Book Neogene Micropaleontology and Stratigraphy of Argentina

Download or read book Neogene Micropaleontology and Stratigraphy of Argentina written by Hugo Marengo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-02-19 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers and updates the most significant advances of the last two centuries and presents an unprecedented micro paleontological study covering more than 20 stratigraphic sections. This information is supplemented by numerous sedimentological observations and analyses, on the basis of which a new lithostratigraphic framework for the Neogene of the Chacoparanense Basin is proposed. The book is structured in an easy-to-read format: Its main section offers a comprehensive review of the current state of knowledge on transgressions in Argentina and similar transgressions in other South American countries, taking into account various key aspects (age, paleoenvironment, micropaleontology, etc.). Secondly, the book presents the main results on the TLP and TEP of the Chacoparanense Basin and the TEP of the Península de Valdés. Lastly, it provides readers with complete stratigraphic profiles (Appendix A), mineralogical analyses (Appendix B), distribution charts (Appendix C), systematics (Appendix D) and plates (Appendix E).

Book Neogene and Quaternary Quantitative Palynostratigraphy and Paleoclimatology from Sections in Yukon and Adjacent Northwest Territories and Alaska

Download or read book Neogene and Quaternary Quantitative Palynostratigraphy and Paleoclimatology from Sections in Yukon and Adjacent Northwest Territories and Alaska written by J. M. White and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study provides a framework biostratigraphy for pollen and spores in the Neogene and Quaternary of Yukon and adjacent Northwest Territories & Alaska. This biozonation is useful for correlating continental rocks with rocks on the northern continental margin, including the petroliferous Beaufort-Mackenzie Basin. This framework biozonation achieves an absolute chronology based on the study of many continental sections where ages are determined by independent and absolute measures. The study assembles the biozonation from seven sections and one borehole, and the palynological spectra from 163 samples from these sections were grouped & averaged to produce 21 composite spectra that depict the long-term pattern of vegetation change ranging from Early Miocene to late Quaternary. Pollen and spores are grouped and summed by environmental tolerances and physiognomy of the modern families & genera of plants to which they are related. Using these groups, pollen and spore ratios are drawn to track environmental parameters (temperature, forest canopy cover, and paludification) of the study sites. Biostratigraphic and paleoecological patterns are explained in terms of known changes in the global climate and the climatic effects of regional tectonics. Six assemblage zones and five subzones are proposed to describe the palynological succession.

Book Anatomy of an Orogen The Apennines and Adjacent Mediterranean Basins

Download or read book Anatomy of an Orogen The Apennines and Adjacent Mediterranean Basins written by F. Vai and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-12-21 with total page 637 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book in English reviewing and updating the geology of the whole Apennines, one of the recent most uplifted mountains in the world. The Apennines are the place from which Steno (1669) first stated the principles of geology. The Apennines also represent amongst others, the finding/testing sites of processes and products like volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, olistostromes and mélanges (argille scagliose), salinity crisis, geothermal fluids, thrust-top basins, and turbidites (first represented in a famous Leonardo's painting). As such, the Apennines are a testing and learning ground readily accessible and rich of any type of field data. A growing literature is available most of which is not published in widely available journals. The objective of the book is to provide a synthesis of current data and ideas on the Apennines, for the most part simply written and suitable for an international audience. However, sufficient details and in-depth analyses of the various complex settings have been presented to make this material useful to professional scholars and to students of senior university courses.

Book The African Neogene Climate Environments and People

Download or read book The African Neogene Climate Environments and People written by Jürgen Runge and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-10-12 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the Neogene – covering the last 23 Million years – the evolution of the environmental setting in Africa was subject to considerable changes. Natural shifts, slow and rapid, evidenced by modifications in palaeogeography, geodynamics, climate, and vegetation have caused repeated and strong changes of ecosystems in the lower latitudes. Using a variety of proxy data – researched and applied by many authors from numerous disciplines – an attempt is made to reconstruct African landscapes over space and time. Besides such spatio-temporal oscillations in recently humid, semi-humid, and dry areas of Africa, this volume of Palaeoecology of Africa (PoA) focuses on long term interrelationships between ecosystem dynamics and climate change, not ignoring the ever growing and ongoing influence of humans on natural ecosystems since the Quaternary. Regionally, this volume lays a strong focus on Nigeria (Niger Delta). Facing the omnipresent challenges of Global Change, an increasing number of African scientists is involved in palaeoenvironmental and palaeoclimatic research, both theoretical and applied. PoA systematically supports established as well as junior African scientists in the field of sustainable cooperation and academic capacity building. This book will be of interest to all concerned with or interested in up-to-date research on Neogene to Quaternary low latitudes ecosystem changes and their respective interpretation in the framework of natural climate and vegetation change evidenced by a variety of methods that allow to read and learn from the past by following the motto, "The geologic foretime as the key to the present, and possibly to the future." Palynologists, Geologists, Geographers, Archaeologists, and Geomorphologists will find this edition equally useful for their work.
