Book Negotiation in the New Strategic Environment

Download or read book Negotiation in the New Strategic Environment written by David M. Tressler and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In stability, security, transition, and reconstruction (SSTR) operations like the U.S. mission in Iraq, negotiation is a common activity. The success or failure of the thousands of negotiations taking place daily between U.S. military officers and local civilian and military leaders in Iraq affects tactical and operational results and the U.S. military's ability to achieve American strategic objectives. By training its leaders, especially junior ones, to negotiate effectively, the U.S. military will be better prepared to succeed in the increasingly complex operations it is conducting--in Iraq as well as the ones it will face in the new strategic environment of the 21st century. This monograph analyzes the U.S. Army's current predeployment negotiation training and compares it with the negotiating experience of U.S. Army and Marine Corps officers deployed to Iraq. The author argues that successfully adapting to the nature of the contemporary operating environment requires changes that include increased training in negotiation. Based on interviews with U.S. officers, the author identifies three key elements of negotiation in SSTR operations and offers recommendations for U.S. soldiers to consider when negotiating with local Iraqi leaders; for U.S. military trainers to consider when reviewing their predeployment negotiation training curriculum; and for the Army and Marine Corps training and doctrine commands to consider when planning and structuring predeployment training.

Book Negotiation in the New Strategic Environment Lessons from Iraq

Download or read book Negotiation in the New Strategic Environment Lessons from Iraq written by Strategic Studies Institute and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-06-21 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: U.S. soldiers in Iraq-from junior to senior leaders- conduct thousands of negotiations with Iraqi leaders while pursuing tactical and operational objectives that affect the strategic import of the U.S. mission in that country. As long as U.S. troops operate under conditions like the ones they currently face while at the same time conducting a counterinsurgency and stability, security, transition, and reconstruction (SSTR) operation in Iraq, negotiation will be a common activity and an important part of achieving mission objectives. Lessons from experience negotiating in Iraq can be helpful in future operations. This monograph argues that the negotiations conducted in Iraq have tactical importance, operational significance, and strategic implications because of the daily role they play in the missions U.S. soldiers conduct while attempting to secure neighborhoods, strengthen political institutions, acquire information and intelligence, and gain cooperation.

Book Negotiating Climate Change in Crisis

Download or read book Negotiating Climate Change in Crisis written by Steffen Böhm and published by Open Book Publishers. This book was released on 2021-09-28 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate change negotiations have failed the world. Despite more than thirty years of high-level, global talks on climate change, we are still seeing carbon emissions rise dramatically. This edited volume, comprising leading and emerging scholars and climate activists from around the world, takes a critical look at what has gone wrong and what is to be done to create more decisive action. Composed of twenty-eight essays—a combination of new and republished texts—the anthology is organised around seven main themes: paradigms; what counts?; extraction; dispatches from a climate change frontline country; governance; finance; and action(s). Through this multifaceted approach, the contributors ask pressing questions about how we conceptualise and respond to the climate crisis, providing both ‘big picture’ perspectives and more focussed case studies. This unique and extensive collection will be of great value to environmental and social scientists alike, as well as to the general reader interested in understanding current views on the climate crisis.

Book Strategic Negotiations for Sustainable Value

Download or read book Strategic Negotiations for Sustainable Value written by Stefanos Mouzas and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-07-05 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strategic Negotiations for Sustainable Value is a guide to learning how to conclude lasting business deals that are environmentally, socially and economically sustainable in an international business context. Managers today need to negotiate with multiple stakeholders, such as suppliers, customers, agencies, governments and authorities, to be able to access the resources that they need. Creating and capturing sustainable value is not a fixed entity but rather the outcome of long and time-consuming negotiations that affect further negotiations. Providing illustrative international case studies throughout each chapter, this book explores: the strategic challenges that managers face in their markets today; the practical, analytical tools that needed to create and capture value that is sustainable; the behavioral biases and cognitive errors in strategic negotiations; the various ways by which negotiators manifest their business agreements in contracts; the managerial implications of strategic negotiations. The book is ideal for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students in negotiation, business administration, management, or related courses such as business marketing, and customer or key account management. It is equally valuable to industry professionals, managers involved in negotiating with customers, suppliers or partners and those pursuing professional qualifications or accreditation in marketing, sales or management.

Book Climate Change Negotiations

Download or read book Climate Change Negotiations written by Gunnar Sjöstedt and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-04-12 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the Kyoto Protocol limps along without the participation of the US and Australia, on-going climate negotiations are plagued by competing national and business interests that are creating stumbling blocks to success. Climate Change Negotiations: A Guide to Resolving Disputes and Facilitating Multilateral Cooperation asks how these persistent obstacles can be down-scaled, approaching them from five professional perspectives: a top policy-maker, a senior negotiator, a leading scientist, an international lawyer, and a sociologist who is observing the process. The authors identify the major problems, including great power strategies (the EU, the US and Russia), leadership, the role of NGOs, capacity and knowledge-building, airline industry emissions, insurance and risk transfer instruments, problems of cost benefit analysis, the IPCC in the post-Kyoto situation, and verification and institutional design. A new key concept is introduced: strategic facilitation. 'Strategic facilitation' has a long time frame, a forward-looking orientation and aims to support the overall negotiation process rather than individual actors. This book is aimed at academics, university students and practitioners who are directly or indirectly engaged in the international climate negotiation as policy makers, diplomats or experts.
