Book excerpt: Neil and the Cruise Ship Adventure is a story about a young boy who during a cruise ship vacation saves his sister, friends and himself from being trapped by using his talker. Neil's Life and Adventures is a book series that teaches kindness and empathy while giving the young reader the opportunity to enjoy an adventure story with lots of colorful illustrations and easy-to-read text. Neil loves to swim, read, paint, climb trees and play with his friends. He goes to mainstream primary school where he has his closest friends. Neil is non-verbal and uses a talker to communicate. Growing up Neil's biggest wish was to let others know his thoughts and his dreams. He had so many things that he wanted to share, but he just couldn't. He didn't have a way to express his thoughts. One day, his parents got Neil a talker. Neil was very excited that he would be able to express his thoughts and share his ideas with his family and friends. Since this is like learning a new language for Neil, his parents and sister helped him by modeling. Modeling means using the talker to say things while also using your voice. Modeling is fun! Neil's sister models while they play and read books together. Neil's mum models every day when she helps Neil get ready for school and in the evening when telling Neil a bedtime story. Neil's father models while going to the park with him on weekends. Soon everyone around Neil was modeling and helping him learn this new language. Neil picked up on the new language over time and started commenting when people around him were talking. Neil is very grateful for being able to say what he wants, when he wants and how he wants to say it. He has so many thoughts and ideas he wants to share.

Book Cruise Ships The Small Scale Fleet

Download or read book Cruise Ships The Small Scale Fleet written by Peter C Smith and published by Pen and Sword. This book was released on 2014-03-31 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peter C. Smith presents us here with the second release in his visually splendid Cruise Ships series. Whilst his first book concerned itself with the large-scale ships currently cruising through our seas (those weighing 40,000 GT and more) this volume focusses on the other end of the market; the ships that weigh in at less than 40,000 GT, but which are often much more stylish and aesthetically pleasing than their larger-scale counterparts. The elegant interiors and luxurious features on display in today's vast fleet of cruise liners remain unrecorded in all but holiday brochures. This book carries on in the tradition of Peter's last release, giving a complete overview of the best of these ships, the cream of the crop, so to speak.??Each colour profile includes external and interior views of the featured ship. Details of the design, building and service history of each vessel are provided with vital statistics of the ship and its facilities.??This is a book of reference for maritime enthusiasts, would-be holiday cruisers and those who have been passengers. It serves as an impressive visual tribute to the best of the smaller scale fleet currently cruising globally.??As seen in the Bedford Times & Citizen.

Book Racing to a Cure

  • Author : Neil Ruzic
  • Publisher : University of Illinois Press
  • Release : 2024-04-22
  • ISBN : 0252056256
  • Pages : 268 pages

Download or read book Racing to a Cure written by Neil Ruzic and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2024-04-22 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Racing to a Cure is not a cancer memoir. It is a cancer cure memoir. In 1998 Neil Ruzic was diagnosed with mantle-cell lymphoma, the deadliest cancer of the lymph system, whose spread is reaching epidemic levels in the U.S. and Europe. Instead of following recommended courses of chemotherapy and radiation, he took control of his treatment by investigating cures being developed in the nation's cancer-research laboratories. Although chemotherapy harms the immune system and is increasingly demonstrated to be an ineffective long-term cure for the vast majority of cancers, it remains the standard treatment for most cancer patients. Ruzic, a former scientific magazine publisher and originator of a science center, refused to accept this status quo, and instead plunged into the world of cutting-edge treatments, exploring the frontiers of cancer science with revolutionary results. Ruzic went on the offensive: visiting scores of laboratories, gathering information, talking to researchers, and effectively becoming his own patient-care advocate. This book presents his findings. A scathing critique of the chemotherapy culture as well as unscientific "alternative" therapies, the book endorses state-of-the-art molecularly based technologies, making it an illuminating and necessary read for anyone interested in cancer research, especially patients and their families and physicians. Neil Ruzic was expected to die within two years of his initial diagnosis. Five years later he has been declared cancer-free and considers himself cured.

Book DATELINE WORLD 20 Dispatches from the Earth One from Hell

This book was released on 2023-09-26 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A favorite shelf in my bookcase leads with By-Line: Ernest Hemingway, a compendium of journalism the great novelist wrote to support himself as he worked on his fiction. Right next to it is Ernie’s War, dispatches by Ernie Pyle, the most famous of World War II correspondents. Milton Nieuwsma’s fine volume joins this shelf of honor.” —From the foreword by Tom Stites, two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning editor/journalist “Compassion and humility radiate from Milt’s pen. I followed him to Auschwitz twenty-five years after he wrote his evocative account of the 50th anniversary of the camp’s liberation. His exhortation to listen to the stories of the survivors is a sample of his great writing: ‘To turn away is to kill them a second time. But to listen is to confront the monster that lurks in the human soul.’ A must read.” —Malcolm Brabant, correspondent, PBS NewsHour; author, The Daughter of Auschwitz Before he turned to writing for public television, Milton Nieuwsma traveled the world covering stories for the Chicago Tribune and other major newspapers. This book is a compendium of 21 of his best pieces—20 from the earth and one from hell. He takes you to the Arctic and the Antarctic; to the Amazon and the Nile; to Auschwitz, the scene of humanity’s greatest crime, and to a rural Mississippi courtroom where the acquittal of Emmett Till’s killers sparked the civil rights movement. “Milt Nieuwsma is a master of his craft,” writes Tom Stites. “Its value still leaps out of the page at the reader.”
