood at the top of his game.' - Kaaron Warren, author of The Grief Hole, Into Bones Like Oil, and Tide of Stone.

Book Ace of Shades A Humorous Paranormal Women s Fiction

Download or read book Ace of Shades A Humorous Paranormal Women s Fiction written by Deborah Wilde and published by Te Da Media Inc.. This book was released on 2022-10-17 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ace of Shades, the thrilling finale, features a later in life romance, a heart-pounding mystery, and a magical midlife adventure. Gehenna isn’t on Google Maps and there’s no Angel Annihilation for Dummies. To Miriam Feldman, list lover extraordinaire, this is an irritating oversight. It’s fine. She’s got this mission under control. Sure, her instructions are vague, and her team is trigger-happy, but she’s got plenty of motivation to carry them to victory. Vengeance counts, right? Plus, if ridding the world of celestial menaces doesn’t top up Miri’s karmic bank, then stopping a vampire contagion will definitely earn her some good will. Unless it gets her killed. That’s a distinct possibility. One which she refuses to worry about since she’s got her shiny new relationship with a sexy wolf shifter to enjoy. And honestly, his family dysfunction is making hers look pretty damn insignificant. How’s that for positive thinking? She’s going to nail this. Happily-ever-after, here she comes. Fans of Jana DeLeon, Robyn Peterman, and KF Breene, will adore Miri, a smart older heroine with zero effs left to give! Let’s get you reading!

Book The Indian in American Southern Literature

Download or read book The Indian in American Southern Literature written by Melanie Benson Taylor and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-07-16 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indians are everywhere and nowhere in the US South. Cloaked by a rhetoric of disappearance after Indian Removal, actual southeastern tribal groups are largely invisible but immortalized in regional mythologies, genealogical lore, romanticized stereotypes, and unpronounceable place names. These imaginary 'Indians' compose an ideological fiction inextricable from that of the South itself. Often framed as hindrances to the Cotton Kingdom, Indians were in fact active participants in the plantation economy and chattel slavery before and after Removal. Dialectical tropes of Indigeneity linger in the white southern imagination in order to both conceal and expose the tangle of land, labor, and race as formative, disruptive categories of being and meaning. This book is not, finally, about the recovery of the region's lost Indians, but a reckoning with their inaccessible traces, ambivalent functions, and the shattering implications of their repressed significance for modern southern identity.
